Simple, unscientific question: Who do you want to win the Stanley Cup? It could be your favorite team, it could be who you like in lieu of your team being out of it, or whatever. It doesn't matter, the poll is just for fun and to see where the allegiances lie.
I am starting this thread before the seeds are finalized since we know who is in, and chances are, seeding won't faze you in your choice anyway. And don't mind the order; I went by the standings entering Friday and just went down the list, from East to West.
Poll closes on Wednesday, April 11.
danishh 04-06-2012, 07:56 PM I have the pens as the favorites, but it really depends on how healthy they are coming out of what should be a brutal first round.

Sid is scoring/putting up helpers/getting points, Malkin's been an inhuman beast all year, and Fleury's been overall quite solid. Still, our defense worries me. Particularly Paul Martin and Orpik.
That and well Uncle Gary knows that after all the bullying and namecalling we've endured in the past week or so, a nice shiny silver Cup is just what we need to cheer up. :sarcasm:

Fortunately, there are other positions in the NHL than Center. Pitt's wingers are weaker than the best teams, D isn't playing well and Fleury seems to be shaky lately.
We'll see how it goes, but Pitt doesn't scare me.

The Kings in a surprise. They will play the Flyers who will dispatch the Pens in the first round, then beat Boston in 7 and finally the Rangers in the ECF.
I hope I'm wrong though. :)
drs151 04-06-2012, 11:46 PM I pick Pittsburgh. I just think Sid and Geno are going to be on another level. In a year where Crosby was injured for most of it, he is still going to get some individual hardware.

jbean 04-07-2012, 12:46 AM Detroit and Chicago are the only teams I think can take the Canucks out of the west, with the outside chance of Nashville or St. Louis. I think they're a strong pick to make it to the finals, but the Rangers, Bruins, Pens, or Flyers would all give them a hell of a series.
It's going to be a great playoffs, too bad the west is just a little weaker than it usually is this year.
My pick would be the Penguins. Two best players in the world and great role players. Malkin and Syd are better than any player on the Canucks and I think the Penguins might have better all round depth too (Staal, Neal, etc.). I would take Fleury over Luongo as well, who is younger but has more experience in playoff runs. If I'm a Canucks fan I would hope for a bloodbath of a Flyers/Pens series.
Killem Dafoe 04-07-2012, 01:14 AM lol St. Louis really only has 8 votes?
unifiedtheory 04-07-2012, 01:18 AM He is talking about this year bud.Heard the same thing last year.
My favorite was "Dennis Seidenberg would not even crack our top 6 defenseman".
On topic, like I said I'm going with the homer pick. It's tough though.
The East is top heavy. Penguins, Flyers, Rangers and my darkhorse, the Devils. If Marty has a run in him they will be VERY dangerous. The Penguins are built for the playoffs, as are the Rangers and the Bruins. The Flyers may have goaltending issues and I think they are too young.
I see flawed teams in the West. The Canucks' defense is porous and their offense is inconsistent. The Blues are built for the playoffs but not battle tested. The Wings can't win on the road. The 'Hawks are thin and they lack some grit. The Predators might lack scoring. The Coyotes could scare someone if Mike Smith stays hot. Honestly, the LAST team I'd want to play if I am a fan of a Western team is the Kings. They have been scoring a little, they have toughness and grit and Jon Quick can stand on his head. Whoever gets them is a hot week and a half away from getting bounced.
Coach Parker 04-07-2012, 01:20 AM After seeing Chicago and Boston win it in Original Six fashion, it will be San Jose or Nashville with the Cup.

poetryinmotion 04-07-2012, 01:24 AM Detroit for me.
Coach Parker 04-07-2012, 01:26 AM Or the Original Six streak continues with New York this year, Detroit next year, Toronto the year after and Montreal to finish the cycle and the HF Boards explode.
There is actually a 25% chance of an Original Six winning, with the odds probably slightly better than that considering how good Boston, New York, Chicago and Detroit were this season.
I wonder what kind of odds my buddies would give me on the Original Six teams?

