My theory is I think some producer at EA must love the Senators and demand they be overpowered. Last year when I was playing NHL 11, the Sens made it to the ECF, were down 3-1 in the series to the Bruins, and came back to win the series 4-3. But don't worry, I ultimately beat them in the SCF as the Canucks.
As I side note, I made Bure and he was on the Rangers. I miss Bure.

In NHL 07, the Flames were a super awesome team. I was about to get swept by them when game 4 of the SCF went into OT. Kipper went extremely far out to play the puck and was pick pocketed by Shanahan. He scored, we came back, and denied Calgary in Game 7. Good times.

LickTheEnvelope 04-09-2012, 03:06 AM Oh if only the Sharks/Blues series happens minus Burns getting injured.
Wow, four shutouts for Mike Smith!
Actually 3 in a row to close the series... he went 2 more periods in round 2 game 1 against the Preds then got lit up in the 3rd...
Will post 2nd round later tomorrow... err... today..
MurrayBannerman 04-09-2012, 06:55 AM For some reason in this game, I could have the best team ever, but the only rounds I could get sweeps in are the 1st and SCF.
Muppet 04-09-2012, 07:03 AM Haha, it's a shame NHL12 is absolutely terrible. I wouldn't mind Smith's three consecutive shutouts coming true, though. :D
EliasFTW 04-09-2012, 07:42 AM At least i get my wish of playing the caps
Ill Dangle For You 04-09-2012, 07:54 AM you shouldnt really play (depending on how good/bad you are). Simming is the fair way to go

I don't think he's playing them. When he says "Game's are actually being played", he means that he's not doing a quick sim. He's actually watching the games being played by the AI.

gotcha:laugh:
because if someone is really good or bad they will win/lose the series haha
SwedeSpeedBackstrom 04-09-2012, 08:21 AM An 8 seed sweeping a 1 seed would be epic, hope the playoffs actually go this way.
Classless Manked 04-09-2012, 09:08 AM LAWL at Sens sweep.
They suck man.
hockeykid87 04-09-2012, 09:21 AM Hank Sedin kills the Kings again haha.
I did this same type of thing yesterday, I did it once with Luongo starting, lost in the 2nd round to the Sharks.
Did it again with Schneider starting, Canucks went 16-4 to win the cup.
Controversy
KovalchukFistPump 04-09-2012, 09:26 AM An 8 seed sweeping a 1 seed would be epic, hope the playoffs actually go this way.
Has this ever happened? I know Ottawa got swept twice when they were the second seed in '99 and '01 and Detroit got swept by the Ducks in '03 but has an 8 ever swept a 1?
hockeyr5 04-09-2012, 09:55 AM Looks like a good first round to me!
ThirdManIn 04-09-2012, 09:59 AM I'm kind of torn. A Preds sweep would be awesome. Getting out of this series with Detroit in the fewest number of games possible could go a long way for success in the later rounds.
BUT the Preds just aren't a very good team when they get a lot of time off between games. I think if this were to actually happen the Preds would go into the PHX and lose the first game.
Rads getting three goals in four games would be sweet, though
Deku Scrub 04-09-2012, 10:18 AM Man that Sens sweep would be amazing  Game 3 sounded really entertaining.
Hank Sedin kills the Kings again haha.

Glad I'm not the only one that saw this  I was like EVEN IN THE VIDEO GAME GO AWAY!
thepuckmonster 04-09-2012, 10:40 AM Can we swap out another player instead of Higgins getting injured?
Even in Sims we can't escape bad injuries. :shakehead:
PHX /CHI has me laughing pretty good... 6 game series with 5 shutouts!
jbeck5 04-09-2012, 11:54 AM Haha, it's a shame NHL12 is absolutely terrible. I wouldn't mind Smith's three consecutive shutouts coming true, though. :D
I'd agree with you if there was anything close to being a better game...
LickTheEnvelope 04-09-2012, 12:09 PM Hank Sedin kills the Kings again haha.

