All jokes aside, I know it's early on in the Season but the Sabres need to Win this Game and in Regulation. The Leafs are playing some good Puck right now but I feel a big Game from the Boys in Blue and Gold tonight.
Vizze26 12-16-2011, 05:33 AM tough game it'll be
but we will win though! 5-3 i think
HiddenInLight 12-16-2011, 05:41 AM Sabres 4-2 4th is an empty netter. TC gets injured in the 1st when Regehr Tunnel O Deaths him.
5 Minute Major 12-16-2011, 06:17 AM Sabres 4-2 4th is an empty netter. TC gets injured in the 1st when Regehr Tunnel O Deaths him.
And the sheer force of the hit vibrates the FNC and all the Sabres on the ice at the time go down with lower body injuries.
Clock 12-16-2011, 06:26 AM Let's go easy on the whole wishing injury on players thing. I know you guys haven't done that yet, but I wanted to preempt it.
Screw the whole BS grudge rematch angle, just get the points. The Sabres have more important things to worry about. Finish your checks on Timmeh if you think it'll make for crowd-pleasers and help generate some more energy.
(And know that Connolly will score.)
I also can't even explain how giddy I am to watch this game with RJ AND high-def. Thank you, FiOS...
HiddenInLight 12-16-2011, 06:53 AM I hold no grudge against timmy. I'm just calling it as likely because Timmy is due for his yearly giant hit/injury and has a history of it happening in this building. Add to that the fact that Regehr generally plays against whatever line has the scoring touch at the time, which leaves Timmy on the ice with Regehr. That leads to a tunnel of death on timmy in a building where he has history of getting hurt. A lot. Not to mention McNabb and Weber should be playing and their hits can't be discounted either. I just think putting any grudges fans may hold aside, buffalo's defense is a nasty match up for anybody that is as fragile as TC right now, not to mention BZK who isn't a slouch either. Honestly I wish TC the best in his carreer. I liked him as a sabre though I knew his time here had passed last year. I just don't wish him points while playing us.
Anyways, does anybody have a clue about our lines? My hope for line up:
Vanek - Adam - Pomminville
Ennis - Roy - Kassian (I think he's earned the bump)
Ellis - Sczehara (sp?) - Stafford (again deserves the bump)
McCormick - Gaustad - Kaletta/MAG unless I'm missing a forward somwhere
Sekera - Regehr
Ehrhoff - McNabb (I think he's earned it too)
Weber - Leopold
Nice balanced defensive lineup. 3 Defensive Dmen with 3 puck movers. Give Kassian the bump to line two with Roy and Ennis and see if maybe he can give that line a spark and some nice physical play. Adam no longer needs to be with Leino since he is hurt. Hopefully we can recreate the offense that line had early on. Stafford needs a kick in the pants maybe the 3rd line demotion will force him to put in more effort. If he needs to work for his spot in the top 6 we might see the stafford from last year. McNabb has been good for us. Give him a test by putting him with ehrhoff. If he does well, having a solid defensive player may allow Ehrhoff to start up his offensive game again instead of covering for Grags' mistakes. If McNabb can't handle the minutes then give leopold his spot and put him with Weber for the rest of the game, because McNabb and Weber would be fairly scary together from a physical standpoint also solid defensively. As for our forwards, let's just hope gaustad and Kaletta can go tonight....
BuzzKillington90 12-16-2011, 07:07 AM Posted this in my other thread, but since it's game day....and at home...

Vanek and Stafford, Oh crap someone tripped
guess their hurt again.
Coaches are crying, fans are booing
Can't they do anything right.
Hang your heads and say your prayers
Cause the sabres are at home tonight.
Corto 12-16-2011, 07:42 AM Sabres win. Ugly.
3-2, OT.
Afino 12-16-2011, 07:46 AM Win.
KevinFG 12-16-2011, 07:54 AM 3-1 Sabres.
I like our chances. Against Toronto, it isn't technically a home game.
Zip15 12-16-2011, 08:13 AM Wholly unsatisfying 3-2 shootout victory.
Grabovski
Bozak
Gaustad
Ennis
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 08:18 AM The surly nature of the home crowd will be peaked tonight with our *ahem* Canadian friends *ahem* in attendance. I expect the police blotter to be extra full tomorrow.
Duddy 12-16-2011, 08:20 AM no more injuries would be a pretty good result.
ZZamboni 12-16-2011, 08:21 AM Expect Connolly to score at least once tonight. It will happen, get used to the idea.
3-2 Sabres lose
Another Sabre goes down with an injury (no not ex-Sabre)
Vanek, Roy, or Ehrhoff with a goal
HiddenInLight 12-16-2011, 08:27 AM Expect Connolly to score at least once tonight. It will happen, get used to the idea.

