Samsonov has a funny accent

Today I heard Samsonov speak Russian for the first time and I gotta say he's got a funny accent! :D

What kind of accent?

He has a North American accent I guess... Sounded to me like it's easier for him to speak English than Russian.. guess that shouldn't be a suprise considering he's been playing in the US since he was 18 or something like that..

It's North American, you can hear it a little bit when he pronounces the "R"

Here's what the interviewer asked Samsonov :

- Может, потому что вы и сами стали немного американцем? Заграничный акцент и модные очки делают вас похожим на иностранца.

He said "foreign accent".

When you're completely surrounded by a different language all the time, it's hard not to pick up a bit of an accent. That must be funny to hear, though. Maybe he's just picked up Canadian -- what's the Russian equivalent of "eh"? :D

I don't understand Russian, but even I can hear some differences between Russian speakers from different parts of the country.

Sergei married an American girl from Michigan--presumably they met in 1996-97 during his 1st season in N.A. with the IHL's Detroit Vipers. In addition to having been here for 9 years now I'm sure his accent has become watered down--if you will--as a result of that. The thing I always found funny about Sergei's voice is not so much his accent but that he speaks as if he has a mouthful of food or something.

He should not be allowed to come to Russia any more caz of his NA accent !!!!

i dunno man maybe, in moscow everyone outside of the city sounds like they have an Заграничный акцент :)
