Hello all;

My name is Chris and I'm from Canada. I'm trying to plan a trip to Russia in either January or February to take in some Russian Super League games. Does anyone know of any good English websites with the league's schedule and standings?

Otherwise, can anyone pass on any advice for what teams I should try and see and what I can expect? I'd appreciate any information or advice on the league and travelling in Russia that you can think of!

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Have you been invited to Russia? Cause you can't just decide to drop in for a visit, I was told that you can still get in but that it will cost more. Someone else can offer better info though since I'm going off what a friend told me, she lives in Moscow.

I've made visa arrangements through the Russian Consulate here in Canada and it's going to cost less than $200 Cdn. You certainly don't just drop in, but if you plan a month or two ahead of time you can pretty much travel anywhere in Russia for up to 30 days.

Man I'm sorry to say that, but Russia is nothing like Canada or the US or Western Europe. This country sucks, they don't have a Superleague webiste like the NHL, and there's no sites like TSN, ESPN or CNN to get hockey info. I think you can't even buy hockey tickets online. They only thing to do is go to the club's arena and buy the tickets there.

Hmm ... What do you think about this one ?
http://kontrmarka.ru/cgi/repertuar.pl?type=6 There is information about sport tickets im my area. I use this one. There are another sites, but I haven't used their services:
http://www.foota.ru/
http://www.sport-tiket.ru/
http://www.sport-bilet.ru/

There are sites only I know.

Thanks for the info, rushockey.com was exactly the kind of site I was looking for. To be honest, I don't mind that it's not as organized as it is in North America or Western Europe (I travelled around Sweden and watched games earlier this month), that's part of the allure of going.

For those of you who follow the league in Russia, how are the NHLers being received? Is there more interest because of them or is this season just like other ones before it? Is anyone upset that the players coming over from North America are taking jobs from young Russian players?

One more question -- on rushockey.com, it lists games on the schedule for 11-24 (tonight) as follows:

Lada - Ak Bars

When this is the case, which team is playing at home (the one listed first or second)?

Thanks again to everybody for their patience and help.

dude, i wish i could follow the RSL games here in Canada, thing is I probably need to get a dish for that; which is highly impossible due to lack of time to watch it, costs of getting, installing, maintaing and watching it.

From what I've seen/read/heard the russian "legionnaires" from the NHL
are doing well at home. They are in different competetive teams and racking some good numbers in terms of point production.

have no idea if there is more interest, I can imagine for it to be the case, but russian hockey fans are a consistent bunch so regardless of influx of the NHL players they are following the sport.

though watching Jagr playing in your hometown would be a factor :)

For sure. Does the league generally have a big following?

Hockey has been a prominent sport from the times of Soviet domination starting in the 60ss.

Certainly, soccer is a bigger sport (go figure), but cities that have teams in general enjoy a good crowd of loyal hockey fans and amateur players.

For sure. Does the league generally have a big following?

Season is doing great. I'm watching Dynamo vs. CSKA game right now: Havlat, Datsyuk, A.Markov, Ovechkin (Chubarov, Afinogenov and Bartecko are on IL :( ) Vs. Zherdev, Frolov, Nikolishin, Strbak and great group of young players:
Mirnov, Evseev, Rylov, I. Nikulin vs. A. Nikulin, Parshin, Ogorodnikov, Kulyash, Anshakov. You could follow prospects or NHLers - 2 in 1 ;)

RSL has excellent rule. There must be 2 young guys with 84 year of birth or earlier in every team squad for each game. I absolutely love this rule. So there could be team with all NHLers in their rosters but they must have 2 young guys. Look at Ak Bars - Despite all this signings they have Denisov, Korneev, Pervyshin, Lisin, Platonov on their roster ;) They all played in last game except Korneev.

Miraflores, Metallurg Mg has online Internet broadcast of their home games but they have troubles now + 7TV is broadcasting some Spartak Moscow home games. RTR has 3 years exclusive contract for TV broadcast of all teams. Of course local TV channels has rights for local teams.

Did they say why Korneev didn't play. He's missed the last 2 games, and I just wondering if he's injured or just not playing. I got 2 AK Bars on tape from last month and he seemed to be playing well. But then the NHL signings picked up and I started to think his ice time will be cut by a wide margin.

On a map, I've been able to locate each of the team's homes except Toliatti Lada and Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik. Can someone please tell me what part of the country these teams play in?

Also, I'm interested in hearing which teams you think I definitely should go see. Who is supported really well? Where are the best places to see games?

As always, thanks for the help in advance.

I always was under the impression Togliatti was a suburb of Moscow. Doing a google search on it, all I'm coming up with are mail order bride sites.

Tume

Togliatti is a city in Samara region, about 300km south from Kazan. (Togliatti doesn't sound very Russian, but there's a good explanation for that. It was renamed after Palmiro Togliatti, leader of Italian communists.)

Niznekamsk is a city in Tatarstan region, about 150km east from Kazan.

I would say you MUST visit Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl home games. The support there is seems to be the best. And the quality of these teams is also very good. Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Ak Bars (with all their NHL-stars) are also teams to watch.

I have been looking for a site that covers that league too. But here's a few links I came across. (in Russian only)

For a translation site, I use this-

I have been trying hard to find info on Vityaz Chekhov (the team Philly's Danny Markov signed with, but it seems they don't have an official website.)
