Who is your pick to win the Stanley Cup?

Simple, unscientific question: Who do you want to win the Stanley Cup? It could be your favorite team, it could be who you like in lieu of your team being out of it, or whatever. It doesn't matter, the poll is just for fun and to see where the allegiances lie.

I am starting this thread before the seeds are finalized since we know who is in, and chances are, seeding won't faze you in your choice anyway. And don't mind the order; I went by the standings entering Friday and just went down the list, from East to West.

Poll closes on Wednesday, April 11.

I have the pens as the favorites, but it really depends on how healthy they are coming out of what should be a brutal first round.

I wouldn't be a true wing fan if I didn't vote for Detroit.

That being said, if we're out.. i would not mind seeing the Rangers win. Just not Boston or Pittsburgh.

Sid is scoring/putting up helpers/getting points, Malkin's been an inhuman beast all year, and Fleury's been overall quite solid. Still, our defense worries me. Particularly Paul Martin and Orpik.

I don't see the Canucks going back to the SCF, Kesler needs a healthy offseason off to work on his hip that's been bugging him all season, for that reason I don't see us going far, Kesler is the key for the Canucks. If Pens stay healthy then them.

Fortunately, there are other positions in the NHL than Center. Pitt's wingers are weaker than the best teams, D isn't playing well and Fleury seems to be shaky lately.

The Kings in a surprise. They will play the Flyers who will dispatch the Pens in the first round, then beat Boston in 7 and finally the Rangers in the ECF.

Detroit and Chicago are the only teams I think can take the Canucks out of the west, with the outside chance of Nashville or St. Louis. I think they're a strong pick to make it to the finals, but the Rangers, Bruins, Pens, or Flyers would all give them a hell of a series.

It's going to be a great playoffs, too bad the west is just a little weaker than it usually is this year.

My pick would be the Penguins. Two best players in the world and great role players. Malkin and Syd are better than any player on the Canucks and I think the Penguins might have better all round depth too (Staal, Neal, etc.). I would take Fleury over Luongo as well, who is younger but has more experience in playoff runs. If I'm a Canucks fan I would hope for a bloodbath of a Flyers/Pens series.

On topic, like I said I'm going with the homer pick. It's tough though.

The East is top heavy. Penguins, Flyers, Rangers and my darkhorse, the Devils. If Marty has a run in him they will be VERY dangerous. The Penguins are built for the playoffs, as are the Rangers and the Bruins. The Flyers may have goaltending issues and I think they are too young.

I see flawed teams in the West. The Canucks' defense is porous and their offense is inconsistent. The Blues are built for the playoffs but not battle tested. The Wings can't win on the road. The 'Hawks are thin and they lack some grit. The Predators might lack scoring. The Coyotes could scare someone if Mike Smith stays hot. Honestly, the LAST team I'd want to play if I am a fan of a Western team is the Kings. They have been scoring a little, they have toughness and grit and Jon Quick can stand on his head. Whoever gets them is a hot week and a half away from getting bounced.

After seeing Chicago and Boston win it in Original Six fashion, it will be San Jose or Nashville with the Cup.

Also, it looks like Boston gets to try and keep their streak alive as being the only team to knock out the Canadian teams. (Montreal -> Vancouver -> Ottawa?)

St Louis is baffling really. I see 2 huge red flags :

1. Solve their goaltenders and they are TOAST, I sure hope they decide to go with Halak instead of Elliot for their own good. But Halak is small and the Flyers broke him just by placing a big forward in front of him as screen. Interesting to see how that goes.

2. Putrid offense and I could go on about this but let's just put it this way: they only have two forwards up front that are over 50 points and one over 20 goals so I'll just leave it at that.

It's a miracle they are second in the west.

Canucks because we have Cory ******* Schneider, the best non-starting goalie in the NHL backing up Lu. We're more deeper this year, and more experienced. We can play any type of game the opposition wants to play. We can shut down teams this year as we have Pahlsson who has been an absolute stud for us. Our defense will go back to it's normal pairings, and we're soon to have Ballard back, and quite frankly, I can't wait until he's back.

Doesn't change the fact I think Pittsburgh is just as dangerous, but still going with the Canucks as a homer edge.

I don't think anyone should be surprised if an Eastern team wins the Cup again this year. The West is going to be a bloodbath and whoever represents the West in the SCF, will be bruised and beat up they may not put up much of a fight. That's just how competitive I think the West is.

Somebody from the west. The eastern teams are going to blow their loads ramping up the hate fest they have going over there (especially Pitt) and be worn out mentally by the finals. My money's on some underdog team out west riding good goaltending and system play all the way through June.

The Penguins will either make the Stanley Cup Final or lose in the first round. Philadelphia was the worst draw possible for them in terms of matchups, I think, and it will be a very tough series. But, if they get past them, I like them against the rest of the east. If Fleury plays well, the Pens will get through. If not, they won't.

As for the west, I really see it as wide open. I wouldn't be surprised to see any team make a run, but I have a feeling about the Kings for some reason.

I think Nashville chokes out everyone and wins a pile of 2-1, and 3-2 games, and takes the cup home this year.

Well obvious choice is Pittsburgh.

But judging on how the contenders played against my team when I watched them the most impressive were Boston (obviously) and Vancouver, both teams still looking really good. But **** them both.

I think it's actually important to their longterm chances that they do kick the crap out of each other. Teams that fight wars in the early round come into the Final combat-ready. Teams that roll over inferior competition get shocked by teams that have bled for each W.

I really like San Jose this year for some reason. Under the radar and no expectations from anyone. Maybe they can go into the playoffs relaxed for the first time in a long time.

Mostly correct.

We're missing our top goal scorer and up until last game, our leading TOI defense man, and won 7 in a row.

Powerplay still sucks though, part of me is hoping they're deliberately ******** it up to confuse teams, but that's a stretch.

Luongo will either win the Conn Smythe this year or Schneider solidifies that he's our bonafide starter moving forward. Both are good situations to be in. Makes the days of Auld / Weekes / Cloutier seem so long ago.

Pretty amazing to see this now. LA and PHX had the two lowest vote counts from the West.

Bumping this up for a fun retrospect, which shows 47 of 720 voters still have their pick alive, basically 6.5 percent of the voting base.

I love that the top two picks to win by far were both ousted in the first round. Not to mention, The Penguins probably had the poorest effort of all 16 teams this post season after being picked to win by most people. Gotta love the NHL!

The East is top heavy. Penguins, Flyers, Rangers and my darkhorse, the Devils. If Marty has a run in him they will be VERY dangerous. The Penguins are built for the playoffs, as are the Rangers and the Bruins. The Flyers may have goaltending issues and I think they are too young.

I see flawed teams in the West. The Canucks' defense is porous and their offense is inconsistent. The Blues are built for the playoffs but not battle tested. The Wings can't win on the road. The 'Hawks are thin and they lack some grit. The Predators might lack scoring. The Coyotes could scare someone if Mike Smith stays hot. Honestly, the LAST team I'd want to play if I am a fan of a Western team is the Kings. They have been scoring a little, they have toughness and grit and Jon Quick can stand on his head. Whoever gets them is a hot week and a half away from getting bounced.

This guy didn't go completely out on a limb, but he obviously picked up the right vibes. Full credit for some nifty predictions (even if he is a Bruins fan!).