I don't understand, why do people keep going back to this game? Have the Red Wings never lost to the Blue Jackets? I'm NOT comparing the Flyers to the Jackets...but what I'm saying is that on any given day, one team can beat another.
poetryinmotion 04-07-2012, 02:01 AM lol St. Louis really only has 8 votes?
St Louis is baffling really. I see 2 huge red flags :
1. Solve their goaltenders and they are TOAST, I sure hope they decide to go with Halak instead of Elliot for their own good. But Halak is small and the Flyers broke him just by placing a big forward in front of him as screen. Interesting to see how that goes.
2. Putrid offense and I could go on about this but let's just put it this way: they only have two forwards up front that are over 50 points and one over 20 goals so I'll just leave it at that.
It's a miracle they are second in the west.
PG Canuck 04-07-2012, 02:03 AM Canucks because we have Cory ******* Schneider, the best non-starting goalie in the NHL backing up Lu. We're more deeper this year, and more experienced. We can play any type of game the opposition wants to play. We can shut down teams this year as we have Pahlsson who has been an absolute stud for us. Our defense will go back to it's normal pairings, and we're soon to have Ballard back, and quite frankly, I can't wait until he's back.
Doesn't change the fact I think Pittsburgh is just as dangerous, but still going with the Canucks as a homer edge.
I don't think anyone should be surprised if an Eastern team wins the Cup again this year. The West is going to be a bloodbath and whoever represents the West in the SCF, will be bruised and beat up they may not put up much of a fight. That's just how competitive I think the West is.
Campoli2Burrows 04-07-2012, 02:06 AM Somebody from the west. The eastern teams are going to blow their loads ramping up the hate fest they have going over there (especially Pitt) and be worn out mentally by the finals. My money's on some underdog team out west riding good goaltending and system play all the way through June.
Nashville or St Louis, with LA being a dark horse.
I chose the team I follow even though I don't think they'll win. It kind of ruins the poll, but I think most will understand the reasoning behind the action. :)

abstrusezincate 04-07-2012, 10:34 AM The Penguins will either make the Stanley Cup Final or lose in the first round. Those teams will kick the crap out of each other in the first round leaving little left for a Cup run. Unless one takes out the other quickly, it will be really hard to muster another 3 rounds. Not saying it's impossible but 2 rivals paying each other in the first round as a 4-5 matchup is brutal.
I can see the Bruins repeating. Maybe a dark horse in Detroit.

I think it's actually important to their longterm chances that they do kick the crap out of each other. Teams that fight wars in the early round come into the Final combat-ready. Teams that roll over inferior competition get shocked by teams that have bled for each W.

Islander Prophet 04-07-2012, 01:15 PM If SJ can win their division (which I think they will) then they are my favorites
He is talking about this year bud.
He was saying the same last year, bud.
:sarcasm:
hankdank 04-07-2012, 01:40 PM Vancouver is the only one written in italics. Is this some sort of subtle brainwashing?
edit: Vancouver is also winning. I KNEW IT.
Random Oracle 04-07-2012, 01:42 PM Vancouver is the only one written in italics. Is this some sort of subtle brainwashing?
It means you voted for Vancouver.
hankdank 04-07-2012, 01:43 PM I feel dumb
New York Rangers.
Both my homer and realistic vote.
questhockey 04-07-2012, 01:54 PM Any team who clutches, grabs, mauls, obstructs, runs goalies and beats up on the other teams will win it all. As it should be in playoffs.
side note: The refs as usual will help determine who wins playoffs. Wonder who paid the most this year to the ref`s retirement fund. We`ll know soon enough.
QUACK ATTACK 04-07-2012, 02:05 PM I really like San Jose this year for some reason. Under the radar and no expectations from anyone. Maybe they can go into the playoffs relaxed for the first time in a long time.
asdfman 04-07-2012, 02:10 PM Homer voted
Non homer: Phoenix Coyotes
i want to see a team who's never won it win it. 7 teams in these playoffs have won it before... so there's a theoretical good chance a virgin team will win it.
Vyborny 04-07-2012, 02:28 PM Homer vote would be San Jose
Actually voted Pitt
InjuredChoker 04-07-2012, 02:39 PM I think this is getting a bit overblown. Pens played the Flyers in the first round in '09 and went on to win the cup.
I would suspect that this year it would be tougher series.
RJQuack 04-07-2012, 02:40 PM Pens over Nuckingtons
Random Oracle 04-07-2012, 02:42 PM I would suspect that this year it would be tougher series.
Tougher in terms of winning or physical toll? It's definitely not an easy series to win for the Pens, that's for sure.
I voted Nashville.
Good to see/surprised to see so many votes for the Preds.
courtcapsfan 04-07-2012, 02:46 PM C-a-p-s caps caps caps
The Head Crusher 04-07-2012, 02:48 PM I would love to see Nashville win the cup this year.
Mojo Risin* 04-07-2012, 02:49 PM When you actually read this thread, the poll results are shocking. Probably just alot of Canucks fans voting.
I'll say Flyers.
ayoshi 04-07-2012, 02:51 PM lol @ Canuck fans choosing Vancouver :D
Random Oracle 04-07-2012, 02:53 PM lol @ Canuck fans choosing Vancouver :D
The OP's question is who do we want to win the Stanley Cup. It's not a huge surprise that they would pick their own team.
ayoshi 04-07-2012, 02:53 PM When you actually read this thread, the poll results are shocking. Probably just alot of Canucks fans voting.

