Who would you guys take: Madden or Peca? Take into account salary, age, checking abilities and offensive abilites. Who would you want on your team right now.....especially keeping the playoffs in mind? Who is the better guy to shut the other team's top line at this point in time? Personally, I would go with Madden.Thoughts?

Madden, I don't know how much older Peca is, not too much though.

Peca is about 29, Madden is 24 I think

Madden is 30, a year older then Peca.

I would take Peca for his leadership qualities though I think Madden is the better player now.

I didn't know Peca was the young, I thought he was able to be a UFA. I knew madden was a UFA next year.

Madden

a player every team would love to have.

BTW, ESPN.com list's Peca (March 26, 1974) at 29 and Madden (May 4, 1975) at 28.

I'll be the first one to take Peca. He can shut down the opponent's top line just as well as Madden when put into that role and he can put up decent numbers playing on a second line.

Peca
I can't name a single forward without the last name Bertuzzi who hits harder.
He's got 2 selkes already, probably more on the way.
He's proven he's good for 20-25 goals a year.
Can easily play in a shutdown role AND a 2nd line scoring role.

I like madden, but he's not as versatile as Peca in my opinion. He's not as good a scorer and he doesn't strike me as the type of guy to get his room going. He's a very good third liner, but not worth creaming your shorts over.

Peca by a landside.. I don't buy the hype surrounding Madden, to me, he's grossly overrated. I take Peca with the difference between Holland and the USA.

I liked Madden for years. A true warrior. IMO, he's a better checker and emotional player than Peca, if that's what you're looking for. On the other hand, if you're looking for more offensive prescence, Peca is your man. Depends on what you want. But in a perfect world, you'd have better offensive center and Madden as the main checker.

I feel the same......come playoff time, Madden is more of a proven warrior

Worth pointing out here that you also felt Jamie Langenbrunner would do jack for the Devils in the postseason.
