Greg McKegg vs Jared Knightconway902 03-04-2012, 10:14 PM Hey just wondering what London Knights fans think about these two guys?? Michael Gary Scott 03-04-2012, 10:54 PM If this thread catches on, it will not end well. Calling it right now. I dont see enough of both to make a proper statement. Im one of the Leaf fans that arent so sold on McKegg. I just cant see it. Doesnt skate well. Phion Keneuf 03-04-2012, 10:56 PM McKegg AINEC bruinsfan46 03-04-2012, 10:58 PM McKegg is the better junior scorer, Knight has a better all around game and I believe his game will translate much better to the pros. McKegg lacks that extra gear that a lot of NHLers have, he'll never consistently break away from guys at the next level. Knight on the other hand skates very well and should be just fine with the speed of the NHL game. McKegg is a couple inches taller but plays small, there is no physical element to his game, Knight is short but very stocky and really competes physically. Stick skills and offensive vision, McKegg has the advantage in all that but without skating better and adding some grit he won't get to use it in the NHL. Knight is a pretty safe bet to be an effective third liner, maybe more because he crashes the net really hard and has a great shot. johnnyutah 03-05-2012, 01:58 AM Mckegg. Skating was the only knock on him in his draft year and since then hes added serious speed and lower body strength. here you can see him kick into that extra gearhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok74cVayFUw Nasty Nazem 03-05-2012, 02:35 AM McKegg is the better junior scorer, Knight has a better all around game and I believe his game will translate much better to the pros. Every time I've watched McKegg, he is consistently around the net and that's where he gets most of his goals from. He doesn't make huge hits or anything but he doesn't shy away from physicality. He's got a good all-around game and improved his skating ability since his draft year. Not an explosive skater but I think he is average or slightly above average. I can't say who is the better player as I've never really paid much attention to Knight but I've seen McKegg and he's got the potential to be a top 6 forward. I'll wait until someone not named Bruinsfan46 posts in here debating a Leaf prospect vs a Bruins prospect. :) redbeard7737 03-05-2012, 07:22 AM I'll wait until someone not named Bruinsfan46 posts in here debating a Leaf prospect vs a Bruins prospect. :) Yeah, or someone not named nasty nazem or phion kaneuf...obviously leafs fans will say "mckegg ainec" and bruins fans will say "knight has a better overall game"...to be honest, I think knight will be an effective 3rd liner, but never a top 6 nhl'er...mckegg, same thing. Kulemon 03-05-2012, 08:05 AM Kegger is a lot more talented. Knight is the safer bet but has a much lower ceiling (3-4th liner) The Podium 03-05-2012, 08:50 AM Don't expect either to make it TBH. HockeyGuruPitka 03-05-2012, 09:50 AM Definitely do not have an oppinion on Knight. I have followed Mckegg closer then any other prospect in the leafs system. he is a great player that feeds off of great players. Hes basically a David Krejci Lite. Not the most overly physical or explossive, however has great vision and ability to find space. Was always a highly touted prospect however dropped to the third round because of a deep draft, poor rookie season, and an ankle injury. Scouts were under the impression his production was a result of good linemates. This is true, however its not a bad thing having team oriented players rather then individuals. Burke has mentioned that he is very keen on this prospect. He was brought up when Burke was questioned about the future of this team earlier in this season. He was a 2nd overal pick in the OHL priority selection above the likes of skinner, seguin, Fowler, gudbranson.. Mckegg has high end pottential, definitely a PP specialist. However i do agree that he neglects to go into the dirty areas some times. I 100% see him playing in the NHL. Whether it be a trial period, or a full time job he will get his chance. Tim Vezina Thomas 03-05-2012, 10:01 AM I think Jared Knight will 100% be an NHL player, I've seen him a number of times. With that said though, I dont see his upside being more than a third line/maybe second line player. McKegg ive seen a couple times and I think his upside is higher...top six isnt out of the question for this kid. Which one would I have? Not sure. The Bruins have a lot of forwards with the "potential top six-nine" label on them...Koko and Spooner, Caron, Sauve, Arniel, etc., so I'm not sure McKegg (who I feel is in the same ballpark as some of the Bs prospects) is a huge need. Knight could potentially see NHL time next year and contribute...so I'd be inclined to take him. Close though, different players. WasTeD 03-05-2012, 11:23 AM I agree with those who say McKegg is a better junior player but believe Knight's game will transition better to the pro's. VeddarRants 03-05-2012, 02:33 PM Mckegg. Skating was the only knock on him in his draft year and since then hes added serious speed and lower body strength. here you can see him kick into that extra gearhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok74cVayFUw I don't see the extra gear. I see he made a move around a dman who went for an ill-timed poke check and got caught flat-footed. Tim Vezina Thomas 03-05-2012, 02:41 PM I agree with those who say McKegg is a better junior player but believe Knight's game will transition better to the pro's. This I agree with. I see Knight as a pretty much cant miss bottom six prospect, with the potential to make it into the top six (not likely). McKegg I think has more upside and offensive talent. Like I said, theyre different type players with different skillsets. JMcLeaf 03-05-2012, 02:52 PM I really like both players. Mckegg's skating isn't the greatest but he makes up for it with his hockey smarts. He always seems to find a way to put up points. Knight's size is a bit concerning, but the guy is fearless. Always going into the hard areas for the pucks and finds ways to get the garbage goals. Poor man's Ryan Callahan. I see them both maing the nhl either on the 2nd or 3rd line. birddog* 03-05-2012, 07:48 PM McKegg is the better junior scorer, Knight has a better all around game and I believe his game will translate much better to the pros. The Podium 03-05-2012, 09:49 PM Prospect A Capable of lining up at center and wing, XXXX is an offensive catalyst with a good mind for the game. He’s a natural goal scorer who can find numerous ways to bury the biscuit. Not overly physical, but also doesn’t shy away from contact. He has deceptive hands and the ability to slip through tight areas. Game-to-game consistency and strength are areas of weakness in XXXX’s game currently. Prospect B XXXX won't be a huge physical presence, but still shows that he isn't afraid of taking a hit to make a play. He drives hard to the net and is willing to dig for the pucks in corners. XXXX's strongest asset is his elite skill. He possesses soft hands and is is a smooth puckhandler. XXXX is adequate in the faceoff circle and is a solid stickhandler. XXXX has very good shooting skills, with a highly accurate wrist shot. He has good vision and hockey sense and makes smart, crisp passes. XXXX generally makes good decisions with the puck and is an excellent playmaker. He isn't afraid of playing in heavy traffic and shows remarkable poise once on a scoring chance. Eerily similar, and i actually see some similarities in their game. iPunch 03-05-2012, 11:04 PM I wish there were some neutral fans in here. So far we have 1. AmericanDream 03-05-2012, 11:25 PM I expected much more out of both players this season...much more. I have liked these two kids for sometime now, but both leave you underwhelmed this season. Knight is fearless and is a wreckingball on the ice...he should make the NHL in some capacity. McKegg is a smart hockey player. knows where to be on the ice, but doesnt dominate in any single area. dont get those that sya he isnt physical, every time I have seen him play he brings grit and toughness.....he should make the NHL in some capacity as well... but to any clown saying that one prospect is better then the other prospect "AINEC" .....your a trolling goon. both players are very close but in different ways. NeilYoung 03-06-2012, 02:02 AM I like Knight better stlblues9 03-06-2012, 04:17 AM I don't see the extra gear. I see he made a move around a dman who went for an ill-timed poke check and got caught flat-footed. Was going to post the exact same thing. | ||