Unless he breaks his ankle putting on his skates or trips and concusses himself on the way to the bench after warmups. Dude just can't catch a break in this building.
Buffalo87 12-16-2011, 08:31 AM I have nothing against Tim Connolly, I just didn't like him as a Sabre. I still wish him the best going forward, just not tonight.
Sabres 3-2 - Vanek x2, Ehrhoff

You haven't seen the new improved Sabres. Doesn't show in the W/L column, but even a strongly worded letter to Miller will get you in a fight.

Stop Winnin 12-16-2011, 09:57 AM Biggest game of the year, it's gut check time. Get two points, don't give Toronto anything, LETS GO BOYS.
Sabretip 12-16-2011, 10:00 AM There’s always a buzz at the First Niagara Center (or whatever they’re calling the Sabres’ barn this week) when the Leafs are the guests on a Friday night. Factor in the return of Connolly and dare we say it, the atmosphere figures to be almost playoff-like this time around. To add some punch to the first of six meetings between the two, the Sabres find themselves two points behind the Leafs in the Northeastern Division standings and it is no stretch to suggest the season series between the two could have serious playoff implications.
“If you look at the standings right now, I’d anticipate Buffalo being a team that we’re going to be neck-and-neck with all year,” Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul said following Thursday’s practice at the Air Canada Centre. “And we’ve got to play them six times. It’s a fun place to play with the building basically half and half between (Leafs fans and Sabres fans), a great atmosphere.”
“The big hurdle is getting by (Ryan Miller) in goal. We found a way to beat him last year, but we could say the same thing about the Bruins last year.”

At the moment, just put Ellis in for Kaleta. Nothing else updated.
Its surprising too, he practiced in full last two days.
Edit: Apparently Kaleta isn't feeling good, probably sick.

Things have changed since then...see: Tootoo, Jordan getting gangbanged by Miller/Gaustad/Tropp (I think Tropp was the other guy there). Or Ehrhoff (yes, that Christian Ehrhoff--no, I'm serious, this is not a typo--no really, believe me, it was indeed a Sabre wearing #10, and we know it could never be Tallinder) tossing them with Greening at the end of the 3rd period last game against Ottawa when he bumped into Miller.
As for Myers, he's set to be "re-evaluated" on Monday or Tuesday last I heard, and was about 1-3 weeks away. He says it's been progressing well, so it's possible by next week he'll be suiting up.
SabresAreScaryGood 12-16-2011, 11:23 AM Lets go VANEK! Big game.
funkymag77 12-16-2011, 11:26 AM Huge game, play with passion please

Ray Ray is the man! His opening intro coming onto the field has more effort then most Sabres give for an entire game. Dude is nasty!
With Lenio absent and MAGs riding luxury box, the Sabres show some scoring punch and beat the Leafs by 2 goals. Ruff then inserts MAGs back into lineup next game vs Pens and Sabres get blown out. Ruff's post game is filled with questions on why they reverted back to a slow start......MAGs...just say no....to his ice time.
aceface33 12-16-2011, 11:28 AM In honor of tonight's game I'm going to drink beer and wander around town until I find a Canadian to fight with. Should be much more entertaining than the actual game.

Back to acting my age, I want this game BAD. Really bad. Should be a close one. I think we'll pull it out, in a rare fit of optimism.

Do they need to be drunk? If so, I suggest Exchange St. near Washington. Stand by the row of busses and find someone standing. Follow the piles of beer cans.

3-2 Sabres.

Seriously? He looks out the window, insults what he sees (the city) and asks for a windowless room. He's classless and a schmuck apparently.