Should say "Pick you SC winner *if* your team didn't/couldn't win it"
ayoshi 04-07-2012, 02:55 PM The OP's question is who do we want to win the Stanley Cup. It's not a huge surprise that they would pick their own team.
Oh ok, I was just going off the thread title, which is more like who do you think is going to win it.
Dammit, I voted for Pittsburgh
hankdank 04-07-2012, 03:01 PM The OP's question is who do we want to win the Stanley Cup. It's not a huge surprise that they would pick their own team.
Even if it wasn't, I'm not sure how the team that might win the President's trophy again, and was in the finals last year would be a bad choice (referring the the original comment)
LickTheEnvelope 04-07-2012, 03:03 PM I picked the Sens because I like them. :)
Wouldn't mind the Blues winning either if the Nucks can't get it done this year.
Captain Saku 04-07-2012, 03:32 PM This might be the hardest year to pick the stanley cup winner since the lockout.
I like all teams chances. The top 3 favorites IMO are: Pittsburgh, Nashville, Vancouver.
I voted for Pittsburgh, they're the most complete team and have the experience.
Canucks? In your dreams.
Voted for Flyers even though it might be long shot.

as for me i pick Pittsburgh just because of the "Crosby effect."
Cashville 04-07-2012, 04:03 PM Flyers
Hope the SCF team from the West is us though
Fenza 04-07-2012, 05:12 PM I picked Detroit before the season started, not switching now.
Crows* 04-07-2012, 05:51 PM How about a final of the last 2 runners up? Philly vs van that was supposed to happen last year.
I actually think the pens are the favorites.
JumpierPegasus 04-07-2012, 05:52 PM Canuck vs Pens final would be amazing. I would love to watch that
I must say, i'm surprised Canucks are #1 on this poll. Not that i disagree necessarily. Maybe disproportionate amount of Nucks fans voting? Agree with Pittsburgh strong numbers, bit surprised Bruins don't have more votes though.
Big fat dad 04-07-2012, 06:02 PM Can I not vote cause I'm a rookie? :(
When will this rookie status end?
Big fat dad 04-07-2012, 06:03 PM I must say, i'm surprised Canucks are #1 on this poll. Not that i disagree necessarily. Maybe disproportionate amount of Nucks fans voting? Agree with Pittsburgh strong numbers, bit surprised Bruins don't have more votes though.
Was thinking the same thing exactly. :handclap:
Mitch44Leafs 04-07-2012, 06:04 PM I think the Predators will win it. Very good solid defensive team. They will surprise this year
sensfan191919 04-07-2012, 07:41 PM honestly if the sens won the cup id be super happy but that is probably not gonna happen this year :p im placing my bets on the pens this year.

