The_Wiz 09-24-2003, 06:29 PM Hey everyone :)
What has been the biggest rumour, or practical joke (maybe an April Fools?) that has ever been played or posted here on the HF boards ?
Thanks :)
Hitman* 09-24-2003, 06:42 PM I don't think there has been one. Unless all those board crashes were Mark's idea of humour.
Brock 09-24-2003, 06:43 PM Havent you heard of the 10 foot behmoth who is going to take the NHL by storm?
Mr. Dustin Rose.
That is definitely the biggest one EVER and the best EVER and will REMAIN the BEST ever. It happened on the old board format by the way.
Aaron Vickers 09-24-2003, 06:44 PM TorTrader...had to have been a big practical joke.
I hear there is a body burried under HFboards and at night, when no one is on...the lights go off.......
Douggy 09-24-2003, 06:49 PM Radio Roberts threads/posts are allways good.
The joke played on the bWo just before the commencement of Operation Butofuco was pretty good.
There are others.
SingnBluesOnBroadway 09-24-2003, 07:10 PM NY Man
Jim Peplinski's Auto Sales pulled one nasty rumor that left us shaking our heads in belief as IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I must remind that he called Mario's comeback out of left field, a day or so before TSN reported it first...
Kirk Muller 09-24-2003, 07:47 PM FOTS's whole "sara" fiasco had a pretty interesting shelf life.
I think MoS pulled a pretty decent one, he found a dead thread with zero posts about a player (can't remember the name) who was injured and out for the year or something, bumped the thread to get it back on the first page, causing some disgruntled fans.
monster_bertuzzi 09-24-2003, 08:02 PM When Modano=god showed Nuck fans a fake article about Kariya signing with the Nucks

Yeah that was definately the best
wazee 09-24-2003, 08:12 PM Dustin Rose was the best! Who was responsible for that hoax?
DrHockeyMD 09-24-2003, 08:19 PM I hear there is a body burried under HFboards and at night, when no one is on...the lights go off.......
I heard the body is actually Kirk McLean's washed up career. Whoops.
Vlad The Impaler 09-24-2003, 09:09 PM Havent you heard of the 10 foot behmoth who is going to take the NHL by storm?

The sad thing is how a lot of posters actually believed that crap and how the guy who did it was allowed to continue posting throughout that long time AND after he admitted it was just lies.
This thing would have never happened under the new format.
Vlad The Impaler 09-24-2003, 09:10 PM Dustin Rose was the best! Who was responsible for that hoax?
A moron going by the handle of Big Red Machine, I think.
wazee 09-24-2003, 09:18 PM A moron going by the handle of Big Red Machine, I think.
Hmmm...wonder what name he is using now? And what other names he used then?
It was a great hoax.
Burke's Evil Spirit 09-24-2003, 09:32 PM Hmmm...wonder what name he is using now? And what other names he used then?
It was a great hoax.
Hey, Big Red. How's it going?
Vlad The Impaler 09-24-2003, 10:37 PM It was a great hoax.
It was utterly stupid, useless and counterproductive but it did demonstrate the clear lack of discerning ability in the general populace.
Whoever did it was a sad individual and a grade A idiot.
andora 09-24-2003, 11:07 PM ah.. someone just got vladinated...
i wonder about that all the time, which posters have had old handles, or have current multiple handles... one to cause **** on, one to discuss with elegance on...

It was Martin Straka. Andf it didn't have 0 posts, it had like 13 or something. And the funny thing was I knew right away it was a revival, and it too almost 15 replies before anybody mentioned anything.
Jonathan. 09-25-2003, 01:46 AM Hey everyone :)

Hmm. I won't say since it might ruin it for the new guys when it hits. ;)
DR...
Bye.
The G Man 09-25-2003, 03:37 AM Yes, definitely DR.
Another "good" one was the Sara incident. Plus G Man's Fedayeen and Rachel Leigh Cook. Those were good too.
The G Man 09-25-2003, 03:37 AM Almost forgot ... Fischel's avatar changing crusade (particularly Dr Chimera and his dolls)
Wingboy2999 09-25-2003, 03:59 AM What happened with this Dustin Rose guy? Or Big Red or whatever....
Kerberos 09-25-2003, 04:08 AM How about that Habs fan that was parading as a Bruins fan. Also known as :joker:
Classic
canadahockeygirl* 09-25-2003, 04:10 AM You've got it the wrong way!
Johnny was a B's fan parading as a Habs fan. ;)

It's a well known fact that most B's fan are actually closet habs fan so we're actually arguing about the same thing.
canadahockeygirl* 09-25-2003, 04:23 AM Eh, poo on you and your "well known facts"
;)
Slats432 09-25-2003, 05:49 AM How about the poll on the Rangers board that said who the player would be most missed if injured...
Pavel Bure
Eric Lindros
Mike Richter
Bobby Holik
Mark Messier
and about 50 Oilers fans went and voted for Messier just freaking out the Rangers fans....lol

and about 50 Oilers fans went and voted for Messier just freaking out the Rangers fans....lol:lol: Those poll tinkering jokes are pretty funny. Canucks fans 'occasionally' sneak over the Avs' board when they've posted a Who Will Win Tonight's Game poll and vote for the Canucks Will Crush the Avs.
Since there's quite a few more 'Nucks fans on this site than Avs' fans... the poll is way out of wack. Then the Avs' fans discuss amongst themselves how little faith their fans have in their team. Very amusing; definitely worth the trip over. :D

