Frank Drebin 11-13-2004, 02:39 PM First of all, this is a great idea for a forum, especially with the lockout depriving us of hockey talk.
:handclap:
Post what kind of hockey you play, position, age etc, as well as your highest level of competition.
Myself, I play in the Adult Safe Hockey League, I'm a goalie, never played anything better than House league (bantam and midget) and Bush League Senior.
I just got all new goal gear this year so it's a little tough getting it all broken in, but it's getting better.
Keetz 11-13-2004, 02:53 PM Just started organised last spring at the age of 33. Grew up in minnesota, always skated and played the pond but family couldn't afford the youth programs.
I'm loving it! Everyone is so helpfull and freindly, except for the head hunters who have forced me to wear a full cage because some freak would shoot the puck at my face every time he had a chance. No lie five times in one game even when he had an open shot on goal he choose to lift it to my skull. the ref gave him 2 mins for being a p&ick I think.
I play defence. and have just learned to not screen the goalie. my D partner is my greatest mentor. once I figured out he was yelling at me I started doing what he said and it has made me so much better. the better players still burn me but now it takes effort to burn me.
I'm having the time of my life. Everyone no matter the age or sex needs to play hockey.
I play for The Dallas Stars Selects bantam team as a defenseman and also for the SouthLake Dragons (High School). I huave played since I was 5 and have played for EJK, Bracknell Buzzers, Portland JuniorHawks, and the teams mentioned above.
X-Man 11-13-2004, 03:17 PM i've played since i was 7
i play for the san jose JR sharks midget 18U tier team (i'm 17)
usmhuskies 11-13-2004, 03:56 PM Well I am 27...Played hockey since I was 3: played 4 years for my high school despite my coach hating me): played 1 year of prep school : found out I was nothing but a goon, hey 117 PIMS in 20 games isn't bad... Tried out for a D III(Southern Maine)team a few years back, I made it but I didn't play at all so I hung them up ...I play pick-up every now and then still but i can't play too much cause I run a Men's league in Gorham Maine where a few Fellow HF Boards members still play in(if ya want to see a cool site go to check my pro we have a message board and everything for the league)...Last nite we just had a couple of fights and somebody BITING somebody after a fight: aww some of the thing you see in men's league you wouldn't think could happen...By the way, I was a D man(either side) and I still would put down a 20 dollar wager to anybody who thinks they can get by me... :)
Jacques Plante 11-13-2004, 05:11 PM I Play for the NGS Braves Midget Rep team. I'm a goalie. It's not the NHL but it's a great group of guys in the room and we have fun. We're above .500 too, a rarity for my age group.
Accord 11-13-2004, 10:00 PM First of all, this is a great idea for a forum, especially with the lockout depriving us of hockey talk.

Thank you, thank you :).
I'm 19 and have been playing since I was around 6 or so. I'm a defensemen and currently play in a no checking adult league, the highest level i've played at was travel in Amherst when I was 12.
two out of three* 11-13-2004, 10:16 PM I'm 15, and play for the Midget A 16u Ventura Mariners. I'm a defenseman. The highest level of Hockey I played was this, but I think im for sure AA caliber player.
Coach Bruce 11-14-2004, 03:59 AM I'm a goalie and the highest level I have played is Midget 16u (would have made Midget B that year if it wasn't for the 16u team) for the Tri-Valley Blue Devils. Currently I'm just playing Adult pickups though I'm going to get into an Adult league soon.
Poochie_D 11-14-2004, 08:57 PM right now i play junior triple A in quebec... ive played for well over 10 years. im a center and i like to think my style of play is alot like saku koivu's except im alot bigger then him ( 6'3 ) ;)
Youreallygotme 11-15-2004, 12:39 PM Midget AAA near Kelowna. Highest I played was Junior B near here in exhibition before I got cut.

Aerolanche 11-15-2004, 08:23 PM I am playing Midget Teir II for a double A (AA) organization team on Vancouver Island.
I am a goaltender, my stats so far this season are:
10 Games Played
2 Wins

0 Penalty Minutes
0 Shutouts
585 Minutes Played
44 Goals Against
4.51 Goals Against Average
444 Shots Against
400 Saves
90.09 Save Percentage
The highest level I have played is exhibition in Junior A.
Age: 15

Just started organised last spring at the age of 33. Grew up in minnesota, always skated and played the pond but family couldn't afford the youth programs. I play defence.
If it wasn't for the age difference I'd say we were twins separated at birth....
I started playing on an adult league three years ago at age 36. I grew up in Michigan playing pond hockey and pickup at the local rink but could never afford the youth programs. I also play defense.
My +/- is good and I strip the puck or break up the play more often than I allow shots on goal. I never take a bad penalty. If I could develop a slap shot, I'd probably be in the top pairing.

