NFL will fine Plummer for wearing Tillman tribute sticker...

(No article, saw it on PTI and is being discussed on ESPN boards)

What in the blue hell is the NFL thinking for imposing this fine? Not just imposing this fine, but it was said they will increase it if Plummer continues to defy the "uniform code".Plummer is doing nothing to deface his uniform in any way. He's not wearing an oversized patch on his jersey, not writing the number in a huge font on his socks or something extreme like those and is in no way trying to gain publicity for this. He's simply wearing a sticker that was "legal" to wear a week earlier.

Personally, I'm all for a player wearing ANY sort of tribute to anyone, as long as it does not advertise a company/product/person/anything and is not ludacrisally oversized. If an NFL player lost a loved one and wants to wear a sticker with thier initials on it, go for it.

Personally, I would love for a player to pull a "Chad Johnson" and grab a sign that had some sort of memorial to Tillman on it.I know, you may be thinking, "that will only gain publicity for the player" and while that is true, It's still a helluva gesture to show the family what Pat meant to the players, his team, the NFL and most importantly, his country.

The NFL has a personality problem. I understand they are out there with these United Way commercials but thats not it. From Ray Lewis to Rae Carruth to Randy Moss(although I am a huge fan of his for the after touchdown "celebrations" of giving the ball to the handicapped kids...note to NFL: SHOW THIS STUFF ON REPLAYS), the NFLs players arent getting a good rep. There's no way for a player ON THE FIELD to show personality and not get penalized for it.Now they are banning the GOOD GESTURES the players are expressing.

Wake up NFL, yes, you are the "No Fun League", but let a guy ****ing tribute furchristsakes.

Plummer should ask the NFL to donate the money to whatever Pat Tillman fund they have set up.

Geez...the two knew each other from their ASU days and are good friends. Nothing wrong with paying tribute to a good friend who is also an american hero.

The NFL should give their heads a good shake.

Derek Smith of the 49ers asked about it last week and got the same response.

The NFL is a joke. Plain and simple. How can this honestly be fined?

The NFL is terrible at these things. When Johnny Unitas died, Peyton Manning wanted to wear black high tops in tribute to the great COLTS QB, but the NFL ruled only Baltimore RAVENS players could play tribute to him. He may have played in Baltimore, but he was a Colt. And either way, why should guys get fined for paying tribute to someone? Terrible.

Any new news? Maybe the NFL decided to give the money Plummer got fined for back? Or will allow him to wear it?

SC reported yesterday Plummer will take the sticker off and "will find another way to honor Tillman". Sad.

Write the #40 on your shoes is the first thing I would think of.

Last season (and not to play this down) but the panthers had shirts made with #58 and #51 on it, and you could see them through their white uniforms for Mark Fields and Sam Mills because they both had cancer.

If I were Plummer, every time I threw/ran for a TD, I would honor Tillman in someway. I would say doing a simple salute would do, but they already do that in Denver. I'm sure Jake, having played with him in college and the pros, can think of something worthy. Maybe he could salute with one hand and point to the sky with the other, to let everyone know it's for his buddy. It's ridiculous what the NFL is making him do. Let him wear it until the season is over.

Just an update...

Plummer wore the sticker in week 3, NFL trying to save face said they would not fine him if he didnt wear it week 4, he didn't, he did however wear it for this week's game.

That's why they call it the NO. FUN. LEAGUE. I agree with whoever said the NFL is horrible at stuff like this. A little too stuffy for my tastes.
