The Slovakian Hockey Thread12# Peter Bondra 09-19-2004, 08:38 AM Post and ask anything in here about SVK hockey. PhoenixBuffalo 09-19-2004, 11:02 PM Can anyone tell me what teams Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzus, Branko Radivojevic and Radoslav Suchy will be playing for in Europe? I had heard they were playing for four different teams, but cannot find anything to confirm it. Also if there is a website that may have information as well that would be great. Thanks Rogalo 09-20-2004, 05:19 AM Can anyone tell me what teams Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzus, Branko Radivojevic and Radoslav Suchy will be playing for in Europe? I had heard they were playing for four different teams, but cannot find anything to confirm it. Also if there is a website that may have information as well that would be great. Thanks Branko Radivojevič plays in the Czech extraliga for Vsetin. The rest are most probably in the Slovak league. PeterBondra should know...:) Ego 09-20-2004, 09:28 AM Nagy will play for Kosice in Slovakia. Handzus is still injured, but he plans to play for Zvolen. Suchy only said that he will play in Poprad when staying in Slovakia. Only God knows about his plans. 12# Peter Bondra 09-20-2004, 11:03 AM Thats about it :). Suchy hasnt decided yet. PhoenixBuffalo 09-20-2004, 07:47 PM Thanks for the help.. Do these teams have a website at all? 12# Peter Bondra 09-21-2004, 11:24 AM I think there are but its VERY hard to find them. I cant even find them though. Rogalo 09-21-2004, 11:44 AM Thanks for the help.. Do these teams have a website at all? Of course. We are all in the 21 century, aren´t we? :dunno: Vsetin has www.hc-vsetin.cz If you will be just DIEING to understand something, feel free to write it here. Don´t want the whole web though :lol 12# Peter Bondra 09-21-2004, 11:55 AM My answer was meant for the Slovak League teams. Rogalo 09-21-2004, 12:06 PM My answer was meant for the Slovak League teams. My answer was for wilson26fan 12# Peter Bondra 09-21-2004, 12:47 PM Ok. Just meaning you answered for the CZE League and I for the SVK League. PhoenixBuffalo 09-21-2004, 08:21 PM Thanks Rogalo.. If I find anything about Branko I need translated, I will be sure to ask you :hockey: Please let me know if you find the Slovak sites Fredrik 09-22-2004, 09:50 AM I remember that during the 80's it was said in Sweden that Jihlava and Trencin were army teams. Was this true then and if so is it still true? 12# Peter Bondra 09-22-2004, 10:09 AM It was true back in the 80's but I dont think they are the army clubs now. But they still have the same names: Dukla Trencin and I think Jihlava is still Dukla Jihlava. Rogalo 09-22-2004, 11:02 AM I remember that during the 80's it was said in Sweden that Jihlava and Trencin were army teams. Was this true then and if so is it still true? It was true. That is why they were so good. Everyone had to go through military service. Hockey players also. And guess where the best players went when they had to serve their military time... They played for the Duklas. You can imagine how much these teams were loved ;) Fredrik 09-22-2004, 12:41 PM It was true. That is why they were so good. Everyone had to go through military service. Hockey players also. And guess where the best players went when they had to serve their military time... They played for the Duklas. You can imagine how much these teams were loved ;) I can imagine. ;) But what did the players think? Were the coaches just as strict as Tichonov? Because if the coaches were good it must have been nice to do military service as a hockey player... 12# Peter Bondra 09-22-2004, 12:49 PM They were usually nice. Some players even were happy to go to military as those teams were usually great in those times. Some players were even eager to get there :). Rogalo 09-22-2004, 01:17 PM it must have been nice to do military service as a hockey player... I´ll tell you a pretty interesting story about that. I doubt you heard it :) Hašek was a star goalkeeper before he came to the NHL but that did not matter. He had to do his military service as well. He became a goaltender of Dukla Jihlava but had a cotract with Pardubice (a real hockey.town. Hejduk is from there for example). a contract there logically meant he was going back there after the season. But Pardubice were playing dreadful hockey that season and where barely avoiding relegation. And with just a couple of games to go, Pardubice were playing in Jihlava. Hašek and other players, who had contracts in Pardubice, logically did not want their club relegated, so they told their coach they were not playing. The coach first agreed but the next day told all the Pardubice, that they just must play. It was an order from the army management. But Hašek had no intention of playing so after a first shot at him, he said he was he was injured and left the ice. The coaches (Augusta - ex-coach of Czech national team + Holik - father of Bobby Holik) were pissed but understood and were not going to do anything about it. BUT. Between the periods, Augusta started critisising the team, but nothing harsh. Hašek though took it personally and