Where exactly on Vancouver Island? We just finished a tournament in Victoria this weekend and played a few teams from there.
Aerolanche 11-16-2004, 06:32 PM Where exactly on Vancouver Island? We just finished a tournament in Victoria this weekend and played a few teams from there.
Alberni Valley, we weren't there.
Canadian Chris 11-16-2004, 06:47 PM I play Rec league now...haha...it's good times.
I play for the JV team at UNBC - currently basically just in the Rec A division of the PGRHL
Stats can be found here: http://www.pgrhl.ca/teams.asp (http://www.pgrhl.ca/teams.asp)
currently sitting 2nd on my team with 25pts in 13 games.
We also played against Trinity Western University in October up here. 2 really good games. They were all about the speed....we were all about the hitting and punishing them when we got the chances haha...Won 4-2 in the Saturday night game, lost 7-4(half the team was hungover) sunday morning.
I played 2 years of Midget AAA, attended 1 WHL camp :yo: hahaha...ya right. 2 BCHL camps and 2 VIJHL (www.vijhl.com (http://www.vijhl.com)) camps. I played for the Comox Valley Glacier Kings ( http://www.island.net/~gkings/index.html ) towards the end of the 99-00 season, beat Port Alberni in the first round of the playoffs in 5 games, with game 5 going to double OT then lost to the Campbell River Storm in the North Division finals in 3-0....and got smoked handlely haha...
canadahockeygirl* 11-16-2004, 07:47 PM This is such a good idea for a thread...
I'm 24, grew up playing pond hockey and wanted to play with the boys, but I wasn't allowed until I was about 12. By the time I was in HS, the coach said he didn't want any girls on his team (even though I was better than a lot of them), so I played pickup with the boys and took a few clinics with girls. I ended up transferring to a prep school with an awesome team and was converted from D to goal since I couldn't stop checking. I was recruited to a few schools, but didn't play college (I showed up and one of the coaches decided she didn't want 3 goalies, so I quit) other than for a local club team whenever they needed a goalie or when my ex wanted to practice shooting. Last year I played for the Senior Lady Monarchs travel team and pickup with men every Sunday. This year I'm playing pickup as a goalie with two different groups of guys and I'm a very bad forward for the MIT club team. Some nights I'm absolutely awful, but I love being out there.
Douggy 11-17-2004, 05:23 PM This year I'm playing pickup as a goalie with two different groups of guys and I'm a very bad forward for the MIT club team. Some nights I'm absolutely awful, but I love being out there.
You mean the Varsity MIT team??
Zetterberg4Captain* 11-17-2004, 08:11 PM Im a first year Bantam for the Redwing Bandits. I play left wing.
DaveyCrockett 11-17-2004, 10:08 PM I play rec league and shinny year round. I played a bit of house league as a kid but I really didn't start skating until last December. I'm a defensive defenseman. I am pretty awful but I was a decent player in E division in Toronto Ice Vic Park last summer. I currently play non-contact intramural at Western. I am starting my own D division team in the ASHL for this coming summer at Scarborough four rinks. During my 4 months off school in the summer, I play hockey 5 days a week unless my groin injury flares up (4 days shinny/stick and puck, 1 day my actual league).
Speed Demon 11-17-2004, 11:21 PM I currently play Midget AAA for CYV Panthers in New Brunswick, Canada. I am 17 years old.
ShippinItDaily 11-18-2004, 02:41 AM I play Junior B for the Saskatoon Chiefs.
The highest level I ever played was an exhibition game in junior a for the humboldt broncos who went on to be junior a champions of canada, that was 2 years ago.
my league website is www.nsjhl.com
There is a forum on there but i think its terrible ...
canadahockeygirl* 11-18-2004, 08:39 AM You mean the Varsity MIT team??
No, I mean the Women's club team. Only undergrads (or first year grad students who didn't play one of their four years of undergrad) are allowed to play Varsity, and I finished my undergrad in '02.
Buffaloed 11-22-2004, 05:25 PM Thank you, thank you :).
I'm 19 and have been playing since I was around 6 or so. I'm a defensemen and currently play in a no checking adult league, .
We call those slow puck leagues in these parts; no hitting, no slap shots.
Malefic74 11-29-2004, 11:22 AM Can't believe I missed this sticky.
I played one season at left wing when I was 6, I went in net when I was 7 and have been there ever since. I am now 30 and still get that rush every time I make a save and the player has his arms halfway in the air. No better feeling. Like King Kong on cocaine. Highest level I ever played was Junior B in Edmonton.
I play in the Alberta Mens League here in Edmonton, the team generally hovers between Div 3 and Div 4. (The teams in div 3 usually have a couple of guys who played in the W or CIS, Div 2 teams usually have a half dozen of those guys per team.) It's a no hitting league, but slapshots are allowed. I've played in this league for the same team for 10 years. We've won our division 4 times, I've won the Goals Against Award twice. So far this season we're tied for first at 7-3 and I'm sporting a GAA of 3.00

