Well I got a couple of gold glovers...

Well, Rafael Palmeiro has a Gold Glove

(I've told this story so many times... anybody want to inform everybody of the reference?)

The Gold Glove award is a joke. MOST of the time they get it right, but sometimes it's just a travesty whom they are giving GG's too, and who they are NOT giving it to.

(Last year was terrible)

Also... let's see how mnay GG's I have...

Helton 3
Cameron 2
Reese 2
Edmonds 7

More than I expected actually...

Especially how my best defensive players are actually ones that don't have GG's.

Brian Schneider was ABSOLUTELY JOBBED last year (11 Defensive WS!) (Matheney was good, but nowhere near Schneider's level)...

And Damon would be winning GGs if he could throw. Saying Damon throws like girls is an insult to girls everywhere.

Finley wasn't deserving of a GG last year.

GG are subjective, and players generally earn them years after they deserve them; and keep getting them after they don't, as their reputation carries them.

Take for example, as referenced above, Rafael Palmerio. In 1999 he won his 3rd straight GG. Playing 28 games in the field.

Monster Bertuzzi has the best IMO... Vlad/Jones/Stewart.

Hercules has, by far, the worst.

I think Tuggy's OF D is atrocious...

5 Corner OF's? C'mon.

Well, technically Matsui is a CF (He played CF in Japan), but that's like saying technically Ann Coulter is a woman.

Edit: Well, Ann Coulter IS more manly than Hideki Matsui, and DEFINITLY speaks less coherent English.

Berkman can play center, he may not be the greatest CF but he can play there. Gullien and Hidalgo have two of the best arms in the league. My OF D is far from atrocious.

Monster Bert has the best and gets my vote.

Berkman is terrible at CF though. You'd probably be better off putting Guillien or Hidalgo out there at center.

I would give it to Alexander the Great.

OF: Ichiro Suzuki
OF: Steve Finley
OF: Garret Anderson
Scott Podsednik

Ichiro and Finley are two outstanding defensive outfielders. Ichiro's got as strong an arm as anybody, and has the range and instincts to play CF. Finley's been winning gold gloves his entire career, and is just so smart out there. Garret Anderson is not great in CF or RF, but in left, he's quite good. Podsednik is solid in left as a fourth guy too.

Monster_bertuzzi's is obviously great too, but Stewart's not very good in left. I mean, he's average in some ways, but he throws like a softball player from left.

Stewart brings my D down. He throws like a grandma - great speed though.

I like my OF, especially with Hunter roaming CF......Cabrera is my DH, but Crawford and Bay are no slouches........

I agree completely. All three starters are good defenders, and even Podsednik is pretty good also.

UZR numbers:

Defensive Win Shares:

The Fan Scouting System: (Read the description first... I really like the concept)
http://www.tangotiger.net/scouting/scoutResults2004.html

With Win Shares I just destroy everybody, but with UZR numbers it's pretty even.

Edit: It appears that I destroy everybody with UZR too.
UZR however HATES Finley (I'm inclined to agree with it though)

Remember: TAKE DEFENSIVE METRICS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. Also, Win Shares is a cumulative stat as well as a rate stat, so a player's win share numbers are lowered if he was injured.

Edit: Remember, with non-position neutral UZR, it is assumed that a player would automatically have a WORSE score if you move them right of the defensive spectrum, but automatically have a better score if you move them LEFT of the defensive spectrum. So a 20 run CF would be a >20 run RF. The player's defensiev VALUE remains the same, but the average he is JUDGED AGAINST is lower, so his score increases.

The only plus Defender on that list is Ichiro. Finley is TERRIBLE these days (again, metrics, grain of salt), Posednick isn't rated very well, and Anderson the numbers don't like very much either.

The GG argument is stupid, I'm sorry. It's not a knock against you guys, but GG's are the least credible award in ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS. When you've got Raffy Palmeiro winning GGs, the whole thing is a joke. This coming from a GM that has 9 of them in the OF.
