My theory is I think some producer at EA must love the Senators and demand they be overpowered. Last year when I was playing NHL 11, the Sens made it to the ECF, were down 3-1 in the series to the Bruins, and came back to win the series 4-3. But don't worry, I ultimately beat them in the SCF as the Canucks.

As I side note, I made Bure and he was on the Rangers. I miss Bure.

In NHL 07, the Flames were a super awesome team. I was about to get swept by them when game 4 of the SCF went into OT. Kipper went extremely far out to play the puck and was pick pocketed by Shanahan. He scored, we came back, and denied Calgary in Game 7. Good times.

Has this ever happened? I know Ottawa got swept twice when they were the second seed in '99 and '01 and Detroit got swept by the Ducks in '03 but has an 8 ever swept a 1?

I'm kind of torn. A Preds sweep would be awesome. Getting out of this series with Detroit in the fewest number of games possible could go a long way for success in the later rounds.

BUT the Preds just aren't a very good team when they get a lot of time off between games. I think if this were to actually happen the Preds would go into the PHX and lose the first game.

Rads getting three goals in four games would be sweet, though

EDIT:

And yes as was mentioned i'm not "playing" the games but they are being "played" by the AI... as in I am not just quick simming through.

Main reason for this is that I find the quick simming to basically just randomly pick a team to win, where-as the "more skilled" team seems to have a better chance if the game is played out.

You know how long it would take to watch every one of those games? Doubt anyone has that much time on their hands lol

That's still below where he should be. IMO he's the best d-man on the team.

Got to remember Staal is also 82 and a lot of good d-men in the game are rated 80-84 ... and 'poise' makes a massive difference, usually based off how many playoff games they have actually played.

I wanted to get it done before the playoffs start.

If I had done it on 20 minute periods the first round probably wouldn't be done until the actual first round was almost over.

EDIT:

Also round two is taking slightly longer than I thought it would due to 3 game 7's.

Washington beating Boston and Nashville sweeping Detroit is enough of a reason to laugh at these simulations.

Usually simulations are run multiple times (a decent sample size for this would probably be in the 100's) as running just 1 simulation is subject to so much random chance that the results are only marginally reliable.

Can I consider the Blues to be official underdogs vs the more experienced Sharks now?

I think the NYR and Blues are not well accounted for with the numerical player stats the game uses. Team play is their forte, and NHL12 just doesn't model that very well.

Washington beating Boston and Nashville sweeping Detroit is enough of a reason to laugh at these simulations.

Yeah.....kinda reminds me of that ridiculous NHL '10 simulation when 5 out of the first 6 Eastern Conference playoff series were won by the underdogs, and a Flyers team that only got into the playoffs by winning a shootout in their final regular season game not only advanced all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, but overcame a 3-0 deficit along the way.

Completely laughable outcome that would never happen in reality......

.......oh wait, that was REALITY!

Obviously the OP and everyone knows that this isn't all going to go down exactly as in the simulation, but half the fun of playoff hockey is that it can be as absurdly unpredictable as any video game simulation, if not even more so.

You could run 200,000 simulations of the Stanley Cup Finals matchup, think you've got all realistic possible outcomes covered......and then somebody goes and bites another player's finger and suddenly all heck breaks loose.

So to recap......

Sharks blow series leads of 2-0 and 3-1

Sharks manage to score only 1 goal in the final 2 games/~8 periods of hockey (OT Game 5, Game 6, Game 7 + OT)

and Sharks choke away Game 7 after leading with under a half minute to go.......

Seriously.........This might be the most realistic/accurate outcome from a video game simulation I've ever seen!

It's like the A.I. engine has been following the Sharks for years, critically understands them, and has learned everything it possibly could about them.

Come to think of it, it's actually quite terrifying just how much that A.I. actually seems to know about them.

I might have to write a letter to EA Sports to stop giving that program more information before it eventually becomes sentient and rapidly learns how to enslave us all.

Just look at how knowledgeable and intuitive it already is!

Luongo pulled mid-series, and then re-inserted later
Pavelski leading the charge early in the series
Marleau getting white hot with 4 goals in 5 games before completely disappearing
Niemi getting lit up for 3 quick goals against in at least two (and possibly 3) of the games
Couture the lone Shark able to score over the final two games
.....and Joe Thornton absolutely nowhere to be found on the goal scoring sheet.

i was playing last night on nhl 12. i was using canucks

nucks vrs l.a=7games van won kesler was specutacular.
2nd round=nucks/sharks a sweep. srsly. s.j was weak. all one goal games and some ot.

3rd round=chicago had a 3-0 series lead. i simulated and there were some injuries. bieska hurt for 3 weeks. put schiends in for game 5 won. then put luongo in. game 6 at the united center blew chicago out of the water. 8-1 booth/kesler leading the way.

4th round rematch against boston..... they had a 3-1 series lead. put schiends in game 5. won it. then game 7 came luongo in. van won 6-2 therefore winning the cup.

leading scorers were kesler with 22 pts. booth with 18. then daniel then burrows. the third line was really good. pahulsson had 6 goals=12pts, hansen 5 goals. higgins 4.

Although I like the fact that the Canucks got to Game 7 again I don't think I would be able to take another loss.

You wont like how it happened.

I think the shots were about 32-15 for the Canucks...

At least we got 2 goals on 32 shots instead of last year's 0 goals on 38 shots.

Orpik with two goals in the Finals, Crosby and Malkin with none.

I'll take it!

The Caps are too beastly in the NHL games. I wouldn't mind if this prediction came true.
PS - Just noticed Orpik getting some clutch goals....cue the 2012-2013 Rock Richard Watch :sarcasm:

Yup. That and Mike Smith's 3 games + 2 period shut-out streak have been the most bizarre things so far.

Didn't Giguere do something like that with the ducks in 03? I think they swept the the wings that year.

I don't even think the final 4 is "that" crazy. How they got there might be but I could see Van/Nas, Pit/NJ

The simulation mentioned here for last year (www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=559404), was exactly right on the finals, number of games, and winner--and as wrong as it could be on everything else (and still get the same two SCF opponents). Fun stuff!