SkateLikeTheWind 11-30-2004, 08:34 AM Playing for the Univ. at Buffalo. Its d-1 club hockey but its still pretty competitive. We are currently 17-2 and ranked 15th in the nation. We probably should be ranked higher but the pollers show no love for the conference we are in.

I currently play for the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, and ACHA D-III team. We should be in D-I or D-II, but just started last season. We are 18-1-1 and according to the ranking committee, #4 in the region. We travel to Texas this weekend to play UT, and Texas A&M.

Faaxinho 12-22-2004, 05:54 PM Used to play as a goaltender. Quitted though two and half years ago due to my back problems and the fact that I used to be the third goalie. The highest level I played was the Finnish C-juniors (15 year-olders) Tier 2.
But, I made it to eurohockey.net! http://www.eurohockey.net/players/frameset.cgi?page=show_player.cgi?serial=52500
Forgot to say that I am a referee nowadays.
PanthersRule96 12-23-2004, 10:40 PM 18U Midget AA in FLA. Our team is better than a lot of AAA teams (there aren't many) in FLA.
I just turned 16. I go up to Canada every summer in Ontario 1.25 hrs NW of London and I've gone to camps up there etc.. and skated with Jr. C kids and AAA kids, and I'd definatley make AAA in Ontario, at least for the region where I was. The tryouts were just before we headed back to FLA, and I would've loved to stay and play.
When I skated with some of the Jr. C guys, they were bigger than me in terms of size (I'm 6-0, 150 pounds, very light), I could keep up in terms of speed and had good skills, but I would have to get heavier to have a chance (steroids anyone, I'd be the next Gretzky, LOL, j/k)
Habsfan 32 12-23-2004, 11:57 PM I stoped playing this year because my back is to weak and i'm 16  i broke a vertebrea last year so it's almost impossible to play for a full week. I was a goaltender but no i play mostly with my friend suring our free period at school and i stay away from having to go goalie because it hurts to much. I play forward and i'm pretty good.
romain_jaime 12-24-2004, 07:58 PM The highest level of hockey I ever played was Midget AA in St-Hubert about 10 years ago lol.
Now I play in www.gmhl.com as spare and play in about 2-3 games a week. I also play in a beer league at McGill University every Saturday afternoon. I also coach peewee AA in the West Island and take my 2 year old son skating every Sunday morning.
puckstopper101 12-27-2004, 09:21 PM Goalie on a local house team in metro-atlanta (15-u all-girls team). I'm a pretty aggressive goalie on the ice and i've been playing since i was eleven

TheStateOfHockey 12-28-2004, 01:45 AM Played high school hockey in Minnesota, the team wasnt all that great but we got to play against Gino Guyer and his Greenway Raiders and Alex Golgoleski and his Grand Rapids Thunderbirds or hawks or whatever the hell they are.
But now I am out of high school and playing pick up games at the local rinks.
Le Golie 12-28-2004, 03:39 AM I play in this league,
http://www.eteamz.com/sihl
My team is in first place, we kill everyone. Closest game was about 5-2. Several of my teammates played pro or semi pro. One of my teammates was the captain of the New York Rangers in 'Mystery, Alaska'.
Highest I ever played was JR B and AAA Midget, take your pick. Midget was much faster and way more professional, we had a trainer, physiotherapist etc. But Jr B was pretty good too surprizingly.
Kamenski 12-28-2004, 05:37 PM Played high school hockey in Minnesota, the team wasnt all that great but we got to play against Gino Guyer and his Greenway Raiders and Alex Golgoleski and his Grand Rapids Thunderbirds or hawks or whatever the hell they are.
I play in a beer league with Marco Peluso's brother (Marco is from Greenway and currently playing for UM-D). Ryan is easily the best player in the league. Simply awesome.
jiggs 10 01-02-2005, 09:43 PM Played in high school in North Dakota with and against players like Jon Casey and Scott Sandelin (in holiday tournaments) and had several teammates who played NCAA Division I hockey. I now play a fast beer league one night a week, a fast rental one night a week, and 2 other rentals with slower friends during the week. Plus I try to get outside on either Saturday or Sunday to skate on the outdoor rinks. I play both forward and defense in the rentals, but try to stick to wing in my men's rec league on Wednesday's.
Keetz 01-03-2005, 12:30 AM Rental league whats that?
jiggs 10 01-03-2005, 03:17 PM Rental league whats that?
It's like an unofficial "league". Someone rents the ice all year, and invites 12-15 players to play in it each week. Just bring a white jersey and a dark jersey and split up the teams each week. You play against the same core group of players, but there are always a few different guys showing up to cover people who are out of town or sick or whatever. And afterward you drink a few beers in the locker room or at a local tavern and B.S. with the guys. So it's like a rec league, except no one keeps track of wins or losses.

