If they drop the "J" they'll have to change a whole lot of monogrammed league stationery and such.

Yeah. So what?

If they change the league name, that should mean a logo change as well...so whatever they would change by dropping the 'J', they would change for the new logo anyway.

I think it should always be the LHJMQ, no matter how many maritime teams there are.

Just the way Ligue de Hockey Junior Majeur du Québec rolls off the tongue. Just sounds good.

Why does it have to change? Because St. John and St. John's are getting teams? The name is fine.

It doesn't have to change but when your league is getting close to the point where half your teams aren't in the geographical region that is in your name, a change should be thought about.

Which is short for: The league has teams from Quebec and the maritimes and only has players under the age of twenty, except for three on each team who are twenty-one.

I think it has a nice ring to it.

EDIT: :shakehead

I got it wrong... It should be:TLTHTFQATMAOHPUTAOTEFTOETWAUT-O

Then just keep it as a dead acronym. Like the ECHL. Last time I checked, Victoria wasn't on the east coast, but why change a classic name? Who really cares.

Should the Ontario Hockey League change its name to the 'Kind of in the Middle-ish Hockey League?"

Ontario has 3 teams not in the province as opposed to the 8 that the Q will have. Notice the lack of any provincial, or for that matter, country reference in the name Western Hockey League.

Well, if technicalities are to be thrown in, shouldn't the NHL/National Hockey League chance it's name to the IHL/International Hockey League, since it spans more then one nation?

6 out of 30 is not 8 out of 18. Good try though. :)

I personally think that we should have the:

WHL - Western Hockey League
CHL - Central Hockey League
EHL - Eastern Hockey League

It makes the most sense... HOWEVER, I think the CHL would have some issues... First, I think there is already a Central Hockey League out there... Plus, the CHL anagram would cause some confusion with the actual CHL (Canadian Hockey League) that runs all three leagues...

I'd love to see the Q change to the EHL though... Because sure now there are still more teams in Quebec than outside of Quebec, but don't be suprised to see a team in the Boston area soon... And although I don't see it happening, Fredericton is still an untapped market for the Q... I think that it would make more sense for the league to have a more relevant name... QMJHL seams so big and bulky compared to EHL... It might be easier to sell teams as part of the Eastern Hockey League in places like Fredericton, Maine and Boston than it is to sell the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League...

it is just my guess, but i'm thinking that in January or February they will announce that the Acadie Bathurst Titans will move to Montréal next year.

If that was to happen, then you lose one team in the East and you add one in Québec.. it would still be 6 teams in the Maritimes, 1 in the US and 11 in Québec.

We'll see. :)

The Titans suck and Montreal wouldn't want to waste their money on them. It has been said in other posts that Montreal is a "habs city", not a "hockey city". Basically, there will be no fan support for a horrible team like Titans. IMO, if Fredericton wants a team, get the Titans.

Keep the QMJHL. It's still the Q.

But instead of having it as a dead name, why not choose a marketing slogan that reflects the style of hockey reflective distinctively in that league: The Quick

Because that, IMHO, would be stupid! :joker:

I hate to be picky but St. John's, Newfoundland is not a part of the Maritimes. The Maritime provinces are New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. . Newfoundland is an Atlantic province but not a Maritime province, so the name Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League would be inaccurate (not to mention that it excludes Lewiston).

EHL sounds fine, but I doubt the League execs would even consider changing the name anyway.

You guys should be careful, with all this talk about dropping the word Quebec from the name of the league, I'm sure the "language Police" will launch a very expensive investigation focused on you.

Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.

I'd agree with this... but Newfoundland is not considered a Maritime province. Don't ask me why... but it doesn't fall under that banner, it falls under the Atlantic Province banner.
