Greatest One timer - All Time

Interesting topic. There are several i can think of.

Mike Bossy
Jari Kurri
Brett Hull
Peter Bondra
Steve Shutt

I think Jari was the man. Unreal release... by far the most accurate shooter ever. Although Bossy was ****** good too. Everyones opinions are different so take a shot and explain why?

Hull and Kurri are clearly head and shoulders over everyone else IMO.

Bossy was more about his wrist shot, and also great around the net.

Hull and Kurri are to the one timer what the Babe was to th ehome run. It's their weapon, everyone else gets compared to them. Of course, the one timer is the result of great passers, and Coffey,Grets and Oates were ok at this.

Agreed the key to the one timer are the following:

#1. Getting open, Kurri and especially Hull were masters are finding holes in the defense, being far enough away from defenseman/traffic that created a passing lane and also freed them up to take that slap shot.

#2. Timing ... not shanking it when you get the chance, not worrying about picking the top corner. A one timer is most often scored, because its hard and beats the goalie before he can get set. Hull never picks a spot on his one timer. His theory is shoot it as hard as possible and hit the net. Goalies won't be square and his shot is hard enough to go in, if a goalie just agets a piece.

#3. The pass. Needs to be accurate and the right pace. Too soft it allows the goalie the time to get set. Too hard, and it becomes very difficult to one-time. Gretzky and Oates were the perfect set-up men ... then add Lidstrom, Yzerman, Modano, Coffey, Datsyuk, Messier etc. .... you have the perfect combination.

Gotta go with Hull here,even now at what,39?40? He's still got the deadliest release with accuracy and velocity of anyone in the game imo.Just a superior shot and one timer.

Hull. His one timer is the best I have seen.

I still remember during the Salt Lake Olympics the save Brodeur made on Hull. It wasn't his best one timer but it still was a great save.

One thing I remember seeing over and over was Mario Lemieux's one timer on the power play. He usually liked to set up on the left wing half boards. Eventually, he would take a pass somewhere in the left circle, and, with that team's puck movement, the goaltender often didn't have a prayer. :bow:

Like half his goals were scored on 1 timers.

Well maybe not best all-time but one of the top players at one-timers was Stephane Richer.

Sergei Zubov had a great one timer while skating backwards. I have to agree with some of the others that Kurri was the best though. HM's go to Modano, Doug Wilson, Tomas Sandstrom, Turcotte ?spelling? and Lindros.

Hull is really great and number 1 without a doubt but check Kovalchuk's goals from last year on the PP, it's getting better and better !

I vote for the Golden Brett. Brendan Shanahan has an underrated one timer as well.

Agreed. Shanahan's one timer is better than anyone I've seen except Hull and Kurri's.
I don't think I ever saw Bossy shoot a one timer. He's was just a spectacular WRIST shot.

But NO ONE gets the velocity and accuracy that Brett Hull gets.

I should have also mentioned both Jari Kurri and Mario Lemieux.

A few players who have monster one-timers that aren't mentioned as much: Teemu Selanne, Pavel Bure and Peter Bondra.