I am also playing in the Alberta Mens League and my team is in the top division. It's pretty good hockey, everyone on our team has played a minimum of Jr. B and we've won our division the last two years. The highest level I played was Jr. A but that was 10 years ago. I was good offensively and scored lots of goals but I wasn't good enough for my size at 5'9" and 170 lbs to make it to the next level.
I sure still love playing though, and here's hoping we can get a win tonight!

I'm here teaching English to be near my fiance (Korean) and was asked to join the team by another Canadian teacher. I fare very well with ease playing like this, there is such a large disparity in skating ability between players - I have a blast skating at will out there :D
And yes I've seen Tikkanen down in Anyang...
Tbagger 03-03-2005, 03:17 PM I'm 33. Played roller for about 5 years then thsy shut the rink down. A year later the built the Bakersfield Ice Sports center where I play now. I'm on the Adult Silver league. I play D on the red team.
Galchenkel 03-18-2005, 08:11 PM i'm 17 (october 1987) and i play midget in st pierre and miquelon, afiliate with french hockey asociation but i most play all around newfoundland! here we only have minor hockey that you must finish at 18 and then you play in the local garage league! :D but honestly, we have here young really promising talent but no scouts in the neighbourhood, gotta pay to go to ottawa, quebec, st john's....for training camps :shakehead

That's pretty cool, just goes to show how you can find a hockey league to join just about anywhere I guess. I'm counting on that for when I start moving about after i'm done university.
I play in a intramural league based out of both the University of Waterloo and another one based out of Wilfrid Laurier University. I actually attend WLU, but I play under a friends name at UofW so I can play for free :D . I also play shinny when i'm able to at some noon hours (I was supposed to play every day this week till I hurt my ankle in a game on wednesday night, now i'm out for a while
:madfire: ) and rent the ice at UofW once a week for me and my friends when it's available. For UofW students its only $35 an hour, which is a great deal.
I've only been playing since I started university really, well, other than two years of atom way back when, so I'm hoping to improve enough by the time i'm done here to be able to join a league and not embarass myself.
GoBoltz56 04-06-2005, 01:51 PM I played Junior B in Grand Rapids in the Central states league in 2001-2002, then played for Grand Valley state after i transfered there. Too busy with school at the moment, so i'm not playing currently
TORRUS 04-08-2005, 07:11 AM I'm from Croatia, 20 years old and I quit playing hockey about 5 years ago due to some problems with my teammates. It was the worst decision in my life... I plan to join a veteran team in october because I miss hockey too much! I was a member of the national team (I guess U14 or U15), leading scorer (played center) of our league and the highest level was playing in Slovenian league and tournaments in Czech republic and Slovakia. I played against all Slovenian players who were members of this years U20 squad (Kopitar included :yo: ). All that doesn't matter much since it was long time ago and we were just kids playing hockey.
Yammer 04-08-2005, 09:50 AM I play in a duffer's league. In Vancouver, we're spoiled for choice in recreational leagues -- there's everything for the rec player from beginner to quite expert. We're intermediates, I guess. I'm a checking center -- ok feet, bad hands!
ceber 04-08-2005, 10:38 AM First timer. Playing in this league. http://www.ahahockey.com/TCAHA/index.php

