Just got back from the game.

Flyers 6: Devils 1

Flyers did play more of their regulars, missing Weinrich, Therien and Claude Lapointe the rest was pretty much the Flyers regular line-up.

Devils line-uo including lines that player together

Elias-Gomez-Marshall
Crozier-Madden-Pandolfo
Bicek-Rasmussen-Philman
Balmochykh-Rupp-Berglund

Niedermayer-Hale
White-Martin
Albelien-Brown

Schwabb - started
Ahonen - 2nd half

Devils controlled first 10 minutes or so, outshooting Flyers 9-1 at one point. Once the Flyers scored to make it 2-1, the Flyers dominated the rest of the game.

Comments on Devils prospects:

Balmochykh - has incredible talent, very good skater, and some nifty moves, but could be very frustrating for devils fans. great skill, but didn't seem to realize that the goal was to put the puck in the net, he was making moves just to make them, not really accomplishing anything. Not sure that Burns will have much patience with him.

Philman - the most impresive of Devils young players in this game, good size, took the body, looked like a typical Devil.

Rupp - may have been the worst Devil on the ice, looked lost out there.

Hale - started off the game looking good, but then got smoked twice with big hits mid-way through the first period. Didn't notice him much after that, but didn't make any glaring mistakes. Already has an NHL body.

Martin - didn't do much of anything good or bad. IMO doesn't look ready for the NHL this year. He looks like he needs to add 10-20 lbs. he got outmuscled for the puck a number of times.

Hale certainly looks more NHL ready to me.

Berglund - again looks liek one onf the more impressive Devils out there, every time I see him he looks good, I wonder why he doesn't play more for the Devils. If I had my choice i would take him over Gionta every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Devils goal was scored off a face-off win by Rasmussen, Niedermayer moved in and scored on a nice wrist shot from the top of the circle.

Ahonen had no chance on any of the goals he allowed.

Of the veteran Devils only Niedermayer did much of anything.

Thanks for the report John, its always good to hear about our boys. Our lineup was just overwhelmed imho. I guess the coaches wanted to see how some of the more impressive younger guys would fare in real game situations.

Actually some of your younger guys were more imprssive than the vets.

Elias, Gomez, Madden, Pandolfo & White did nothing.

Odd seeing Rasmussen wearing Tverdovsky's old number.

Who's Crozier? :dunno:
He had 38 points (19 G, 19A) last year while playing a limited number of games for Albany. He is a former teammate of John Madden when they played together in Michigan U. for the Wolverines. How did he play last night I wonder? Does anyone know?

I didn't notice him much, I had never heard of him so I was concentrating more on the other younger Devils: Hale, Martin, Philman & Balmochykh..

The only Devils that stoo dout were Niedermayer & Balmochykh, he has great skill, but didn't look like much of a brain.

I was scoreboard wacthing the whole game.

Bicek - Rasmussen - Pihlman line was by far the best line out there, they were +1 on the night. That is a line Burns should watch a little more carefully, might be a good idea for a 4th line, we may have to move a couple players.

Who played better for philly, Woywitka or Pitkanen.

I was surprised that Rasmussen was playing center, as he's usually been a winger in the NHL; although we have Recchi currently playing center (don't think that will last).

Woywita played well, and I think he'll become a good #2 or 3 defenseman down the road. It will take some time for his offense to come but I think he'll become a 35 point defenseman down the line.

Pitkanen in just the few games i've seen him shows you why he is so highly regarded. A great skater, especially for someone his size. Does everything so smooth.

Both played just under 20 minutes.

Pitkanen +3 with an assist.
woywitka +2.

The biggest question the team has right now is which 6 defenseman will play ??? Currently have 9 that are NHL ready.

Well of the Flyers centers only Primeau is a good face-off guy. Lapointe is our specialist and he didn't play last night.
