Have you guys ever heard of him? Demetrius "hook" Mitchell...
If not, I suggest you check this website...

Belgian Fan 02-23-2005, 03:42 PM Willy Steveniers always says he is the best never to reach the NBA. He was pretty brilliant in his day and really inredible. But of course he never played at the highest level so it's tough to compare
Some more testimony...
This guy was 5"9...look at the dunks he's throwing down...

Sorry to keep going with this, but i'm surprised there hasn't been any more post regarding this thread, where are all the basketball fans, go get this DVD, it's crazy...this guy at 5"9 and 34 yrs old, and former drug addict can still do 360 alley hoop dunks
He jumped over a Volkswagen and dunked the ball  AT THE SAME TIME!
PhoPhan 02-23-2005, 04:18 PM Saw the title, thought "Hook Mitchell."
I've heard he dunked from the 3 point line.

yeah that's him, according to a few players who hail from the Bay area, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Antonio Davis, Greg Foster, he was better than all of them growing up, he just got tangled into a life of crime and drugs and well, the rest is history

Fire Sather 02-23-2005, 06:26 PM I forgot his name, but people told me there was a guy who rarley ever missed a shot and whatnot, and probably would have been better than Jordan, but hes currently locked away for drugs.

I don't know if this is who you have in mind, but I suggest you check out
Rebound: The Legend of Earl 'The Goat' Manigault (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0117450/)
He was the best according to many NBA players that saw him and played against him, but drugs and prison took him out of the game too early.

That may be him, yeah. I will ask the fellas who I talked to about it again.

I really do not understand why someone's abilty to dunk means so much to so many people. A dunk is worth 2 points and a layup is worth 2 points.
Never saw Bob Cousy dunk. Don't remember Oscar(a guy who AVERAGED a triple double one year) or Jerry West dunking either.

eh, being able to do crazy dunks is just indicative of having athletic abilities far above others. Of course pure athletic ability means nothing, but if everyone plays at their absolute peak ability, the guy with more athletic ability wins. It's stupid if the player focuses and hones his dunking skill more than other more important abilities, but being more physically gifted then most certainly has some merit in a discussion on most talented players to never make the NBA.

Larry Bird would seem to be an example that argues this point

Stanley Roberts, and he was bigger but not better.

I disagree. It's the mental game that comes into play when everyone plays at their peak ability. That's the difference between a champion and a star. A champion can play under pressure and get the job done.

I was also thinking of this guy but couldn't remember. I saw this HBO a while back and just like NBA players talking about "Hook Mitchell", NBA players talked up "The Goat".
Douggy 02-24-2005, 09:47 AM The movie website said he would get out of jail in 2004. I wonder if any NBA team would take a chance on him.

This is interesting...

His skills are so tight that someone affiliated with the Orlando Magic recently said, "I hope he's available when we have a draft pick."
Who knows at what capacity that guy is, but it's something to think about.
