Impossibles 10-17-2004, 01:32 PM I've heard that NFL games are great on TV, but not that great to watch live. Is this true?
I mean watching the actual game, not the pre/post game festivities. And I'm looking for responses from people who have gone to a few games, not just one or two.
Dave is a killer 10-17-2004, 01:41 PM one thing's for sure...you get to save your voice and you won't have as big as a headache at the house unlike when you go to a stadium, you also won't get a beer spilled on you at your house like you will when you're surrounded by morons at any sports event. ... but that's just my opinion

IMO NFL games are better on TV than in person; although, it is fin to go to the games occasionally.
So much downtime while at an NFL game, long commercials, time-outs, injuries etc etc. Also don't get to see two or three replays after every game (although it's better now that most stadiums have the huge video boards).
Also depends on where the game is, what time of year, and the weather.
Going to football games IMO is more about the experience, tailgating outside etc. ... more like a big party ... as compared to hockey, baseball or basketball ... where it's more about the game.
guinness 10-17-2004, 02:00 PM Watching the NFL in person is boring, IMO. I think that's why everyone likes to tailgate, when you're already have a buzz on going into the game, it takes the dullness out of it.
I'm surprised people don't tailgate before an MLB game.

Amen on that, in fact I always look forward more to the tailgate than the game, but that probably has more to do with the fact I'm more of a drunk than anything else.

Alot depends on your seat, the worst seats to ever get is downstairs in the endzone, it's near damn impossible to tell if someone broke a run for five yards or fifeteen.
Liquidrage* 10-17-2004, 02:11 PM It depends on your seats and the stadium.
I've been to games where I watched the game on the jumbotron because the view from my seats was horrid.
And I've been to games where my seats had a great view of the game was great and beats what you get at home. The camera at home follows the ball. In person you say things like "OMG HE'S OPEN DEEP!!!! THROW IT!!" that you'll never even see watching at home.
And realize, that some stadiums are generally better then others at giving you a great view of the game.
But overall, it's easier at home to pick up on what is going on. The close up zooms on TV just beat the detail you can pick up from watching the game.
Of course, there's so much more about seeing a game in person then the view so overall I'd rather see a game live then on TV.
Dr Love 10-17-2004, 02:17 PM It all depends. Bad seats at a good game generally beat good seats at a bad game. The atmosphere, at least to the games I have been to, is what makes the difference. If the crowd is pumped, you're gonna have a good time. If you're at a Cardinals game, then I hope you at least have some good seats.

8 home games vs 81 home games. :lol

Also, there's the 7pm start times......a lot of people are rushing out of work to merely make the games on time.
Oilers Chick 10-17-2004, 09:43 PM I think it depends upon the game.
I've been to NFL games at several venues. Some were ok, while others were awesome. The most boring one I've been to was in Baltimore during the Colts days. They were playing against Washington (I think it was) and it was terrible. Very Cold November day, people weren't into the game and the TV timeouts seemed to be eternal. The best in person games I went to were at Candlestick when the Niners hosted the Steelers and at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Vikings fans were absolutely harsh on the Redskins and their fans. Both games were back in late 80's/early 90's. (sorry haven't been to an NFL game in the last five years).
SwisshockeyAcademy 10-19-2004, 05:54 AM Unless i had Saints season tickets i would rather be home with my Sunday Ticket. I do like to get out every couple of years to a live game to "live" the game a little. Being at Buffalo's home opener sent chills down my spine as the US Airforce came over the stadium. Beautiful weather, great crowd- have to do it once in a while.I was also at the other end of the spectrum in 97, a rotten Bears team hosting Tampa on the coldest day of the year in Chicago. The Bears actually won that day in a 13-10 snooze fest. Reidel Anthony actually had a TD that day and his career ended without many of those. Another Florida WR bust. The memories.
PredsFan77* 10-19-2004, 12:06 PM I have Titans season tickets, but sell all but two or three.
I'd rather stay at home and watch the games on the dish with Sunday Ticket on my 50' big screen.
USC Trojans 10-19-2004, 12:10 PM I got box seat tickets to the Raiders vs. Chargers game on the 31st, courtesy of Fedex. But I have to drive two hours to get to San Diego.