Victory5 04-07-2012, 07:44 PM Pittsburgh and Vancouver are the most popular......again.
Robbler 04-07-2012, 07:47 PM Detroit and when they get eliminated idgaf who wins. My team or bust.
Lux Aurumque* 04-07-2012, 08:16 PM Vancouver. Their only weakness is Luongo. Thankfully, they have Schneider.
RespectYourEdlers 04-07-2012, 08:23 PM Vancouver. Their only weakness is Luongo. Thankfully, they have Schneider.
Exactly...Luongo knows whats at stake if he falters this year
Which is why he will step his game up and win the Conn Smythe this year
thepuckmonster 04-07-2012, 08:24 PM Vancouver. Their only weakness is Luongo. Thankfully, they have Schneider.
Mostly correct.
We're missing our top goal scorer and up until last game, our leading TOI defense man, and won 7 in a row.
Powerplay still sucks though, part of me is hoping they're deliberately ******** it up to confuse teams, but that's a stretch.
Luongo will either win the Conn Smythe this year or Schneider solidifies that he's our bonafide starter moving forward. Both are good situations to be in. Makes the days of Auld / Weekes / Cloutier seem so long ago.
EdmOil63* 04-07-2012, 08:32 PM Canuck fans say it every year that it is there year... Go Pittsburgh
VeteranNetPresence 04-07-2012, 08:43 PM i think it'l be pittsburgh but i hope not

Canucks against either team would be a lot of fun. A lot of fun.
CASUAL KEV 04-07-2012, 09:00 PM Pittsburgh
Machinehead 04-07-2012, 09:40 PM Should be closer than this. This is pretty ridiculous.
Megadelphia 04-07-2012, 09:58 PM Philadelphia because I'm huge homer :D
Net Front Presence 04-07-2012, 10:04 PM Canucks over Pittsburgh in 7.

Wow.
How far have you fallen so fast.....:amazed:
76ftw 04-07-2012, 10:34 PM Flyers or Nucks.
ChuckW 04-07-2012, 10:46 PM Please, anybody but the Canucks, Red Wings, or Devils.
Captain Saku 04-07-2012, 10:53 PM Pittsburgh and Vancouver are the most popular......again.
This is funny though because they're probably the most 2 hated teams on HFBoards lately.
I would love to see a Pittsburgh - Vancouver final though.
RyK15* 04-07-2012, 11:01 PM LMAO at the small number of votes the Flyers and Rangers are getting.
Machinehead 04-07-2012, 11:55 PM LMAO at the small number of votes the Flyers and Rangers are getting.
Looking at these results you'd think the Pens and Canucks are both 79-3
WingsFan95 04-08-2012, 12:52 AM Nucks fans overflow.
The Leviathan 04-08-2012, 12:53 AM Thread title misleading based upon what the question really is.
I'd like to see Boston repeat, however I believe Pittsburgh will ultimately come out on-top.
WPGFAN 04-08-2012, 12:57 AM Sadly, Vancouver
I cannot see anyone beating them 4 out of 7 times
I agree as well. They would have to choke, have a complete melt down and have Luongo and Schneider play poorly for them to not win the cup this year. They're a lock to win it all.
HawkinMI 04-08-2012, 12:57 AM The Nashville Predators.
Reparlana 04-08-2012, 12:58 AM I agree with Vancouver damn...
I will stick with my team and pick the Phoenix Coyotes.
IcedCapp 04-08-2012, 01:04 AM Looking at these results you'd think the Pens and Canucks are both 79-3
agreed, only a team with a record of 79-3 could be considered a favorite going into the playoffs.
Spawnisen 04-08-2012, 04:48 AM Sadly pens
John Swartzwelder 04-08-2012, 05:27 AM I dont understand is this the team we hope to win or who think will win i thought its who we think will win i voted pottsbaerg
ChuckW 04-08-2012, 06:32 AM There are so many teams I hate in this year's playoffs. :(
KingKane88 04-08-2012, 06:48 AM Looking at the numbers, this is nothing but a FAN/Homer poll, simply rediculous!
Van winning the Cup at 165 pick??? Simply laughable!
JanelL79 04-08-2012, 06:53 AM Bruins knock out Penguins in a hard fought game 7 where Cooke suffers a major concussion by getting ran over by Sidney Crosby. Bruins then go on and win the Stanley Cup vs. Vancouver, in game 7 in Vancouver. Burrows looses a finger. Chara bites it off. Lucic's gf gives Schneider's gf a black eye and shows her who the real trucker is.
Random Oracle 04-08-2012, 07:33 AM Looking at the numbers, this is nothing but a FAN/Homer poll, simply rediculous!
I take it you didn't read the OP? The question was "Who do you want to win the Stanley Cup?".
Uncle Howie 04-08-2012, 08:35 AM I agree as well. They would have to choke, have a complete melt down and have Luongo and Schneider play poorly for them to not win the cup this year. They're a lock to win it all.
Hey, they chocked pretty hard last year with a 2-0 series lead in the finals.... could easily happen again.
hockeypuck2012 04-08-2012, 09:25 AM Canucks :yo:
SensFanDan 04-08-2012, 09:52 AM As long as the Canucks, Sharks, Penguins and Rangers go down in flames I have no real preference.
VOted for St. Louis because I'd love for us to go into that grindy, stingy, defence-first attitude and we'd have no excuse for avoiding it...
Al Bundy* 04-11-2012, 06:59 PM Who do you think should be/is the favorite to hoist the Cup?
Defending champ Boston? High-seeds like Vancouver and the Rangers? The dangerous 4 seeds in Nashville and Pittsburgh?
Canuckaholic19 04-11-2012, 07:12 PM Gotta be Penguins. West is gonna be tougher to get out of so you gotta go with an Eastern Team to be the favourites, its really tough to repeat, No Horton for playoffs, Thomas less dominant. Rangers are inexperienced. Penguins all the way.
BCShark 04-11-2012, 07:15 PM nucks
KingCrosby 04-11-2012, 07:18 PM Hahaha... You watching this game.. PENS 16-0 IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!! There is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO way any1 will beat us!!!!!!!!
Campoli2Burrows 04-11-2012, 07:18 PM Well it was Pittsburgh going into the playoffs but after that first period they just played I'm not really sure anymore.

