The Lounge Manifesto (Please read the rules before posting) (Upd: 9/16/12)

As all of you know by now, we’ve had some trouble as of late here in the Lounge with posters pushing the envelope as to whats permitted in terms of posts, flame wars, spamming, trolling, etc. That’s why we have decided that something needs to be done in order to clean things up. HF is a hockey board first and foremost. Many people at this site even believe that the Lounge should be eliminated as it is not needed here at HF. That is not true of course, but they do have a point, because lately, the non-hockey part of HF has caused more trouble than the rest of the boards. And we think it’s time to put an end to that.

So here goes a quick reminder of the rules:

First and foremost, the rules are to be found in the HF boards FAQ, if you have any doubts about whether a particular post is acceptable or not, the answer is going to be in there more often than not: http://hfboards.com/faq.php?

But of course, the Lounge is a bit different than the rest of the hockey boards, but the basics remain the same.

No personal attacks, no posting of inappropriate material (use the “Fischel-doctrine”, if you are in doubt as to whether it is appropriate, it more often than not isn’t) no swearing, etc. … these are all the same right here in the Lounge. (A special mention would go to the rule that the posting of entire articles isn’t allowed either as that rule is often not followed here.)

Some other things worth noting are that we don’t tolerate “bump-threads”, “babe-threads,” and similar threads. Those will be "jihaded" as we like to say, and very often the offending parties will find themselves with a new avatar for their troubles. Nor will we allow long list posts. I.E., Pope List, Cheese List etc...

Also, we are asking posters to pay a bit more attention to the HF rules regarding making inflammatory posts. Particularly with regard to the titles of their threads when posting ‘politically sensitive material’. Deliberately inflammatory titles like “That idiot (insert policitician name here) screws up yet again” or “The French are nothing more than *****” are only going to lead to confrontation, harsh words, and personal attacks. That’s why we’d like the posters themselves to take a bit more care in the hope that civil discussions can be had instead of the flame wars as we've seen in the past. Moderators will edit the titles of any threads we feel meet this criteria.

That’s basically it. As you’ve previously read, breaking of certain of these rules will lead to immediate bans. This doesn’t mean the Lounge will become a Siberian prison camp. That is anything but our intention. But if we’re gonna keep the Lounge as a part of hfboards, these ‘changes’ are a must. So in short, insanity will still flow in abundance here no doubt, but it will have some new borders ….

The Lounge is here to provide an outlet to discuss non-hockey related topics. It's a small part of a website whose primary focus is on hockey prospects. It's open to users of all ages. Sex and drugs are not suitable topics for discussion here. This also includes any illegal acts such as violation of copyright laws. While these topics appear in the news all the time, they do not belong on HF. There's a fine line where those subjects can be safely discussed, and we're not interested in drawing it. There's a multitude of other topics that can be discussed with no problem.

Sincerely,
The Lounge Mods