Luongo pulled in round two also.
EDIT:
And yes as was mentioned i'm not "playing" the games but they are being "played" by the AI... as in I am not just quick simming through.
Main reason for this is that I find the quick simming to basically just randomly pick a team to win, where-as the "more skilled" team seems to have a better chance if the game is played out.
LickTheEnvelope 04-09-2012, 12:12 PM Can we swap out another player instead of Higgins getting injured?
Even in Sims we can't escape bad injuries. :shakehead:
Actually Higgins was okay for round two in the game. Or at least playing injured.
EpicDing 04-09-2012, 01:24 PM Oh God, we were swept?!?

On NHL 12, our defense is a 79 overall :shakehead I think McD is below 80 as well.
TheJuxtaposer 04-09-2012, 01:27 PM Burns out for three weeks! Say it ain't so! :scared:
Spezza19 04-09-2012, 01:29 PM Sounds pretty good to me! Loving the sweep from the Sens and what sounds like a wildly fun Game 3.
Very cool on Smith getting 3 straight shut outs, and also the Preds sweeping the Wings.
These things are always fun.
Muzzinga 04-09-2012, 01:29 PM Gagne scoring an OT goal from the press box. I hope that comes true!

LickTheEnvelope 04-09-2012, 01:45 PM On NHL 12, our defense is a 79 overall :shakehead I think McD is below 80 as well.
Ya I boosted the NYR D a bit. McD was rated 82 when I finished with him.
EpicDing 04-09-2012, 02:05 PM Ya I boosted the NYR D a bit. McD was rated 82 when I finished with him.
That's still below where he should be. IMO he's the best d-man on the team.
KingWantsCup 04-09-2012, 02:14 PM Lmao @ Sens sweeping the Rangers. I'm not saying the Sens can't beat the Rangers, but a sweep is just not happening. Still fun to see the simulation play out.
The Cheat 04-09-2012, 02:18 PM if you are going to sim it, why not set it to full rules and 20 minute periods?
hoppy 04-09-2012, 02:19 PM I was thinking about running a SIM on NHL 12 but glad someone else had the time to do it. I'm also glad the Sens managed a sweep the Rangers despite such a mediocre rating.
:handclap:
StackLeeAdams 04-09-2012, 02:24 PM Friend of mine simmed it as well - SCF was Florida and Phoenix with Phoenix taking it in 4. Wow.
mightyquack 04-09-2012, 02:29 PM if you are going to sim it, why not set it to full rules and 20 minute periods?
You know how long it would take to watch every one of those games? Doubt anyone has that much time on their hands lol

westernhome 04-09-2012, 03:03 PM Friend of mine simmed it as well - SCF was Florida and Phoenix with Phoenix taking it in 4. Wow.
thanks for sharing, more people should sim this and share in this thread :handclap:
lol in game 2 chara score with 0.04 seconds left in 3rd then in game 5 peverly scores with 0.3 seconds left in 3rd. thats enough to give me two heart attacks
LickTheEnvelope 04-09-2012, 03:32 PM That's still below where he should be. IMO he's the best d-man on the team.
Got to remember Staal is also 82 and a lot of good d-men in the game are rated 80-84 ... and 'poise' makes a massive difference, usually based off how many playoff games they have actually played.
LickTheEnvelope 04-09-2012, 03:34 PM if you are going to sim it, why not set it to full rules and 20 minute periods?
I wanted to get it done before the playoffs start.
If I had done it on 20 minute periods the first round probably wouldn't be done until the actual first round was almost over.
EDIT:
Also round two is taking slightly longer than I thought it would due to 3 game 7's.
Swedish Puck Mafia 04-09-2012, 03:35 PM Washington beating Boston and Nashville sweeping Detroit is enough of a reason to laugh at these simulations.
Usually simulations are run multiple times (a decent sample size for this would probably be in the 100's) as running just 1 simulation is subject to so much random chance that the results are only marginally reliable.