It's joking about the view being ugly.
Though personally I love Buffalo City Hall..
BuzzKillington90 12-16-2011, 02:43 PM Someone help me understand something. What is the significance of Lupul's tweet about windowless buildings? I feel like something's going right over my head.
His tweet was a picture of a parking lot next to his hotel, and he insinuated that the sights of Buffalo are bad enough to want a windowless hotel room. Basically a dig against the city.
Sad part was in the background were two decent architectural buildings.

The Buffalo #Sabres have recalled forward Colin Stuart from Rochester (AHL).
Good night for Stafford to score a hattie and make us forget, at least for a night, why we all (or most) include him in every trade proposal we concoct.
The regular season series with Toronto is going to be huge and the outcome may very well determine our playoff chances. If we can't beat Toronto, it's gonna be a short season.

Someone is classless because they don't like the view outside of their hotel room? Maybe it speaks more about your own opinions of the city when one picture from one vantage point leaps you to the conclusion that it was a dig against the city rather than a dig at the immediate surroundings in view (aka that world class parking lot that apparently he's so classless for not appreciating), lol.
At worst, he doesn't think Buffalo is a pretty city. Is that such an offensive opinion to have? It's not like the guy was insulting the people and culture in the city.

Well, true. The guy managed to screw up the language in only five words, so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't articulate his thoughts the same way despite the obvious ways his wording could be interpreted. :sarcasm:

First shift, he's out there on D. If that's what one calls what he's doing...
HockeyCrazed101 12-16-2011, 06:42 PM No, but to go onto Twitter and voice it is a little bit lame.
Well, true. The guy managed to screw up the language in only five words, so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't articulate his thoughts the same way despite the obvious ways his wording could be interpreted. :sarcasm:
No big deal, though. Lupul's just trolling.
Sure the comment was unnecessary but I'm just surprised by the degree of backlash it received. Honestly, I've heard FAR worse said about Buffalo, hell, I've heard far worse said/insinuated about my own city and I've never really seen that kind of reaction, lol.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 06:42 PM Grags and Roy combine for a turnover and resulting Toronto sustained pressure. Surprising start.
Beerz 12-16-2011, 06:43 PM First shift, he's out there on D. If that's what one calls what he's doing...

:shakehead frickin' Ruff.
Myllz 12-16-2011, 06:43 PM Regehr - Sekera
Ehrhoff - Leopold
Gragnani - Weber
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 06:45 PM Is Lindy matching the Roy line against Kessel? Cause that's the second time they've been on the ice together.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 06:45 PM Gragnani luck Kessel is just off-sides there.
Beerz 12-16-2011, 06:45 PM Sure the comment was unnecessary but I'm just surprised by the degree of backlash it received. Honestly, I've heard FAR worse said about Buffalo, hell, I've heard far worse said/insinuated about my own city and I've never really seen that kind of reaction, lol.
It's Twitter....what do you expect?
ZZamboni 12-16-2011, 06:47 PM High tempo ... Like it!
Myllz 12-16-2011, 06:48 PM You know, whenever RJ rips on Ray about something, he never actually sounds sarcastic about it.
Beerz 12-16-2011, 06:48 PM McNabb in
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 06:49 PM "Never play Lady of Spain again!"
Myllz 12-16-2011, 06:50 PM Now we need to rotate defenseman just so Gragnani can play?
jfb392 12-16-2011, 06:53 PM McNabb and Weber out against General Mac and Tinman.
I like.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 06:58 PM Roy needs to shoot that.
jfb392 12-16-2011, 07:00 PM Why have almost all of (if not all of) Gragnani's shifts been against Kessel? :help:
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:00 PM Grags is ****ing incapable of 1-on-1 defense.

MGIII 12-16-2011, 07:02 PM That was some fun hockey.