started screaming "he is not gonna ruin his career by playing against his own team and they can all go **** themselves" and he flung the Dukla jersey in the trashcan! :yo: That really pissed off the coaches, they kicked him out of the team and Hašek had to actually join an army base with the rest of the normal czech folk serving military time. But everybody knew who he was and nobody made him troubles. He played football and read most of the time  But you have to realize that this was the late 1980s. The times were much looser than in the 50s or 70s. Just so you have an idea - some members of the world champion team was actually locked down in the 50s as being spyes of the west :shakehead . What a **********.e.d up regime that was... Well, hope you liked the story :) 12# Peter Bondra 09-22-2004, 01:49 PM But Dukla Trencin still rocks. Army or no army club. :) Rogalo 09-22-2004, 01:59 PM But Dukla Trencin still rocks. Army or no army club. :) Well, I mean I dont particularly LOVE these teams - their dominance was artificial and unfair to the rest of the league - BUT I´m happy they survived. It would have been sad to see these traditional go bancrupt like ex-army or police football clubs... Like Dukla Prague football team for example :shakehead 12# Peter Bondra 09-22-2004, 02:16 PM Police clubs have in general gone bankrupt in a lot of cases. Fredrik 09-22-2004, 03:20 PM Well, hope you liked the story :) I did. Which is the most popular Slovak team? Slovan Bratislava? Kosice? 12# Peter Bondra 09-23-2004, 12:09 PM Dukla Trencin IMO. But Kosice are popular too. Rogalo 09-23-2004, 12:38 PM Dukla Trencin IMO. But Kosice are popular too. I doubt Slovan is popular nationwide, more likely the other way around...Or am I wrong? 12# Peter Bondra 09-23-2004, 12:54 PM You are right. Slovan is popular only in Bratislava. Other parts of Slovakia rather hate the team cause they are the richest. Golbez 09-24-2004, 08:27 AM You are right. Slovan is popular only in Bratislava. Other parts of Slovakia rather hate the team cause they are the richest. People who like Slovan eat puppies and kick baby kittens around like soccer balls. Now, Hk36!! Rogalo 09-24-2004, 09:56 AM People who like Slovan eat puppies and kick baby kittens around like soccer balls. Now, Hk36!! :) Really nice of you to mention soccer and Slovan in the same sentence. Bratislava supporters must REALLY love you right now :lol Slavia forever :jump: 12# Peter Bondra 09-24-2004, 11:37 AM My favorite team is Trencin and most unfavorite is Slovan (and I live in Bratislava)! We shouldnt mention soccer here. OT: I dislike every Bratislava team. My favorite soccer team was 1.FC Kosice (before they broke up) :shakehead nagamonster 09-24-2004, 03:13 PM Hi im new here,, And I was wondering if any of you know of websites for the hockey teams these guys will be playing for in SK? ladislav nagy michal handzus radsolav suchy I seen the website someone posted on branko's hockey team , just wondering if the teams these 3 play on had websites,, I havent been able to find any thanks Golbez 09-24-2004, 11:05 PM Hi im new here,, And I was wondering if any of you know of websites for the hockey teams these guys will be playing for in SK? ladislav nagy michal handzus radsolav suchy I seen the website someone posted on branko's hockey team , just wondering if the teams these 3 play on had websites,, I havent been able to find any thanks http://www.hckosice.sk/ That's where Laco Nagy will be playing shortly PhoenixBuffalo 09-24-2004, 11:12 PM Speaking of Ladislav Nagy, I heard he got married and had a baby on the way? Anyone hear anything about this? Any truth to it? psycho_dad 09-25-2004, 07:24 AM Thanks for Martin Bartek, Slovakia! 4 games, 3 goals, 2 assists. This guy has a Kovalchuk class wrister! He is going to be a big part of the success of my favourite team Rauman lukko this season. He still seems a bit lost and trying to getting used to the new league, but one can not fail with such a shot. He aint much of a defensive player (like some of you told me when I asked about him) but he uses his scoring chances with very high percentage. nagamonster 09-25-2004, 12:20 PM Thank you, for the ladi website. 12# Peter Bondra 09-25-2004, 01:31 PM Speaking of Ladislav Nagy, I heard he got married and had a baby on the way? Anyone hear anything about this? Any truth to it? I didnt hear anything about it. Rogalo 09-28-2004, 06:59 AM My favorite team is Trencin and most unfavorite is Slovan (and I live in Bratislava)! You know what I dont understand? How Trenčín survived economically. I mean - Dukla Jihlava had huge problems - gor relegated and only this season got back... How come this did not happen to Trenčín? OT:My favorite soccer team was 1.FC Kosice (before they broke up) :shakehead God bless the Rezeš bros. :shakehead and God bless the Varga bros. ;) 12# Peter Bondra 09-28-2004, 11:16 AM I dont know why Trencin didnt get relegated but they won the title in 93 = cash. And then came Palffy and Stumpel there so they had money. Too bad Kosice broke up. They were the best team in Slovak history. Imagine Sparta breaking up in 3 years time. Rogalo 09-29-2004, 12:30 PM I dont know why Trencin didnt get relegated I did not mean they automatically got relegated. Jihlava just had a hard time fighting for survival when everything was taken cae of for them in the past. At least that is my opinion Imagine Sparta breaking up in 3 years time. Oh I can imagine that. I am a Slavia fan :yo:  I am kidding...that would be terrible. 