Here in Edmonton all signs point to a long, long wait. There is nothing happening. At all. The smart money is riding on a trade at this point, but the Oilers will not get anywhere near market value for him.

I suspect the only reason he's still there (sitting in Michigan) is that Lowe can afford to play hardball as he has public opinion on his side this time. Comrie got a big sweetheart deal because of a loophole in the CBA as a rookie. Now the CBA works against him and he wants arbitration but he's too young. So he holds out.

I also think Lowe remembers the backfires of Ray Whitney and Miro Satan so he will take this slowly. If the Oilers get off to a good start he could be sitting a while.

comrie had leverage when he signed that bonus-laden contract before, leverage he no longer has. Likely him and his agent think it's ok to demand the same or higher. But showing up when you're not 100% just to collect on exorbitant bonuses... that shows a certain lack of class.

it means mike comrie's dad and his whole family is filthy rich...which also means that mike comrie does not need to play for money. he's got hundreds of millions from his big daddy bill. him asking for more than 2.0 million at this point is just ludicrous

Just because of his financial standings doesn't mean he can't request what he feels is fair value. You don't pay a player more than his value when he is poor, why pay him less if he is rich?

I don't think it'll be too long, myself. At this point, there's no incentive on either side, Edmonton isn't playing any games that mean anything, and Comrie isn't missing any paycheques. Once the season starts, then the real pressure starts for both sides.

Two, three weeks into the season and all the various holdouts will sign.
