I am looking to get one but I really don't know much about them. Anyone have any suggestions or what I should be looking for?

I've got 2 (an Olympus C-3040 and Panasonic FZ-20). Depends on what your needs are, and how much you want to spend.

For long optical zoom cameras (and one that has an optical stabilizer), it's hard to beat the FZ-20. 12x Leica zoom lens, f/2.8 throughout the focal range, it looks like an SLR, it has low shutter lag, manual focus ring. Only things I don't like about it is that it doesn't have RAW support and noisy ISO400 mode.

If you want low light capability, the Canon G series is good, although the Canon G6 is the ugliest camera, ever.

If you want wide-angle, there's the Nikon 8400 and Olympus C-5060 (with the 7070 coming out in a few months).

If you want a P&S, Olympus, Sony, Nikon, Canon, KM, etc are all pretty good. Most have 3-8 megapixels, 3-8x optical zooms.

I have a Canon A75 and love it. It is a great point and shoot camera, but it also allows you to manually adjust stuff like focus and shutter speed if you want to be creative. It also is one of the few compact cameras that allows you to add on lenses (with an adapter).

I also found that it has the (by far) best LCD screen, uses 4 AA batteries so they last quite a while, and just feels very solid. I highly recommend it or the A85 or the A90(?) (4MP and 5MP models).

What do you plan on using it for? What do you currently use as a camera?

Like others have said it really depends on what you're looking for and what all you want to do with it. My main aspect i was looking for was size, something that I could carry with me anywhere I went. After looking around I settled on a 4mp Pentax Optio S4. It's no bigger than a credit card and will fit in an Altoids box. Picture quality is great, you can just point and shoot or there are several diferent things you can adjust to get more of a manual feel.

It's also got a nice video mode in which I can capture 1minute clips with sound (I believe the newer version, as mine is a year old, can take unlimited video with sound.)

Without going any further definitely check this site out, it helped me greatly!!!

Edit>oops someone already posted the dpreview site very helpful~ Definitely check that out!
