BluesConvert 09-23-2003, 03:37 AM NP board has a couple of folks who played in the golf scramble yesterday reporting that Hamhuis told them he had pulled a groin.
Though, apparently, it didn't effect his golf game much, as his team won (or came in second, depending on whose report you read) the tourney. :)
Couple of questions:
1) Anyone have any more solid info about this?
2) Several of you have played a LOT more hockey than I have...perhaps you can help me out here. I can't really immagine a groin injury that's bad enough to keep you off the rink, but not bad enough to keep you off the golf course. Seems to me the twisting and weight transfer of a golf swing would tweak a groin injury pretty good. So, in other words, I'm ASSUMING that if he's playing golf (and, apparently, the trainers/coaches must have LET him), he's probably not going to miss any time on the ice. Is that a fair assumption?

I think that's a fair assumption. But that being said, when I play golf, the groin isn't in motion as much as the hips would be. The groin tends to stay locked, still there is a possibility for movement and I don't think Trotz or Poile would let him play (and do you think he would jeopardize a spot on the roster to play golf?).

Excellent point. As I say, I haven't played enough hockey (and certainly haven't played much "injured" to really know how much (and what kinds of) stress hockey can put on a groin injury, vs. the rotation and weight transfer of a golf swing. But, as you say, it strikes me that if is was ANY sort of predicted "long term" (even just a week or so) injury, the coaches (and hopefully Danny Boy) would think it wise to avoid the golf course...if for no other reason than the bad potential PR.
I mean, can't ya just see the Tennessean going bonkers over it? "Dan Hamhuis, WHO PLAYED A FINE ROUND OF GOLF THIS WEEKEND, was scratched for Friday's matchup with the Blues...etc etc". Come on, they used to SHRED Al DelGreco for playing golf, and they LIKE the Titans. :)

Canadian Chris 09-23-2003, 12:49 PM Hmm...well, I've pulled my groin quite a few times....and skating is near impossible to do if it's bad enough, HOWEVER, I have been able to golf with little or no pain, except if I have to walk into the bushes to grab my ball....
So, even if Dan has a tweaked groin, I'm sure it's ok to golf on, and not do any more damage to it....
but ya, any tweaking of a groin is enough to take a guy of skates....you really don't notice how much it comes into play when you're skating until you try playing with it tweaked a bit! YOUCH!
biscuithead 09-24-2003, 02:14 AM I'm going to be watching for more of BC's "rumors":
Defensive prospect Dan Hamhuis sat out yesterday's practice with a strained groin he suffered in last Saturday's 2-2 tie against Chicago.

sparkle twin 09-24-2003, 08:46 PM He was not in Wednesday's practice either. But he says in the article that he shouldn't be out too long, so probably just resting it.
