Tornado become first team since 1997 to win back-to-back National Titles. Tornado avenge round robin loss with 6-1 win over Jets.
Sat, Apr 30 - Bismarck, North Dakota

It was another banner night, but this time in North Dakota. After falling behind early 1-0 in the National Championship game, the Texas Tornado responed with a 2nd period that will go down as one of the best in team history. #26 Derek Danowski scored the game-tying goal late in the 1st period when he took a drive from the slot that beat Jets goalie Andy Stricker. The 2nd period opened with the Tornado killing a penalty, but shorthanded specialist #15 Nick Mazzolini danced his way through the Jets defense and scored with the Tornado down a man to give the Tornado a 2-1 lead, a lead that they would never lose. #5 Brett Blatchford capped off his amazing night with a power play goal to make it 3-1. #17 Jordan Mowbray scored minutes later on a 1 on 1 backhand shot that found the right corner and it was 4-1. #8 Derek Punches converted on a lose rebound in front and the Tornado led 5-1 at the end of the 2nd period. The 3rd period was dominated by excellent Tornado penalty killing and strong goaltending by #30 Ben Bishop, who would only allow three goals in his last three games. Mowbray scored his second of the night to make it a 6-1 final and give the Tornado their back-to-back National Championships

Congrats to the Tornado!

Ben Bishop looks like a heckuva recruit for Maine. I look forward to seeing him with the Black Bears this fall.
