Once a shadow of the Russian Federation, free at last once again (it feels like 1991 all over again) This board consists of Ukrainians, Belarussians, Latvians, Kazakhs, and Lithuanians.
With Russia's departure, it is up to the rest of the Eastern Euro's to move on and carry a proud tradition of excellence in hockey, well maybe not lately but soon enough.
There are some new idea's that will be coming out soon on this board, like an All-Eastern European hockey All-Star team. Could this team actually contend with the elite in the world? You'll just have to wait and see...
We're known as the Eastern Euro's, but who are we really? and is there anyone even out there, here on HF?? Calling all fans from Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania and others!

Don't forget the ones from outside the region but still have an interest. Ex-Soviet hockey is my special interest.
Hi, I'm from Latvia!
If we speak about Latvians in the NHL, we have one of the best offencive def in Ozolinsh; stabil 2 line stay-at-home def in Skrastinsh (of Avalanche) - currently a Iron Man of NHL; old-but-still-young goalie in Irbe; and good-but-not-AllStar center in Zholtok (last year with Wild and Predators).
Plus some younger players in A.Saviels (AHL, property of Avalanche) and K.Redlihs (AHL, property of Devils) - both def; and last year draft pick M.Karsums (Bruins) - skilled winger.

Hey, welcome to the Eastern Europe board!
That is true, Latvia have a nice blend of offense and defence playing in the big leagues...
Elektrenai 10-31-2004, 10:10 PM I'm a fan of Lithuanian hockey. I've been following the national team's progress in the IIHF tournaments. In recent years, the senior team has been dominating division II, but they always fall flat on their face in division I. If they can finish better than last place in 2005 in div I, I'll be happy.
wingz198 11-24-2004, 08:48 PM There aren't that many people visiting this part of the site, huh? I'm from Ukraine, but I haven't really followed hockey teams from here since I now live in the states. I follow players from Ukraine that play in the NHL, though.

True, these results below speaks of the disparity between Div I and Div II. These are Lithuania's results in the past 4 years:
2001:
Finished last in DivI. Record of 0 Wins, 5 Losses, 0 Ties. Goal differencial: -26, relegated to DivII
2002:
Finished 1st in DivII. Record of 5 Wins, 0 Losses, 0 Ties. Goal differencial: +65, promoted to DivI
2003:
Finished last in DivI. Record of 0 Wins, 4 Losses, 1 Tie. Goal differencial: -23, relegated to DivII
2004:
Finished 1st in DivII. Record of 5 Wins, 0 Losses, 0 Ties. Goal differencial: +63, Promoted to DivI
RorschachWJK 01-15-2005, 01:19 PM Well, my wife is Latvian so I'll always cheer for Latvia...unless they play against Finland, of course :)

A word of friendly advice. Learn the cyrillic alphabet. I did and the rewards were enormous. Suddenly I could browse my way through all the sites without much problem. I don't understand news and such but I can find my way to statistics and I do get a feel for what news items are interesting enough to use Altavista's babelfish.

Same here..
Vikke 03-17-2005, 12:23 PM Allright guys.
I need some quick help over here. :)
Can you give me a list of the top prospects from eastern Europe?
Top 10 will do, top 25 would be awesome.
Thanks!

CBItaliaLietuva 03-24-2005, 02:25 PM Hello everyone. I am an american, but am of Italian, French, Lithuanian, English, and Czech Descent. Yeah, I'm a mut. But anyway, I have great pride for Italy, and a growing pride of Lithuania. I dont know much about Lithuanian hockey, but I would follow them if they were to make a tournament that we Americans would get televised.
Ive also heard that many good Lithuanians end up on the Russian team anyway. Is this true?