I am a forward and I am 18
Mackee 04-24-2005, 02:52 PM I'm surprised I hadn't posted in this one myself.
Up until this past winter, I was a goalie in the Montreal Hockey League (www.mhl.ca). The league has two seperate seasons (winter and summer obviously) and I played all year round (though I might get back into that next winter).
Two years ago I started playing in the Dollard-Montreal Ball Hockey League (www.dmbhl.com). I was a goalie in that league too. Wound up winning team MVP playing on a very bad team. This summer, I plan on playing defense...got tired of 50 shot games/countless 3 on 1s.
MassiveHabs 04-24-2005, 04:36 PM On my street :shakehead
allin4466 04-24-2005, 06:24 PM I am a goal and the best caliber i ever played was Bantam A(we have A and AA here). That year i played against a few NHL draft pics including Travis Zajac. I ran into the problem of having to compete against Mike Nichol as well as Tyler Plante at every tryout for the high tier teams. Last season of hockey i played was a few years ago as a goalie for our Highschool team, we had a rough go of it, but picked up our play in the final half of the season and cracked the playoffs, only to go out in 4 straight lol.
I play for the Belfast Community Flyers. I'm 23 and only started the game 1 1/2 years ago but loving it and wishing I started earlier. Clearly my career is going nowhere but the rec hockey team im playing with is alot of fun. Only problem is there is only 2 teams in the country and due to a dispute thats only just been resolved we've yet to get a game in against them - yet. We've only had 1 game in our 1 year history against a touring team from NY that beat us 10-5 though I did manage to pick up 3 assists in my only game to date :D
mlamarca 05-01-2005, 07:27 PM I play in Brandon, Florida, in an Adult 35+ B/C Rec League
KingChris 07-22-2005, 05:58 PM San Diego B/C League.
knittingonskates 07-26-2005, 08:15 PM I'm 16 and I play in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, (inline not ice) so around here there isn't that much in the way of competition as we have an in house league though it has produced i think 8 australia players in the last 9 years.
The highest level i've played is starting goal for the state under 17 girls team and in september i'll be back up on the state open women's team to contest in the national titles. I think last nationals i ended up with thr 5th best Gaa in the country for female under 17 goalies.

If only we had goalie coachs

Second Star 08-21-2005, 12:23 PM For '05-'06 I'll be a rookie blueliner on the Pittsburgh Am. Penguins 19-U girls' AAA, 14-U girls' travel and local Bantam A. Last season I played local 19-U and highschool freshman for Ambridge.
Dakota Sioux 08-21-2005, 05:33 PM For '05-'06 I'll be a rookie blueliner on the Pittsburgh Am. Penguins 19-U girls' AAA, 14-U girls' travel and local Bantam A. Last season I played local 19-U and highschool freshman for Ambridge.
Do you just live at the rink or what? That is one heck of a load for someone under 14.
MiZZZike* 09-04-2005, 12:52 PM I'm 18 years old in Michigan, I play Midget AA (I think I'm one of, if not the oldest kid on the team), I skated with and made a Junior C team last year but I decided that I didn't wan't to do all the traveling up north and down south to Ohio, etc. I have a few friends who play Midget Major and I'm just as good as them, better than at least one. The problem is I didn't start playing organized ice hockey until I was 13, otherwise I think I could have possibly drafted by a Junior A team (I'm still young enough to maybe play there, but it's a longshot).
dbbourn 09-07-2005, 04:14 PM I'm 28 and play in a couple beer leagues full of ex-High School and Division III College players. I started playing on the ice 6 years ago and have been addicted since. I wish I started earlier, but I still enjoy every time I step on the ice. Our team has played some charity games against the NYC Fire Department, Port Authority Police Dept., and NJ Devils Alumni Team. (Daneyko didn't show) I know it is pretty lame compared to some of the other posters, but it is still hockey.
WhiskeyYourTheDevils 09-07-2005, 04:42 PM Im 19, i played midget AAA an junior B, but then i moved south when i was 17, so now, i play in a garbage adult inline hockey league and a terrible ice hockey league. The "A" level is like a "C" level up north. I was very quick and strong and scored alot, but i had back problems and then we moved, so no more hockey (atleast fastspeed hockey).
Martytoof 09-07-2005, 10:31 PM I play in Brandon, Florida, in an Adult 35+ B/C Rec League
Same, only I play Adult Beginner.
Accord 09-15-2005, 11:07 AM I no longer play at Glacier, i'm now playing in the PAHL adult league at Incredible Ice.
Stuart McDonald 09-18-2005, 02:08 PM I played Pee Wee BB (Centennials) in Dollard des Ormeaux Quebec when I was 12. It was the best travel team in my area. I sucked as a winger so they moved me to defence before I left.
A couple of my teammates went on to play for small Colleges in Vermont and New Hampshire. I went to Australia for four years just before my 13th birthday. Not a lot of hockey there. I'm still pissed about it and I'm almost 40.
I now play adult hockey 2-3 times a week or whenever I can. I also coached house league hockey for five years.
As a reporter I also covered the varsity hockey team for Niagara College in Welland Ontario for one year and the Niagara Falls Canucks Junior B team.
Dakota Sioux 09-18-2005, 04:49 PM I just got booted off Grand Forks Junior B for doing nothingThat would get most players booted if they did NOTHING.
Youreallygotme 09-19-2005, 12:42 AM That would get most players booted if they did NOTHING.
sorry just some poorly written sour grapes I deleted it.
scotiahockey 10-03-2005, 05:52 PM Well I am 27...Played hockey since I was 3: played 4 years for my high school despite my coach hating me): played 1 year of prep school : found out I was nothing but a goon, hey 117 PIMS in 20 games isn't bad... :)
hmmm.. 20 bucks eh???? =-)
teamstag 10-04-2005, 02:44 AM I'm 17 and I just play shinny on one of 2 outdoor rinks out here in Spruce Grove. I know lots of the older guys that play at this particular outdoor rink so that's why I go... and the ice is better ;)
I wish I played in a Rec League or something like that. That'd be amazing to me.

