(No article, saw it on PTI and is being discussed on ESPN boards)
What in the blue hell is the NFL thinking for imposing this fine? Not just imposing this fine, but it was said they will increase it if Plummer continues to defy the "uniform code".Plummer is doing nothing to deface his uniform in any way. He's not wearing an oversized patch on his jersey, not writing the number in a huge font on his socks or something extreme like those and is in no way trying to gain publicity for this. He's simply wearing a sticker that was "legal" to wear a week earlier.
Personally, I'm all for a player wearing ANY sort of tribute to anyone, as long as it does not advertise a company/product/person/anything and is not ludacrisally oversized. If an NFL player lost a loved one and wants to wear a sticker with thier initials on it, go for it.
Personally, I would love for a player to pull a "Chad Johnson" and grab a sign that had some sort of memorial to Tillman on it.I know, you may be thinking, "that will only gain publicity for the player" and while that is true, It's still a helluva gesture to show the family what Pat meant to the players, his team, the NFL and most importantly, his country.
The NFL has a personality problem. I understand they are out there with these United Way commercials but thats not it. From Ray Lewis to Rae Carruth to Randy Moss(although I am a huge fan of his for the after touchdown "celebrations" of giving the ball to the handicapped kids...note to NFL: SHOW THIS STUFF ON REPLAYS), the NFLs players arent getting a good rep. There's no way for a player ON THE FIELD to show personality and not get penalized for it.Now they are banning the GOOD GESTURES the players are expressing.
Wake up NFL, yes, you are the "No Fun League", but let a guy ****ing tribute furchristsakes.
