Toronto forward Phil Kessel's sizzling start has earned him October's highest honor.
Kessel on Tuesday was named October's Player of the Month in the NHL with Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen coming in second and Edmonton goalie Nikolai Khabibulin landing in third place.
Kessel finished October leading the League with 10 goals and 18 points in 11 games. He has been held off the score sheet only twice and has five multiple-point games, including two 3-point games and a season-high 4-point game on Oct. 8 against Ottawa, when he also had a hat trick.

Felstead 11-01-2011, 10:12 AM Great to see, love it. Lets go for Movember player of the month now.
Captain Clutch 13 11-01-2011, 10:15 AM Nice job Kessel! Grabovski can have November :sarcasm:
mooseOAK* 11-01-2011, 10:21 AM Probably the first Leaf to win this award.
KingBuzzo 11-01-2011, 10:27 AM That's awesome!

Shanty 11-01-2011, 10:31 AM Is anyone really surprised? Was there honestly any other choice?
Volcanologist 11-01-2011, 10:33 AM I'm sure he'll now go on a 40 game pointless streak.
because, you know, that's what he "always" does.
bobbyflex 11-01-2011, 10:34 AM was there any other choice?
wandering goat 11-01-2011, 10:44 AM Awesome for Kessel. I hope he can keep producing (if not at this crazy pace) and get to 40+ goals while being a huge part of this team's success.
Porn* 11-01-2011, 10:49 AM sweet, when was the last time a leaf has such high honor?
HockeyCrazed101 11-01-2011, 10:51 AM I'm really proud of him. He's really showing that he can bring more dimension to his game than just offense and the best part about it is that improving other areas of his game has actually helped his offense out a lot. Hopefully this is something consistent with him throughout the season. He's been working hard, being rewarded on the ice and it's nice to see him being recognized for it off the ice. Atta boy Kessel!
therealkoho 11-01-2011, 10:56 AM Matters not, he'll still get picked last because nobody likes a heartless dressing room problem who just so happens to play for the most despised coach in the NHL's little fiefdom
That about cover it?
Atta boy Thrill, keep it going buddy:clap:
ACC1224 11-01-2011, 10:58 AM I'm sure he's celebrating at The Mandarian Buffet.

Kibago 11-01-2011, 11:13 AM He's the easy choice, honestly. great to see.
He had a great month so the recognition is well deserved.
bobbyflex 11-01-2011, 11:15 AM I'm sure he's celebrating at The Mandarian Buffet.
Force = Mass X Acceleration

I didn't think he had it in him to take his game to the next level and really commit to his all around game, but he is certainly proving me wrong this season.
Atta boy, Phil.

Way to go Phil! 10 more goals in November!
Plus Potvin was Goalie. Kessel has probably been the first Forward as a Leaf to win it as far as I can remember.
Totally deserving, Hole he doesn't go into slumps.
edwardslane 11-01-2011, 04:04 PM great to see!
I sure hope they do continue to play great in november.. Overall it's a month with quite a few games we should win.. we play some tough games but we've also got
ottawa, carolina, jersey, columbus, florida, pheonix as teams they should beat..
Tougher opponents = washington, boston x2, anaheim, nashville, dallas, tampa, St louis.
that's 14 games in 30 days.. Fairly busy schedule! i hope we can finish this month 8-5-1~
even that would cement our place further as a playoffteam.
officialmark7 11-01-2011, 05:16 PM Fire Wilson!

SteveV 11-01-2011, 05:42 PM Interesting comment from Wilson today:
"He is doing things that I haven’t seen him do before like play hard in our zone, get pucks out, get hit hard on the forcheck so I guess I should say I expect him to play the same way in November,”
It's so true, he is doing things he has never done as a Leaf, he's simply blowing me away with how he is actually initiating contact, digging for pucks, it's a new Kessel paradigm. It is these "new" things that have me convinced Kessel might have a slump here and there, but we will never see the kind of inconsistency of the past, wherein he sometimes was actually a liability on the ice.

Maturing.. only just 24. Wild skill set. Somehow it's surprising many here.