Rusty Shackleford 11-06-2005, 11:57 AM I play for the Greater Kingston Predators Bantam "A" team I am currently the 2nd line Centre but I am the best on our team at winning faceoffs so I take alot of big faceoffs, in close games or late in the game. I am currently 15 years of age.
Tuff Gong 11-06-2005, 09:45 PM Well in my prime i was on the Midget AAA club in kelowna, had a brief stint in Jungle B but nothing other than that.
Now im 20 and playing in a pretty intense mens league in Kelowna with an ex-WHLer, and numerous Jun A and B players so its pretty decent hackey
buckyhockey8 11-07-2005, 04:47 PM I play adult rec in madison,WI. It's quite a blast.
GameFace247SON 11-14-2005, 11:46 AM I play in an ice hockey rink league in Oaks, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 min outside of Philadelphia. I'm 23, never played ice hockey before, only roller. Last game we won 6-4, my line was +5!!
badfish 11-14-2005, 07:46 PM played in the same little town my whole life in a small community in northern ontario
i currently play in a new league set up, for V.E. Dragons. We're a fairly good team with a record of 8-1-0 GF: 57 GA: 14
Joe Cole 11-23-2005, 02:26 PM I started skating at 2 1/2. I played until Midget AA. I was a first year player and got suspended in the first week of the season. I said "to hell with this" and concentrated on school instead. I was a pretty tough D.
That was then...
Now I play in a Rec league in Montreal. I play LW with my two nephews in the GMHL. We play in a B type division. I could play higher if I switched back to D... but, I just wanna have fun with my two nephews. Nothing serious. I am a top 10 scorer at any given time, in a 10 team league. I have slowed down a lot (36 yrs) but I still know how to get in the clear and blast 'em home.
I would play everyday if I could.....
coyotesfan92 12-31-2005, 02:33 PM i play in sacramento california on a pwee a team (1st line, LW
BraveSirRobin 02-05-2006, 08:49 PM I'm a goalie on a club college hockey team (Cal St. University San Bernardino). We're more or less a beer league team, just with players who go to the school. I used to play Midget AA for the Riverside Desert Coyotes (SCAHA) a few years ago, which is the highest level I've played. I did try out for a Jr A team in Ontario, the Thornhill Islanders which was also a few years ago, but I sadly didn't make it.
chicagohockey 02-06-2006, 02:45 PM I'm retired from the game. Played High School AA n my earlier years.
I have to tell you though, I was watching some games in Orland Ill, just outside Chicago on the weekend and I'm amazed at the calibre of play these days. I watched this kid from Canada, who was playing for some team out of Green Bay Wisconsin. I had heard people talking about him at an earlier game and I had to go and see. Unbeleivable. A 13 year old boy could play like that. This kid is going to go places. I watched him skate and move the puck like no other kid out there. Eyes in the back of his head. Not sure why he's playing down here, but it was fun to watch him.

