What's your game of choice for the upcoming spring? I have been a consistent All-Star Baseball player, but it doesn't seem that they're making a game this year. ANyone gave background on the pros and cons of previous incarnations of these games?

I got MVP 2005 last year... I liked it, but it had flaws. There's the obvious left handed batter power drain, but also you can't develop any of your farm players, and the 18, 19, 20 year olds are just too well rated... but the in game play was alright, pros: batters had hot and cold zones (and neutral zones), the manager mode was great for playing but not really playing a full season, and having AAA and AA is GREAT, and they have just about everybody so your AAA is stocked with actual players. And the unlockables are pretty good. Game play... Cons: you can't move the batter in the box (although that is being put in for this year's game), stealing a base is hard as hell, and your pitchers last a hell of a lot longer than theirs do. It was a fun game, easily the most realistic one I've played, but it was flawed, most flawed recent sports game I bought.

Im getting 2k5 this year. Last year I rented both and I thought they both sucked. 2k5 is only 30 bucks this year. MVP's franchise looks much deeper but that doesn't interest me.

Deeper franchise mode interests me, especially the minor league teams. What really interests me, but will be hit or miss is career mode.

What's the difference? Franchise mode, career mode, they're the same thing.

Actually just looking into it more, i screwed up, it's MLB that has career mode as well as franchise mode. In career mode, I'm not exactly certain how it works, but you take control of one player through out his career from the minors, hopefully to the majors

Ah. That's pretty cool actually.

Description of MLB 2006...

# All-New Career Mode – Play the game from the player's perspective. Gamers control their destiny from the start to finish

* Play time is based on on-field performance
* A player start in the minors and work their way through the system and hopefully into the Major Leagues
* Interact with the manager and teammates like never before - Raise concern about playing time, Request a promotion, Demand a trade, Provide a tell-all interview with the media, Negotiate salary, Pull the team together and rally
* All-New Training Interface - Play better by working hard and training harder. Invest spare time in the gym, on the field and watching film. The more effective the training is, the better the results and play. Train smart.
* Customize like never before - Customize a player even further by selecting from hundreds of stances, walk-ups, swings, step-ins, practice swings and HR celebrations

MVP

The last version was the best baseball game in years and every preview of it is absolutely gushing over it.

I just read reviews of both, and, not surprizingly, each offers something the other doesn't. The player career mode seems really interesting, but the batting interface for MLB 2006 sounds like it sucks, you have to guess where the pitch will be before it's thrown; whereas MVP 2005 is more realistic in that you have to react to the pitch.

i love the franchise in mvp, but i dont like how the budget is always cut back (though i guess that reflects major league baeball), and its long and arduous to sim 162 games, but that's a whole baseball season.

i'm a baseball enthusiast, i can watch a full length game of baseball and not get bored (a rarity)...i've played all of the major league games and MVP is the best, though it's hard to hit in the higher difficulties...i'm still going with mvp this year