some_chick 05-09-2012, 06:44 PM Do people still do "bumps" of email threads? Not sure if it is "so 2007" or what.
Anyway, I'm bumping this since it's interesting to see how things turned out.

I cannot see anyone beating them 4 out of 7 times
How about 4 out of 5?
rajuabju 05-09-2012, 07:10 PM Pretty amazing to see this now. LA and PHX had the two lowest vote counts from the West.
Bumping this up for a fun retrospect, which shows 47 of 720 voters still have their pick alive, basically 6.5 percent of the voting base.
Ih8theislanders 05-27-2012, 05:48 PM Hahaha... You watching this game.. PENS 16-0 IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!! There is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO way any1 will beat us!!!!!!!!

Very neat to see that only 6.5% of the people still have their pick alive. :handclap:
MyersMagic57* 05-27-2012, 06:19 PM I love that the top two picks to win by far were both ousted in the first round. Not to mention, The Penguins probably had the poorest effort of all 16 teams this post season after being picked to win by most people. Gotta love the NHL!
Sh00terMcGavin 05-27-2012, 07:07 PM For everyone quoting that King Crosby guy, you do know he's a troll right? He posts in threads saying Crosby is better than Gretzky and Lemieux. Don't take his opinion seriously.
Beardacus 05-27-2012, 07:09 PM Definitely LA. :naughty:
Lshap 05-27-2012, 07:18 PM The East is top heavy.
This guy didn't go completely out on a limb, but he obviously picked up the right vibes. Full credit for some nifty predictions (even if he is a Bruins fan!).
Heard the same thing last year.
My favorite was "Dennis Seidenberg would not even crack our top 6 defenseman".
On topic, like I said I'm going with the homer pick. It's tough though.

KovalchukFistPump 05-27-2012, 07:44 PM Well I picked the Devils but that shouldn't really count

Jamie1987 05-27-2012, 08:02 PM I voted Philly, they have a young team and gained alot of experience, they'll be a top team next season
I didn't think the devils would make it past them but here we are
Megadelphia 05-27-2012, 08:04 PM I still don't understand so many people thought the Penguins would win the cup.
SweYote 05-27-2012, 09:19 PM Seems like I was one of the few non-Kings fans to pick them before the post season.