technophile 02-14-2006, 03:21 PM I just signed up for my first hockey league, the Chaparral Ice adult C league here in Austin. I'm kinda nervous. ;)
I've only been "playing" ice hockey (taking ice hockey lessons/scrimmaging) since March, but I played roller hocker for several years before that in St. Louis and Louisville.
MartinFr 02-16-2006, 03:03 PM I gave up to play hockey last year and I miss it like hell. Right now I have no idea why I gave up playing but I suppose I felt like I nobody in the team really liked me.
I started to play when I was 10 years old in IK Oskarshamn, a pretty well known team here in Sweden, the first team is a good team in Allsvenskan (the league below SEL). By then I'd loved hockey since the day I saw Mario Lemieux play, but since I started to play in a high age I was pretty unsure and shy, but I won my teams "honourprize" after my first season which really gave me a morale boost to continue.
The "prime" came when I was 14 years old and won a place in Thomas Steens hockeycamp during a cup, which was a really huge experience, some of those I played with there are among the top of the young players here in Sweden, and I was really proud to be a part of it, though I was lightyears behind them in like every aspect of the game.
The same year my team started to play in a much better league than before, we played against the best teams here in southern Sweden, such as Frölunda, HV71, Linköping which was very cool. After two years in that league with pretty bad results I gave up to play the game and today I must say that I regret it. Today I'm 16 years old (17 in may.) :handclap:
I play in a co-ed rec blacktop hockey league. It is pretty competitive, with 16 teams, many of which have been around and established for years. The skill level ranges all over the place. Some people have never held a hockey stick in their life and just kinda wave it around. But there are also guys that have played Canadian major juniors, NCAA and competitive prep school, and a couple former AHL/IHL guys. Interestingly, there used to be a strong contingent of guys who were champion floorball players in the Czech Republic and there's one guy who is joing the US National floorball team as well. But for the most part it's people who just enjoy playing a lot, and have fun.
Shibster31 02-21-2006, 04:22 PM I play for Vancouver Minor's Midget AAA team.

Khris 04-16-2006, 03:43 PM I play floorhockey/floorball in Austria, my team's called "Team Fusion". I'm a goaltender (started out as a forward, but was converted into a fulltime goaltender, when our number one goaltender got injured and couldn't go on playing), but due to injury I've only played four matches this season (4 GP, GA 5, GAA 1.25, 1 SO). We play in an international league with teams from Hungary, Austria and Slovenia and we've just won our semifinal (against last years champion IBC Leoben, the team I played for last season). As a result of the fact that we're facing the Skofja Loka Spiders (Slovenian team) we're already Austrian champion and we'll battle for the international championship next Sunday.
I've also played for Team Austria (as forward and goaltender, my best game was against Georgia, I scored two goals and had one assist).
When I was younger (I'm 26 now) I wanted to play hockey, but they didn't want any girls on the team so I didn't get a chance to play. I got to know floorball while studying in Sweden and when I came back to Austria I searched for a team and decided to give it a shot. That was four years ago. Next winter I'll finally get a chance to play hockey, too, not as a forward like I wished when I was a kid, but as a goaltender. I'm looking forward to it.

Buttonwood 07-20-2006, 08:49 PM What BCHL team are you playing for?

StanJohns 07-21-2006, 02:09 PM i am 45 years old, and play hockey in Oakland at the OIC
i grew tired of listening to young kids and their talking......so i left the division i was playing in, and joined the over 40.
good hockey, 6 pretty evenly matched teams.....lotta guys ive skated with and against for years....
The league commissioner was Andre LaCroix, so 3 of the teams have WHA names, Blazers, Whalers, and our club the Aeros.
Andre left town to move back east, so we have a new guy who was drafted by the Isles, but never made the big league.
I used to play in San Jose, Belmont, Berkeley, and San Mateo.......
Adam91 07-22-2006, 01:29 AM Trail. I would have liked a bigger town with less travel but small town junior teams can be a blast too.

YoungJames 08-06-2006, 05:33 PM I play in the Finnish 3rd division, which, despite it's name, is the 5th highest men's level. We are a bunch of friends (20 guys) who have played junior-hockey together for several seasons, and know we have put up our own team. Should be fun.
pdxshark 08-15-2006, 12:20 AM been out of hockey for over 6 years (realized how long it had been when I came back and saw how old my tps contour pads looked:) ) Just started conditioning and getting my bearings again by going to sticktime at sherwood ice arena. I intend to play at valley ice arena at their sticktime because they actually do pickup games untill I feel i'm back to my old self again, then i'll go into whatever house leauge skill level i'm fit for. I'm a competitive player so if anyone in the area is looking for a goalie PM me. I'm just now getting back into shape and shaking the rust off but i'm not too shabby.
Portland, OR btw
Gino 14 08-24-2006, 08:48 AM I'm 47, been playing for about 5 years in the men's rec. league. Got started when my daughter wanted to join the town league and she wanted me to help her practice on our pond. Never skated much as a kid so I was pretty much a beginner. After that, I got hooked. I'm a D-man but have played some goalie when our regular goalie is out. I wish I'd picked this game up about 40 years earlier, great fun, great conditioning, good people. I now skate year round and even do a little roller hockey.

Sounds like me (except for the goalie part) :)
I started skating when my son was 2 (I was 36). After he started playing at age 4 and I found out about this -> True North Hockey Beginner Info (https://www.truenorthhockey.com/pgs/registration/winter06_06/BeginnerInfo.shtml) I signed up for the Winter of 03/04 and have been playing winter and summer since. This upcoming winter I will be playing on two teams (sundays & mondays).

