49ers select WR Braylon Edwards. Some might call me crazy, but this is really the only "need" position in the top 10. 49ers need a playmaking WR and they can wait a year for Leinart whos better than both Rodgers and Smith IMO. And theres no real good O-line or defensive tackle prospects worth using the #1, much less a top 10, pick on.

I'd be really interested in moving up, other than Davis, I dont think Houston's got anything of interest to Miami. Arrrgh.

Not a bad move by San Fran. They're not terrible at RB, and if they want a QB, they can wait for a much better QB than Rodgers or Smith in Matt Leinhart. He could've moved down, but this is good as well.

I posted it once or twice in the last draft thread and I got only one offer which didnt fit any of the teams needs/wants. It also seemed that the majority of people in the last thread didnt really want to make trades so I just decided to make the pick.

Still, there are about 3 expected to go in the top 10. There are no standout players at most positions: it's a weak draft class.

On the other hand, I don't think Mike Williams is going to be drafted 2nd overall.

No, only Barron is top-15 material. Jammal Brown has an outside shot at the top-15 but he would be a bit of a reach. And Mike Williams might not go 2nd overall, but he could go to the Bears at number 4 and maybe even higher if somebody trades up to grab him.

He won't go in the Top 5, but there is no way he gets past #12.....that's as low as he'd probably fall, and I just hope he falls to #12, cause the Chargers would be getting a steal there....I don't think he gets past Minnesota though, assuming Edwards goes before that....even then, Washington may take him too.....

And another thing....I'm getting sick of seeing mock drafts that have Detroit taking Heath Miller at #10.....they have WAY more pressing needs.....If they traded back, got another Day 1 pick, then took him, I might live with that, but I see OG, S, and DE being the positions that need the most addressing.....you can find TE's later on....I don't see the justification in taking one that high unless he is the next Tony Gonzales or Antonio Gates.....I'm done ranting now :D

With the success of 'slow' receivers like Boldin and the emergence of the TE position given the 5-yard rule, a guy like Williams just might go in the top-5 afterall.

The Houston Texans have sent the #13 pick to the Cleveland Browns for DT/NT Gerard Warren and the Browns 2nd round pick(#34).

This trade works out well for both teams as the Texans gain a vital younger piece to their defensive line(after Payne became a UFA) and an extra pick. The Browns acquire a second pick within the top 13 and get rid of a player who asked to seek a trade anyway. Works well for both clubs!

To Dallas - 2005 first round pick (23rd overall)

Hrm, I'm definitely unfamiliar with Bradie James, but this seems a little lopsided for Dallas. Let's just say Glenn is worth a 5th rounder (I'm sure there are those who'd argue he's worth less).

Just basing off one draft pick chart.....the 23rd overall is worth 760 points. The Cowboys 4th rounder is worth 80 points, their 5th worth about 40 points. Add in Glenn at 40 more points, and you have James making a 600 point difference which is equivalent to a late first/high second rounder.

Never heard of James, so I'm not sure if his value is anywhere in that ballpark.

James is a big, young LB who probably should have gone 2nd round a few years back, but slipped to the 4th round. Hasnt played much because he's had pro bowler Dexter Coakley ahead of him. Also,, I'd like to think Glenn(a WR who can actually catch the ball) is more valuable to Seattle(whose WR's dont seem to know how to catch) than most other teams. That being said...its definately in my favor...but nearly every trade is in someone's favor :D

I made a quick analysis of that trade a few pages ago. I thought you got the short end of the stick, but that was based on relative trade value. Given the general worth of the picks, plus Glenn's worth (I'd say about a 4th or 5th rounder), you ended up paying a hefty price for Bradie James. Based on points, you had him graded as a high 2nd rounder. I haven't seen any Cowboys games, but it didn't appear he was worth that.

We considered taking another player with this pick, but this one need is much greater than the other. Would still like to acquire a late second/early third rounder to get that other player, though. Would also really want to trade James, and he could be had for not all that much.

Breaking News!

The Indianapolis Colts have traded RB Edgerrin James and their 4th round pick in 2005 to the San Francisco 49ers for RB Kevan Barlow and their 3rd round pick in 2005.

I probably got less than for Edge than I could've, but this is a deal to cut salary. Barlow hasn't gone great in San Fran, but in Indy I'm confident he could have some great seasons with Payton Manning handing him the ball. A Barlow-Rhodes combo is good enough for me. Barlow and pretty much a second rounder for Edge is decent enough. The fourth didn't make a whole lot of difference to me.

Now, with my next pick, the Indianapolis Colts are proud to select Rian Wallace, OLB, Temple!