Actually we probably shouldn't condone this because I think the Oiler guy that started the brough-ha-ha got a week ban or something.
Jewelly 09-25-2003, 06:08 AM Actually we probably shouldn't condone this because I think the Oiler guy that started the brough-ha-ha got a week ban or something.Well, it is a public poll so anyone should be able to vote and we really do believe the Canucks will crush the Avs so it should be ok.
Slats432 09-25-2003, 06:16 AM Is it a practical joke that this thread is in the Lounge twice?

Hey, I was just in the process of linking the two threads together so they could be combined. Mods? Enough coffee, wake up!
Douggy 09-25-2003, 06:25 AM What happened with this Dustin Rose guy? Or Big Red or whatever....
Yeah... this must have been before my time.
I remember the whole Madden = God fiasco, or was it Madden > Modano??? Either way it was pretty funny.
The G Man 09-25-2003, 06:40 AM The Dustin Rose thing was hysterical. He was supposed to be something like 13 years old, 6'4, 230 lbs, nasty, could shoot, skate, hit, fight ... the whole enchilada. I think he lived on an Indian reservation with his 10 brothers and sisters inside a one room house.
It was so clearly a joke, but some folks bought it, or got downright ticked that Big Red wouldn't come clean. Big Red claimed to have discovered the kid and eventually went by the username "The Scout Who Discovered Dustin Rose"
Big Red Machine became a pretty good poster after that whole fiasco though. He had a wealth of knowlege about Russian hockey history and he and this poster named Peter had these fascinating threads where it was like a who's who of alltime great Soviet players. He had been signed up here, but his account doesn't appear to be active.
Koltsov71 09-25-2003, 06:45 AM Radio Roberts threads/posts are allways good
He's a joke.
The_Wiz 09-25-2003, 07:08 AM The Tie Domi beat Alex Mogilny and is the faster skater on the Leafs was a pretty good one too wasn't it ?
That just came out a couple of days ago ! ;)
Dr Love 09-25-2003, 07:10 AM Coyote Tony, and all of his aliases, was a practical joke gone wrong, right?
At least I hope he was...

Obviously, you and I don’t share the same sense of humor.

And, just as obviously, you and I do. It was a classic.
Now that you mention it, I remember those Russian threads as well. They were definitely worth reading, especially for those of us who grew up in the Cold War era thinking of the Soviet teams as ‘the enemy’…
I haven't seen you around much this summer. Have I just missed your posts or have you been absent?

Been "lounging" it. I only lurk on the hockey boards for the most part. I'm trying to avoid the fact that I don't like hockey as much as I used to.
Burke's Evil Spirit 09-25-2003, 07:26 AM What is this "sara" incident everyone keeps referring to? I guess I missed it...unless it has to do with FOTS' suicide post a few months back...

What do you mean aliases?
Are you telling me Wing Man (and Sasquatch and StrongBad and Right Wing and....) was actually Coyote Tony?!?!?!?!
I would have never known! How could anybody have seen through such a clever ruse...

I remember that article. That link is missing the sub headline, which was the tip off:

Well it's just a hunch I got when I was smoking crack/dropping acid/eating girl scout cookies. I can't confirm this.

A poster named Jose Theodore, who afterwards was forced to change his identity for his own protection, opened up a 2nd acct under the username "Sara" with an avatar of a cute teenage girl as an experiment to see if the fact that the poster was a girl would make people treat him/her any different.
Well, some folks were immediately suspicious (*cough* me) and others bought it hook, line, and sinker (*cough* KJay). It got kind of ugly and is a major reason why having 2nd accts gets you banned.
FOTs was in on the whole thing which is why you see his name associated with it.

To clarify. It all started when JT decided to do it, but he was on my msn list, and came to me saying I have another account, guess who it is. I made 2 guesses,(which were guesses with nothing behind them). Then it hit me. Sara. The poster I was always suspicious about(who chooses the habs, I mean literally chose, the habs as their team to spite their bf?) I was suspicious from the get-go, and then I guessed right. I told him I wouldn't blow his cover, but I did drop some hints as to who he was. Eventually Splatman figured it out, and then I was told I'd be banned if I couldn't prove my accusation. Splatman stuck up for me, and JT tried to distance himself. Eventually, i tried to(unsuccessfully, and disastrously) bait Mac into saying he was attracted to the girl. You see, I wasn't trying to imply that he was pedophillic, or unfaithful, but I'm just so used to talking to people my age, i completly forgot how old he was, and what his situation was. That's when things got bad, and Postman seemed to think I was human garbage for it, and wanted me banned even months after. To this day he still holds a grudge, or at least it seems that way.