12# Peter Bondra 09-29-2004, 02:15 PM I did not mean they automatically got relegated. Jihlava just had a hard time fighting for survival when everything was taken cae of for them in the past. At least that is my opinion I posted it wrongly. I knew what you meant. Oh I can imagine that. I am a Slavia fan :yo:  I am kidding...that would be terrible. Im a Sparta fan and a Pardubice fan. :yo: matys 10-06-2004, 05:26 AM You know what I dont understand? How Trenčín survived economically. I mean - Dukla Jihlava had huge problems - gor relegated and only this season got back... How come this did not happen to Trenčín? Because Trencin had a support of city, which paid costs related to arena. And now Svehla, Demitra, Gaborik own shares in the club. They brought a lot of money on slovak circumstances. nagamonster 10-07-2004, 03:39 PM I heard that Branko hurt his knee, and will be out at least a month, can anyone find out for sure? thanks matys 10-08-2004, 03:05 AM I heard that Branko hurt his knee, and will be out at least a month, can anyone find out for sure? thanks Yes, it´s truth. He will be out about a month. Though it´s not so serious. Knee injury can forced out of rink about a half year. Gaborik10 10-09-2004, 06:50 PM ---Because Trencin had a support of city, which paid costs related to arena. And now Svehla, Demitra, Gaborik own shares in the club. Im not sure if Gaborik owns a share but as you know, he is building a stadium in Trencin. Demitra and Svehla 100% own a share of the club. nagamonster 10-10-2004, 09:30 PM Thanks for the news on branko. Now I heard ladislav nagy went down with a right leg injury, is there any truth to it? He is in contact with Zvolen, maybe he will play for them when he´ll be OK. Ladislav Nagy has a right leg injury and he has problems with right groin. He will be out about 2 weeks. Ego 10-11-2004, 04:11 PM www.hkpoprad.sk website of the HK Poprad team where Rado Suchy plays nagamonster 10-11-2004, 04:14 PM Thanks again for your help, I have fan clubs for these guys, and now its hard to keep up, the stuff I find is in Slovak , so I cant read it. thanks for helping me. borro 10-11-2004, 10:22 PM Does anyone have an update on Peter Bondra and if/when he will be playing again? Ego 10-12-2004, 05:59 AM Bondra said he will start playing in January. If there will be NHL he will play there, if not he will play for Poprad. He is a veteran, earned enough money, so he wants to spend some time with his family. nagamonster 10-13-2004, 06:52 PM I heard that Miso signed with team Zvolen today any truth to it, and is there a website out there? thanks I need to see some :hockey: :hockey: :hockey: Golbez 10-13-2004, 08:38 PM I heard that Miso signed with team Zvolen today any truth to it, and is there a website out there? thanks I need to see some :hockey: :hockey: :hockey: http://hokej.point.sk/spravy/?clanok=31693 it's true, it's true For some unknown reason, HKm Zvolen does not have any official website :dunno: leafaholix* 10-16-2004, 04:00 AM Anyone know when the next tournament with the national team takes place? 12# Peter Bondra 10-16-2004, 11:26 AM I heard a tournament which should be in November where we should play. leafaholix* 10-16-2004, 01:09 PM I heard a tournament which should be in November where we should play. What are the chances of Roman Kukumberg playing with the national team this year? 12# Peter Bondra 10-17-2004, 10:00 AM I WOULD take him if I were the coach but I doubt he will be taken looking at the number of NHL players in Europe this year. This year is special cause its the lockout. IF there wasnt a lockout, he is in for sure, but with the NHL players around, I dont know if he will make it. Ego 10-18-2004, 08:34 AM I think Kukumberg will be in the team. Coach Hossa said he won`t only take NHL guys. I hope Zalesak will also be in the team. leafaholix* 10-19-2004, 03:11 AM Either of you seen much of him before he made the move to Russia? Can you describe his style, strengths, weaknesses, etc... ? 12# Peter Bondra 10-19-2004, 03:02 PM Style: Dan Hinote (less agressive, more skill) Strenghts: Determination, Work Ethic, Team Work, Board play, Good dekes, shooting Weaknesses: Can be streaky, maybe small, can get pushed around. Brankogurl 10-26-2004, 12:19 PM It's too bad that Team Slovakia didn't very well during the World Cup. I can't believe they lost a lot of their main players so early in the series. But maybe whenever the World Cup comes around again, they will have the players and maybe they will win the Gold, just like they did at the 2002 World Championship. :handclap: bobbyboucher24 10-26-2004, 09:57 PM I am a big fan of Slovakia, but goaltending is still very weak and the defense isn't much better. The forwards are very good, but they even had trouble scoring. Not a good effort.
