Post and ask anything in here about SVK hockey.

Can anyone tell me what teams Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzus, Branko Radivojevic and Radoslav Suchy will be playing for in Europe? I had heard they were playing for four different teams, but cannot find anything to confirm it. Also if there is a website that may have information as well that would be great.

Branko Radivojevič plays in the Czech extraliga for Vsetin. The rest are most probably in the Slovak league. PeterBondra should know...:)

Nagy will play for Kosice in Slovakia. Handzus is still injured, but he plans to play for Zvolen. Suchy only said that he will play in Poprad when staying in Slovakia. Only God knows about his plans.

Thats about it :). Suchy hasnt decided yet.

I remember that during the 80's it was said in Sweden that Jihlava and Trencin were army teams.

It was true back in the 80's but I dont think they are the army clubs now. But they still have the same names: Dukla Trencin and I think Jihlava is still Dukla Jihlava.

It was true. That is why they were so good. Everyone had to go through military service. Hockey players also. And guess where the best players went when they had to serve their military time... They played for the Duklas. You can imagine how much these teams were loved ;)

But what did the players think? Were the coaches just as strict as Tichonov? Because if the coaches were good it must have been nice to do military service as a hockey player...

They were usually nice. Some players even were happy to go to military as those teams were usually great in those times. Some players were even eager to get there :).

I´ll tell you a pretty interesting story about that. I doubt you heard it :)

Hašek was a star goalkeeper before he came to the NHL but that did not matter. He had to do his military service as well. He became a goaltender of Dukla Jihlava but had a cotract with Pardubice (a real hockey.town. Hejduk is from there for example).
a contract there logically meant he was going back there after the season. But Pardubice were playing dreadful hockey that season and where barely avoiding relegation. And with just a couple of games to go, Pardubice were playing in Jihlava. Hašek and other players, who had contracts in Pardubice, logically did not want their club relegated, so they told their coach they were not playing. The coach first agreed but the next day told all the Pardubice, that they just must play. It was an order from the army management.

But Hašek had no intention of playing so after a first shot at him, he said he was he was injured and left the ice. The coaches (Augusta - ex-coach of Czech national team + Holik - father of Bobby Holik) were pissed but understood and were not going to do anything about it. BUT. Between the periods, Augusta started critisising the team, but nothing harsh. Hašek though took it personally and started screaming "he is not gonna ruin his career by playing against his own team and they can all go **** themselves" and he flung the Dukla jersey in the trashcan! :yo:

That really pissed off the coaches, they kicked him out of the team and Hašek had to actually join an army base with the rest of the normal czech folk serving military time. But everybody knew who he was and nobody made him troubles. He played football and read most of the time :banana:

But you have to realize that this was the late 1980s. The times were much looser than in the 50s or 70s. Just so you have an idea - some members of the world champion team was actually locked down in the 50s as being spyes of the west :shakehead . What a **********.e.d up regime that was... Well, hope you liked the story :)

Well, I mean I dont particularly LOVE these teams - their dominance was artificial and unfair to the rest of the league - BUT I´m happy they survived. It would have been sad to see these traditional go bancrupt like ex-army or police football clubs... Like Dukla Prague football team for example :shakehead

Police clubs have in general gone bankrupt in a lot of cases.

You are right. Slovan is popular only in Bratislava. Other parts of Slovakia rather hate the team cause they are the richest.

4 games, 3 goals, 2 assists. This guy has a Kovalchuk class wrister!

He is going to be a big part of the success of my favourite team Rauman lukko this season. He still seems a bit lost and trying to getting used to the new league, but one can not fail with such a shot. He aint much of a defensive player (like some of you told me when I asked about him) but he uses his scoring chances with very high percentage.

You know what I dont understand? How Trenčín survived economically. I mean - Dukla Jihlava had huge problems - gor relegated and only this season got back... How come this did not happen to Trenčín?

I dont know why Trencin didnt get relegated but they won the title in 93 = cash. And then came Palffy and Stumpel there so they had money.

Too bad Kosice broke up. They were the best team in Slovak history. Imagine Sparta breaking up in 3 years time.

I did not mean they automatically got relegated. Jihlava just had a hard time fighting for survival when everything was taken cae of for them in the past. At least that is my opinion

Yes, it´s truth. He will be out about a month. Though it´s not so serious. Knee injury can forced out of rink about a half year.

It is true. Im not sure if Gaborik owns a share but as you know, he is building a stadium in Trencin. Demitra and Svehla 100% own a share of the club.

Michal Handzus is recovering after right arm injury before World Cup. He is in contact with Zvolen, maybe he will play for them when he´ll be OK.
Ladislav Nagy has a right leg injury and he has problems with right groin. He will be out about 2 weeks.

Does anyone have an update on Peter Bondra and if/when he will be playing again?

Bondra said he will start playing in January. If there will be NHL he will play there, if not he will play for Poprad. He is a veteran, earned enough money, so he wants to spend some time with his family.

What are the chances of Roman Kukumberg playing with the national team this year?

I WOULD take him if I were the coach but I doubt he will be taken looking at the number of NHL players in Europe this year. This year is special cause its the lockout. IF there wasnt a lockout, he is in for sure, but with the NHL players around, I dont know if he will make it.

I think Kukumberg will be in the team. Coach Hossa said he won`t only take NHL guys. I hope Zalesak will also be in the team.

Either of you seen much of him before he made the move to Russia?

Style: Dan Hinote (less agressive, more skill)
Strenghts: Determination, Work Ethic, Team Work, Board play, Good dekes, shooting
Weaknesses: Can be streaky, maybe small, can get pushed around.

I think it's been reduced to an 8-game loan, but he's basically doing a favour for his hometown team for a little while.

It's too bad that Team Slovakia didn't very well during the World Cup. I can't believe they lost a lot of their main players so early in the series. But maybe whenever the World Cup comes around again, they will have the players and maybe they will win the Gold, just like they did at the 2002 World Championship. :handclap:

I am a big fan of Slovakia, but goaltending is still very weak and the defense isn't much better. The forwards are very good, but they even had trouble scoring. Not a good effort.

Any word on Suchy's return? I saw an article earlier this month on hokej.sk (IIRC) that said he'd injured his knee shortly before the tournament break, and he hasn't played since.

Well, he is still injured.

I kind of gathered that since he still didn't play today. :rolleyes:

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT they sell game tapes of the SVK League. Like, there is a 0,0001% chance they sell those kind of tapes here.
