Nothing to do with those teams. The Nords fans are just showing their dedication to the game and that there's still a fanbase in QC that can support a team. I'm pretty sure the Nords movement isn't pushing relocation. Either way I've got a lot of respect for them.

Lucky, would love to have the leafs host them.
pepty 02-07-2012, 09:08 AM I can imgine how it feels to lose a team after all we came close to losing the Sens.
Look foreward to hosting them, their other road trips to see the islanders went well I think, they are out to have fun.
Taoiseach 02-07-2012, 12:44 PM It's a shame that they're going a Hawks-Wings game later on this year. When I saw that they'll be at a game on March 4th (or 3rd?), I had to look into it.
I'd have loved to join in at the game in Detroit on the 4th, but they'll be elsewhere. :(

slamigo 02-07-2012, 01:24 PM The first NHL game I ever went to was at the old Forum in Montreal circa 1979-80. It was a Saturday night and Montreal was playing against the Nordiques. We were just visiting the city on a family trip.
The only thing I vividly remember about that game was that the crowd was nuts. As in, as a kid, I was genuinely worried that a riot was about to start. I couldn't shake the thought that all those people were totally insane. Those fans DEFINITELY need to get a team back. :D
HankHillC3H8 02-07-2012, 10:18 PM I'm pretty amped to see their fans in action but from what I saw of the Islanders game they were great. I'm only going to 4 games this year and one of them happened to be this one.

Kekumba 02-08-2012, 12:20 AM Didn't they go down to the glass and start cheering during the play in New Jersey last year? SBP's ushers will lose their minds if they try and pull that here, haha.

Here's a little translation if it can help : Nordique’s Nation biggest splash will be in Ottawa during the Hockey Day in Canada. All eyes will be on us since it is "coast to coast" like we say! Let’s show everybody that we are the best and biggest hockey fans.
When I heard last year that they were doing this "tour" around the NHL I first thought that they would be obnoxious à la Habs or Leafs fans. But don’t worry, they will be cheering for the Sens and will make a lot of noise (something we’re not used to) and be respectful. They truly deserve a team and it’s a great way to show the NHL that Quebec City is a great hockey town.

The Leafs and Canadiens are also playing at the same time.
Which means that you will only get exposure in the Ottawa region, as the Habs Leafs game will be televised nationally.
Edit: although CBC would most likely make special mention of you guys during the intermission, which would be something.
Edit Edit: We start at 2, so never mind this entire post.
SixthSens 02-08-2012, 09:55 AM Looking forward to seeing the Nordiques fans on Saturday at SBP :yo:

Hockey day in Canada, so the Canadian games are spaced out (except WPG). We play at 2pm, habs leafs at 7pm, so no conflict.
Welcome Nordiques fans! Hopefully we'll able to visit your shiny new NHL team sometime soon.
LadyM 02-08-2012, 11:32 AM I really want to go to this game, watched the youtube videos & it looks like they're going to inject some great energy into SBP! It's going to be one fun game to be at! :handclap:

Great to have a group of hockey fans attend the game, rather than the drunken leaf boors.
Wishing you guys get an expansion team!!!
Spezza19 02-08-2012, 05:22 PM Good for them! Love the spirit and enthusiasm. I'll be at the game and look forward to interacting with a group of great hockey fans. They should be cheering for the Sens right?
Will certainly be a welcomed sight to see a sea of blue jerseys that AREN'T Leafs jerseys.
Everyone should be backing this, they keep up this movement and things fall into place and we're looking at an 8th Canadian team and a potentially new rival.

Kansas City is also rumoured..
I don't understand why the NHL keeps attempting to keep teams in the US. They could double their profits in Quebec.
Shanny 02-10-2012, 09:32 AM The only reason why we're hearing rumours about potential phantom buyers in Phoenix, and the mention of Seattle as a possible landing location is just Bettman(and the bog) raising the price of the franchise to Quebec. It's just simple business tactics.
AndrePetersson 02-10-2012, 09:59 AM Neither city has an arena.
Kansas City has an arena, and Vegas has a deal already in place to build one if they get a team.
The stuff about Seattle and QC are just media stories. I'd be willing to bet that internally KC and Vegas are higher on the table of possibilities at the moment.