Niftygrl16 12-20-2006, 02:32 PM I started playing organized hockey about 5 years ago at age 33. Being a female, we didn't really have the opportunity to play organized hockey when I was a kid. Luckily I had an older brother and a bunch of ponds around the neighborhood.

Hockey is the most fun and the best sport I have ever played!!! I play year round taking advantage of "camps" in the spring and summer.

12 oz Papa* 01-16-2007, 04:57 PM My name is Mike. I play roller hockey in an adult rec league at Anaheim Hockey Club. I'm 19 and my team name is "His Nibs". We lost our first game 7 - 0. We need a lot of work. I think we're in the lowest division too, but hey, it was fun. We play every Wednesday.
Been playing since I was 5 or 6, still have never played ice hockey but wish to one day learn how to...
Some interesting stories here.
I currently play for the Sicamous Eagles of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. A team in which the likes of Shea Weber, Kris Beech, Cody Franson, Andrew Kozek, Brady Calla, and others have all played for.
Great organization. Hoping to land a scholarship, or something to a Division III school in the United States somewhere.

The WHL bantam draft picks guys at 15. Some of them are 14, though, because of the date of the draft. This year, players born in 1992 will be selected.

If you don't mind getting on the PATH or you have a car there's a good rink in Hoboken, between 1st and 2nd Streets on Adams Street. I used to play in a league there. Haven't been there in a few years but there always used to be pickup games on the weekends and sometimes after work during the week.

I play in a weekly roller hockey pickup game. We usually play 3 games to 5 goals. In my best game ever I had 2g, 2a and 2 blocked shots. Usually I score about 1g, 2-3a per night (over the course of 3 games).
I'm not good, but I have a ton of fun. And I'm in much better shape than I used to be.

As for my skill eh, I'm as fast and as strong as any Div. 1 college player but I can't finish, my shot usually sucks and I have no vision. Hockey is just a hobby.

The biggest mistake people make when they see me is they assume I'm a big guy (by no means fat) who can't skate. While I may not be the prettiest skater, I'll beat 'em to the puck most of the time. If that fails, I can muscle them off it. (Playing D III college football had its perks)

Most GA in a season: it's a funny story, back in about 7th grade, we had a dick referee and he made our goalie come out because he didn't have a mouthguard and I had to play goalie for like 2 minutes while the assistant coach ran to the pro shop and got him a mouthguard. I actually had to make a save, and I did. The other coach got so pissed off his team couldn't score. Looking back on it, the goalie should have given me his gloves blocker and stick, but we weren't thinking, well we were thinking oh ****.
Most pts. in a season-For the team we had an undefeated 3-3 team in 8th grade in the spring. For me, one year I think in MSAA I had like 10-12 goals and 15ish assists.

Finally started playing Ice hockey and loving it. Still defining what kind of player I am, right now I have a definitave skating advantage over most of my competition, while my positioning, shot, and passing is good, and stickhandling mediocre. I'd say I should have a few more points but my teams really been snake bitten the last two games, with only 1 goal (mine) on a ton of chances.
NYIslanders587 07-03-2008, 09:59 PM I haven't skated since I was in 1st grade I feel so deprived. Maybe I'll try in college to start skating again.

Heat McManus 07-06-2008, 08:02 PM I also have one game played in Chelsea Piers in NY, NY ^^
I was there for this game and it was one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed in my entire life. For those of you who don't have access to Swedish TV, these guys are incredible troopers.
Imagine average players facing off against the Red Wings in a friendly match-up. After 10 minutes you're down 7-0. Ok, we're having fun....Then your team captain tells Nik Lidstrom to get the boys to hit you as hard as possible.
Some of these guys could barely skate and they were getting hit full-force by guys who had played Div I and some at lower level pro.
ironically, the only injury came from one guy on the Chelsea Piers team who tore his MCL giving a hit.
Matti, I give you guys a TON of credit. Hope it made for good TV as well.
As for me, I play at Chelsea Piers, pick-up mostly. Don't know if I'll play much more because my knee is pretty tore up.
Most I've ever scored in a game: 4 goals in a league game. I spit hot fire!

Actually, we had an injury as well. Keto, the guy with long black hair got hit against the boards with his head down and got black outs every time he bent his head (meaning he had to sleep sitting down).

He seemed alright a couple of weeks later at least. Haven't heard from him lately so hard to know. He has some weird disease that will have him almost completly paralyzed before his 40s, dunno if it has started yet etc.