Ask Ruff, I'm sure he has a good reason :sarcasm:
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:04 PM That's the second time Connolly's picked someone clean at the dot, haha.
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:04 PM Stafford had a prime chance to lay into Connolly there.
Sabres Fan UK 12-16-2011, 07:05 PM That was awesome between RJ, Neale and Ray.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:07 PM Digging Adam-Gaustad-Kassian tonight so far.
Sabres Fan UK 12-16-2011, 07:07 PM Kassian is looking VERY strong so far.
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:08 PM Pretty funny seeing Weber taking a ton of shots from the point when his partner is Grags.
Ball1374 12-16-2011, 07:09 PM Kassian just held of Grabovski on that cycle with a should shrug. That was VERY impressive
GrigsAndGirgs 12-16-2011, 07:09 PM Kassian is looking VERY strong so far.
The way he protects the puck along the boards...we haven't had a player like that in how long?
I really want to see Hecht play with Kassian. Stick them with a shooter (maybe Gerbe?) and you'll have one hell of a puck possession line.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:09 PM Roy is so bad.
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:10 PM Rob smoked Harry on that one.
nothing negative on the stat sheet for roy there...
but that turnover and subsequent penalty starts with his poor decision making
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:11 PM And yeah, great plays by Kassian on the cycle. Also, it's a pity that Weber doesn't have a better shot. His offensive instincts are way better than he gets credit for.
Dixon Ward 12-16-2011, 07:11 PM wtf are mcnabb and gragnani both dressed?
fing0rz 12-16-2011, 07:14 PM ray with a non smartphone, wtf mate

GrigsAndGirgs 12-16-2011, 07:18 PM wtf are mcnabb and gragnani both dressed?
Stuart was called up today, but the Amerks were in Texas so he might not have been able to get here in time, thus 7D being dressed.
Clock 12-16-2011, 07:19 PM Hemmed in our own zone a bit too much in the first. Gotta get some sustained offense in there.
Kassian doing another Jagr impression... <3
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:20 PM Loving Weber so far tonight -- four hits and three blocks on the stat sheet but all sorts of smart, simple play.
wshahbaz 12-16-2011, 07:22 PM anyone else watching this winter classic thing playing on the stream of the game??
GrigsAndGirgs 12-16-2011, 07:23 PM Loving Weber so far tonight -- four hits and three blocks on the stat sheet but all sorts of smart, simple play.
Yeah, this looks more like the Weber we expected, not the preseason Weber. Really hope he keeps it up so when Myers comes back:
Regehr-Myers
Leopold-Ehrhoff
Sekera-Weber
(McNabb in Rochester because riding the pine here is useless, but called up if someone gets hurt)
Gragnani
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:33 PM Apparently there's a sign that reads "TARO SEZ WHY U SUCK AT HOME?"
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:35 PM I love watching Gaustad switch hands on the faceoff. Actually, I love watching the guy he's taking the draw against's face.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:35 PM Connolly's lucky he had his head up for a change.
S319R11S16 12-16-2011, 07:37 PM Apparently there's a sign that reads "TARO SEZ WHY U SUCK AT HOME?"
Yep. Think it was the sabres fan of the year who put it up.
**** off vanek.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:37 PM Dammit Vanek.
Sabres Fan UK 12-16-2011, 07:37 PM Wtf Vanek!
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:37 PM Terrible job from Vanek. Bad pass and a worse decision at the blue line.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:37 PM Turn away to put my daughter in bed and they come down and score.
Lupul can suck some dead donkey hiney.
Too bad Goose is an absolute black hole of offense. He's a overpaid 4th line C/faceoff specialist.
ZZamboni 12-16-2011, 07:38 PM Ahhhhhh

I get the love for Tom, but I'm not adverse to putting him on the block.
he should be on the block. when he's not putting the puck in the net, he's been absolute garbage this year.
fing0rz 12-16-2011, 07:40 PM Vanek has some making up to do
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:41 PM Kassian has been so good. Great play in the neutral zone to draw that penalty.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:41 PM ABBA taking a penalty there.

Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:43 PM Can we give Kessel a few more 2 on 1 opportunities? That's number three on the night.
MGIII 12-16-2011, 07:46 PM Obviously Vanek didn't like that "put him on the block" chat.
He could've given up three more goals like that and I wouldn't put him on the block. He's not a defenseman.
People are letting the slump/poor play get to them.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:46 PM Can we give Kessel a few more 2 on 1 opportunities? That's number three on the night.
Bad zone awareness again for the Sabres -- flicking the puck into two men standing still at their own blueline (one of them a defenseman) is bad news. Turn it back up the wall hard.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:47 PM MAG letting it fly! Wide....
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:48 PM Gragnani takes a shot and misses the arena.