Seattle and QC both have arena's that are somewhat suitable for hockey with new arenas on the horizon.
KC does not have anyone interested in actually purchasing the team. The company that owns their new arena already owns the LA Kings. No owner = no team.
Las Vegas is the rumored spot become of Jerry Bruckheimer's interest in owning a team. Again, there isn't a suitable arena to play in even as a stop gap there.
QC and Seattle are much higher on the list as they have:
a) a current arena they can temporarily play in (Le Colisee and the Key Arena)
b) Plans to build a new arena that would be completed within 2 years.
c) An interested owner who has already gotten the ear of Betten in the same manner that Mark Chipman did for Winnipeg. Seattle's potential owner is a good friend of the NHL, the owner of the Chicago Wolves. He is in great standing with the league in the same way Chipman was with the Manitoba Moose.
Keep in mind that this would have to be an immediate move. Phoenix would be done at the end of the season.
This is awesome.
Not going to the game, but if I see them around town I would definitely buy a few beers and even donate to an expansion fund.
Good for the game

QC is starting building this spring (should be completed in 2014-2015)
QC is upgrading the old Colisee this spring
Quebecor has bought naming and management rights to the new building
Quebecor is starting a new french language sports channel in Quebec
Seattle has no plans for an arena, and Key arena could not work temporarily
Kansas City has no groups expressing ownership interest
Glendale and the NHL have had bad relations over the last few months
I think it is pretty clear that the writing is on the wall
aragorn 02-10-2012, 11:14 AM Kansas City is also rumoured..
I don't understand why the NHL keeps attempting to keep teams in the US. They could double their profits in Quebec.
The US has three hundred million plus population & is the biggest consumer market in the world. Unfortunately, 90% or more of that population don't watch hockey but it won't stop the NHL from continually trying to tap into the market.
Also if they can ever secure another television contract with a major US network (ESPN / NBC) which actually pays real dollars to the NHL that would be a home run for the NHL, their owners & the NHLPA/players. Everyone in professional hockey wants US teams to succeed & they will keep trying to do that at almost any cost for the exposure & the possible pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. While some teams lose money, a lucrative television deal would make up for that instantly & the exposure would increase ticket & product sales.

That is Key Arena from the last season the Sonics played there. Unless the place fell apart in the last 4 years, it looks like a perfectly fine arena still. They may need a new building but this would do just fine as a temporary home for an NHL team. Not sure what the issue is there.....

Yes, and your point? Looks fine to me.....
Capacity for hockey is 15,500. Almost exactly the same as MTS Centre. Someone please explain why this wouldn't work for a couple seasons?
The only thing I can see being an issue is fan support, would be very sketchy. There's a reason Seattle lost the Sonics just a few years ago, their attendance was awful and there was next to no support to keep them around. Hell, Mariners games don't even do that well. Seattle is strictly a football city.
Kansas City on the other hand if they ever found an owner could be pretty solid. The Sprint Centre is gorgeous.

If a team went to Seattle, they'd rely quite a bit on Canadians making the trip south of the border for cheap tickets to a game I think.

Bad sight lines in a lot of those seats. Not to mention no plans to upgrade, like QC is doing

You mean from the BC/Alberta area? That's the only provinces close to Seattle. Not as if that would be the core of their fan base. I mean, Seattle has a WHL team- the Thunderbirds but they're not all that competitive, they play in a small arena called the ShoWare Centre which seats 6500. That is a massive jump to go to the NHL. I mean this city had a team in the NBA that had quite a bit of history and at the time of re-location had one of the top rising stars in the league. None of that was enough to keep fans interested. There just doesn't seem to be much of a thirst for sports in that city. The only time I can recall Seattle being on the map in sports is when the Mariners set an MLB record for wins in a season back in 02. So what's gone on for them in the last decade?
Spezza19 02-10-2012, 03:37 PM Bad sight lines in a lot of those seats. Not to mention no plans to upgrade, like QC is doing
QC is no doubt the better option. It's actually kind of odd that Seattle would have a strong owner much like Winnipeg did with Chipman yet there isin't any lobbying to the city's council for a new arena or even upgrading Key Arena. Not aggressive enough....

Capacity for basketball is 15,500. Capacity for hockey (for seats with an actual view of the ice) is closer to 10,500 according to numerous sites.
So it would be the smallest arena in the NHL with a new arena years away from being completed.

Don't know where you're getting your information from but Wikipedia and a couple other sites have it listed as:
Basketball - 17,072
Hockey- 15,177
Concerts - 16,641
Makes sense too since when the Sonics played there it was a standard 17k like any other arena in the NBA. When the Sonics made the playoffs they hit 18k.
Really, all they would need is some renovations and it would be right on par with MTS.
Normally, you want ownership down first and than plans for an arena. If they have the ownership and the city could care less about an arena, than Seattle is not a viable option. That simple.

Correct, mostly the Vancouver/Surrey/Victoria area. And yes, I didn't mean they'd be core fans, just that they'd probably boost attendance by a couple thousand a night and guarantee sell-outs against most of the Canadian teams. Seattle is tricky because it seems so lucrative but has historically been meh for sports teams.