Well ya... i'm not saying this is anywhere near accurate.
2 Minute Minor 04-09-2012, 03:46 PM Can I consider the Blues to be official underdogs vs the more experienced Sharks now?
I think the NYR and Blues are not well accounted for with the numerical player stats the game uses. Team play is their forte, and NHL12 just doesn't model that very well.

SJGoalie32 04-09-2012, 04:00 PM Washington beating Boston and Nashville sweeping Detroit is enough of a reason to laugh at these simulations.
Yeah.....kinda reminds me of that ridiculous NHL '10 simulation when 5 out of the first 6 Eastern Conference playoff series were won by the underdogs, and a Flyers team that only got into the playoffs by winning a shootout in their final regular season game not only advanced all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, but overcame a 3-0 deficit along the way.
Completely laughable outcome that would never happen in reality......
.......oh wait, that was REALITY!
Obviously the OP and everyone knows that this isn't all going to go down exactly as in the simulation, but half the fun of playoff hockey is that it can be as absurdly unpredictable as any video game simulation, if not even more so.
You could run 200,000 simulations of the Stanley Cup Finals matchup, think you've got all realistic possible outcomes covered......and then somebody goes and bites another player's finger and suddenly all heck breaks loose.

Sharks blow series leads of 2-0 and 3-1
Sharks manage to score only 1 goal in the final 2 games/~8 periods of hockey (OT Game 5, Game 6, Game 7 + OT)
and Sharks choke away Game 7 after leading with under a half minute to go.......
Seriously.........This might be the most realistic/accurate outcome from a video game simulation I've ever seen!
It's like the A.I. engine has been following the Sharks for years, critically understands them, and has learned everything it possibly could about them.
Come to think of it, it's actually quite terrifying just how much that A.I. actually seems to know about them.
I might have to write a letter to EA Sports to stop giving that program more information before it eventually becomes sentient and rapidly learns how to enslave us all.

Luongo pulled mid-series, and then re-inserted later
Pavelski leading the charge early in the series
Marleau getting white hot with 4 goals in 5 games before completely disappearing
Niemi getting lit up for 3 quick goals against in at least two (and possibly 3) of the games
Couture the lone Shark able to score over the final two games
.....and Joe Thornton absolutely nowhere to be found on the goal scoring sheet.

2nd round=nucks/sharks a sweep. srsly. s.j was weak. all one goal games and some ot.
3rd round=chicago had a 3-0 series lead. i simulated and there were some injuries. bieska hurt for 3 weeks. put schiends in for game 5 won. then put luongo in. game 6 at the united center blew chicago out of the water. 8-1 booth/kesler leading the way.
4th round rematch against boston..... they had a 3-1 series lead. put schiends in game 5. won it. then game 7 came luongo in. van won 6-2 therefore winning the cup.
leading scorers were kesler with 22 pts. booth with 18. then daniel then burrows. the third line was really good. pahulsson had 6 goals=12pts, hansen 5 goals. higgins 4.

Samzilla 04-10-2012, 02:22 AM how are people creating a Playoff Mode with this years playoff teams?
Orca Smash 04-10-2012, 03:26 AM Although I like the fact that the Canucks got to Game 7 again I don't think I would be able to take another loss.
Exactly how i feel.
YogiCanucks 04-10-2012, 03:28 AM fantastic... another game 7 SCF loss.
But nicely done overall.

Yup. That and Mike Smith's 3 games + 2 period shut-out streak have been the most bizarre things so far.
Didn't Giguere do something like that with the ducks in 03? I think they swept the the wings that year.
Aliceanna 04-10-2012, 04:00 AM I don't even think the final 4 is "that" crazy. How they got there might be but I could see Van/Nas, Pit/NJ
The simulation mentioned here for last year (www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=559404), was exactly right on the finals, number of games, and winner--and as wrong as it could be on everything else (and still get the same two SCF opponents). Fun stuff!