Sabres Fan UK 12-16-2011, 07:48 PM Gragnani shot? Ruff really must have been pissed.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:48 PM What the hell, McNabb with 1 shift in the second.
And Roy continues with the wheel of idiocy and takes an offensive zone penalty.
joshjull 12-16-2011, 07:49 PM Dumb dumb dumb
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:50 PM I know we're down a billion centers, but I'd be totally fine with Chewy-Adam-Gaustad for the rest of this game.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:51 PM Should be 2-1. Liles had no reason not to shoot that.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:51 PM Of course Harry mentions the streak and they score. :biglaugh:
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 07:51 PM Miller has let in that exact goal for like eight straight games against the Leafs.
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:51 PM Nice shot. Top corner from the blue line.

MyersMagic57* 12-16-2011, 07:57 PM I had high hopes for Kassian and looks like I'm right. He's looking like he is here to stay. and Vanek, now thats how a goal scorer scores. Watch Ovi get that pass and blast it at the net and not score
Love seeing some big forwards out there for a change.
Kassian is about to make his way onto my untouchable list.
Wow, first time I'm seeing Kassian in an NHL game, he looks GREAT. Stymieing our defenders, he could turn out to be a Lucic type player, but faster.
MGIII 12-16-2011, 07:58 PM lol @ thomas "vanish"
Yep, you're not allowed to do anything but score in every game around here.
S319R11S16 12-16-2011, 07:58 PM I love the feeling of having a dman who lines people up on the blueline.
Play4Miracles* 12-16-2011, 07:58 PM just wanted too say that i like Zach Kassian even more than crab legs.
Myllz 12-16-2011, 07:59 PM Thanks, Clarke. That was mighty stupid.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 07:59 PM MacArthur has returned... to the penalty box. Good hack CMac.
Fire Me 12-16-2011, 08:00 PM wow the Leafs remind me of... well, the Sabres. Every time they score a goal they fall asleep right after and let the other team get back in it
Myllz 12-16-2011, 08:00 PM Need a goal here. Almost a full 5 on 3. Don't screw this up like usual.
struckbyaparkedcar 12-16-2011, 08:00 PM Adam's not playing center.
I'm aware. Doesn't mean he can't adjust for a period and a half.
And man, I missed some decent action. The goal and the McNabb hit.
HARRY THE SABRES ARE ON THE POWER PLAY
Yeah, you'd better hack down that sniper Matt Ellis, MacArthur.
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 08:01 PM I love the feeling of having a dman who lines people up on the blueline.
It's great to have someone that they have to think about back there.
And Pom's gets raked. Lordy.
And we get to see the static powerplay now, eh? Eh.
Fire Me 12-16-2011, 08:01 PM General MacArthur, court-martialed!!!
MyersMagic57* 12-16-2011, 08:01 PM I still think Vanek is a better overall player than Kessel hands down
ZZamboni 12-16-2011, 08:01 PM There's still not a player that is untouchable on the Sabres or Amerks
Chainshot 12-16-2011, 08:01 PM And they stand still. Stupid.

indigoo 12-16-2011, 08:05 PM This has to be the most consistent game/2nd period from the team all season. PRESSURE PRESSURE!
Zman5778 12-16-2011, 08:05 PM Roy with a heck of a heads-up play to get that penalty.
Went right at the guy without a stick.....
joshjull 12-16-2011, 08:06 PM We all know the Leafs are taking penalties to keep McNabb in the bench.

cybresabre 12-16-2011, 08:06 PM I like Vanek with Kassian, they are two big bodies to move and Thomas is the perfect match for Zack's phenomenal vision.
Ball1374 12-16-2011, 08:06 PM Awesome heads up play by the Hoff there, drew us another penalty! :handclap:
S319R11S16 12-16-2011, 08:07 PM What a heads up play by Ehrhoff to skate in there and grab the puck after the hand pass. Probably setup that PP.