Really makes the point stand out that we don't have enough young high energy fans at games to get the crowd going and get the place bumping. And if we do, it's short lived and doesn't carry on to the rest of the building.
Was great being at the game today. Nordique fans have a ton of passion and it was nice to have them behind the Sens are starting to many chants.
As for our fan base.....the old people really need to go away already.

Unfortunately the old people hold the majority of season tickets which makes up a large percentage of tickets. Without them I don't think attendance numbers would be as good as they are (this is the case for almost every team though).
There have been some games where the atmosphere was pretty good. The last 3 home games come to mind but that can be attributed to Phillips 1000th game and celebration and the Nordique fans today lol.
pepty 02-11-2012, 08:26 PM Any way we could import these Nordiques fans for every Leafs game?
animalchin 02-11-2012, 08:58 PM We sat in the lower bowl, and I am pretty sure my 5 year old son was the most passionate fan in the whole lower section by a fair margin. He made several attempts to get Go Sens Go chants started, danced up a storm, waved his foamy finger and Phillips towel (to the annoyance of those near us)...then was driven to tears by the quick OT loss.
I loved the Nordiques fans' presence. Without them, the arena would have been pretty dead for a pretty great game, as far as I am concerned.
I used to live in Ottawa 10 years ago, and haven't been to a game for a few years. It seems to be getting worse there. Disappointing. Locals need to step it up...in a big way.
There is something wrong when people are annoyed with an enthusiastic 5 year old trying to cheer on a team at a sporting event. Especially when an alarming number of them left with several minutes to go in the game...that was tied?!?!
Samsquanch 02-11-2012, 08:58 PM Im always so let down when I go to games. Its a shame its so dead at SBP most of the time. I guess cause Im coming from out of town I have such great expectations for the game, I usually leave disappointed.
Awesome to see such a loud and dedicated bunch of fans :handclap:. Quebec most certainly deserves a team back IMO. Although I heard the financial forecast for the province of Quebec is not looking too rosy for the coming years, which is a shame because the NHL will surely take that into consideration before awarding a franchise.
Either way its better to have a guaranteed full building, and thats what it should all boil down to.

Some ******* behind me asked "do you mind?" when they were giving the standing ovation to Phillips. Apparently I was in his way. Some people :shakehead
Pretty sure it was the same ********* who stole my Phillips towel too!
animalchin 02-11-2012, 09:09 PM sounds like the same idiot that told me to sit back in my seat when watching Sens in OT in playoffs several years ago. I turned around and said...sorry, but there is an exciting game happening. It is keeping me on the edge of my seat.
P.S. If you need a towel, let me know. Lots of the people who left early around me, also never bothered to pick their towels up once.
I was totally disappointed there wasn't a total sea of towels swirling - a la woohoo playoff years. He deserved a better ovation for sure.

I was at the Philly - Sens game about a month ago, and when there was a fight, some lady asked the person behind me to sit down because she couldn't see..
Its like they thought they were going to an opera.
DethAlive 02-11-2012, 09:55 PM sounds like the same idiot that told me to sit back in my seat
Well about that...if you sit in the 300s(I imagine it happens in the 200s as well) it can block the view for the row immediately above you...I understand being on edge and cheering(won't hear any complain from me about that). But it does kind of suck not being able to view part of the ice because it's blocked by some guy's head...I've missed a few goals(I usally sit in the corners so...sometime, when people don't sit back, they block my view of the nets or one of the face off circles) because of guys not sitting back and it is frustrating sometime... But I guess there's way to ask nicely...
danishh 02-11-2012, 10:07 PM It took fans of a team that hasn't existed in over 15 years to bring some life into SBP...
Meanwhile I keep hearing the same old spiel about waiting for the next generation of sens fans to make our building loud...
it's not waiting for the next generation, it's waiting for the first generation.
the last nordiques generation is in their 30's and 40's, ie they can afford to go to hockey games.
the sens generation is 25-. Busy with school or broke.

But the majority of our season ticket holders are on the older side of things.

and therefore were leafs or habs fans growing up.

Thank you! I keep trying to stress this with people that are complaining about our fan base. Glad some people are keeping it in perspective.
YEMELIN74 02-12-2012, 07:18 AM Alrighty then, something tells me that neither team is relocating anytime soon so why protest at our shows? :dunno: Any way Uncle Eugene should be happy
Just so you know i was there yesterday and we were invited by Uncle Eugene
fried0 02-12-2012, 08:19 AM The Nordiques fans were awesome today. That countdown was deafening when they did it.
Glad I was there to see it
What are they going to do after 20 years?
BonkTastic 02-12-2012, 08:32 AM What are they going to do after 20 years?
Get out of their seats and get a beer during the intermission at an NHL game in QC?
dystemper 02-12-2012, 10:04 AM Where is RSA lately?
it's funny because when the RSA/RSU guys were around here and posting, they would get bashed on by a fair number of posters for having "stupid ideas", etc.
i think that's why ottawa will probably never have a particularly loud building, aside from the playoffs. too many downers in the fanbase. too many fans acting as if we should all sit down and stay quiet, like they're at the opera. if you've ever been to a game, some nights, it feels if you make any noise or stand up and cheer, you're annoying someone.
RonTextall 02-12-2012, 04:31 PM Any way we could import these Nordiques fans for every Leafs game?
They were wearing the right colour! ;)
NN added another dimension to that game. I wondered to myself "how come 1 000 people can make this place louder than I've ever heard it?" A 6h bus ride probably doesn't hurt. I loved that Sparty had a Nords tshirt on under his jersey and was playing to the crowd. I also loved when NN's 16:00 cheering lasted until to a Sens goal and everyone joined in.
Uncle Eugene 02-12-2012, 04:32 PM Just so you know i was there yesterday and we were invited by Uncle Eugene
I didn't invite you.
This guy is full of ****.
AllSystemsGo 02-12-2012, 04:34 PM Nordiques will oh so be back in the NHL next year. Get ready Nords fans, your team is coming back.

Yea I never understood why people bashed the RSA/RSU for trying to create some sort of atmosphere at the Bank. You can still focus on the game while making noise at the same time, its called multitasking.
Yesterdays atmosphere was amazing. It's sad that 2000 Nordique fans can make more noise than 19000+ "fans" at SBP on any other night is pretty sad if you ask me. I heard more Go Sens Go chants yesterday than all the home games combined this season :shakehead

If you could find 2 000 Sens fans who has to take a 6h bus ride (i.e. 6h of predrinking) to the game they'd probably be that loud, too.
Spezza19 02-12-2012, 08:15 PM Not sure if it will be in time for next season, and it may not happen with Phoenix, and Seattle or KC can always make a late and unexpected push. But if Bettman wants to right another wrong and move to a solid market that will have rock solid fan support and finally get up to 8 Canadian teams.....one day at some point in the next few years, Quebec will get a team.
It just makes too much sense to not go back there the same way it did with Winnipeg. A new building would do wonders for a new NHL team and having a new sports network helps too. A lot of buzz in that city right now and they deserve a team for sure.
We'd have an instant rivalry with Nordiques fans the same way we do with Habs fans. While they were great yesterday, when all that passion turns against us and their team was doing well, I could see the same in your face mentality, and the same energy that takes over SBP for the hated Habs/Leafs fans. QC is only five hours from Ottawa.
Patofqc 02-12-2012, 09:46 PM thanks for the nice words guys!!! :handclap:

THIS, Check out any local newspapers comment section whenever a positive article is printed, hell any article really at all the ratio of negative comments to postive ones runs at a rate of roughly 100:1, Ottawa the city everyone loves to hate even it's own inhabitants as well apparently!

The thing with the news paper comments is you have Leaf and Habs fans flooding those sites and posting comments not all but a fair amount.
Rocket Richard 02-13-2012, 12:07 PM thanks for the nice words guys!!! :handclap:
Congratulations Nordiques Nation for making an Ottawa game on National TV appear loud! You guys deserve a lot of credit for your commitment!
No, thanks for making the ScotiaBank Place look full! :yo:
It's a shame we don't sell out on a Saturday CBC game! :help:

People just buy tickets closer to game time, that's all.
NN bought them awhile back, so there were fewer available.
If we were 3000 seats short every game, we wouldn't have the attendence figures we do have.

Great point. When Sparty exposed a Nords t-shirt under his Sens jersey, and showed on his fingers: Nordiques #2, Sens #1, and went into convulsions when Nordiques Nation cheered for him, I thought, "he is creating a monster".
Countdown0 02-13-2012, 07:36 PM Nothing to do with those teams. The Nords fans are just showing their dedication to the game and that there's still a fanbase in QC that can support a team. I'm pretty sure the Nords movement isn't pushing relocation. Either way I've got a lot of respect for them.
This. Though, I'm sure that the Nords are thinking about someone relocating... just not the Sens or the Oil.
Phoenix on the other hand...
Buck Aki Berg 02-13-2012, 08:08 PM it's funny because when the RSA/RSU guys were around here and posting, they would get bashed on by a fair number of posters for having "stupid ideas", etc.
It wasn't their ideas that were stupid, it was their attitude - their notion that you aren't a "real fan" if you aren't cheering yourself stupid for sixty minutes. I don't need other people telling me how to be a hockey fan. If I want to sit and watch the game and not sing and clap to bad music, then that is my perogative. That's what got them run out of town.
