Raven 09-26-2003, 05:42 PM Its gonna be a long season and very boring. We have not one player with any fire. We got beat 9-0 by the Red Wings and nobody got upset. I know its the preseason but If I was trying to make the team I would not take a beaten like that without letting them know it won't happen again. I guess we will always be a team that reacts to what the other team dishes out. The California Seals had more spunk then this team. They should already sign Boyaton since they raise tickets prices and gave Stumple away. Does Boyaton have McLaren written on his wall? I don't know too much about hockey like some of you guys but even a blind man could see we need some spunk and Boyaton back.......but it ain't gonna happen
Gee Wally 09-26-2003, 05:52 PM one exhibition game does not a season make...
Ratty 09-26-2003, 06:02 PM Raven, you obviously know enough about hockey to recognize the fraud that O'Connell has given us. What really galled me was the rookie coach, after the embarrassing 9-0 shellacking in Detroit said the goalies actually played well.....HUH?
Oh well, you get what you pay for. Burns..canned. Keenan..canned.
Okie takes over team after firing his hand-picked coach, and he fails at that job too.
Black Eye 09-26-2003, 06:12 PM I remember similar disaster scenario concerns after the opening night of the regular season last year. The B's looked like garbage and the alarms started going off. Of course, they went on to win most of the rest of the games in the first quarter.
Wait a little bit before getting too wound up. These games mean nothing.

I didn't see any of the game but IF Sully was right then our defensive situation is in more dire straits than I thought. I know the cat probably needs to get acclimated to the "system" if there is one, but how did 30 shot get to him in a period and a half. And how did they have SO many penalties? Thet woulda been hard for any goalie to deal with.
Ratty 09-26-2003, 06:17 PM Agreed. But Hasek took a year off, and he didn't show much rust.
It's not just the Detroit game, but the Pit game as well. He's allowed thirteen goals so far in two appearances.
He should't get all of the blame. But he doesn't deserve the remark the rookie coach made.

How can they mean nothing when so many jobs are on the line? Exhibition games are where a good coach establishes his system, instills confidence and a winning attitude.
Why do you think the Bruins charge the same price for exhibition games as they do for regular season...and make the season ticket holders buy them?
Gee Wally 09-26-2003, 06:23 PM personally...I didn't see it...I'm not a great believer in Potvin either..
but I haven't read anything aside from that the whole team stunk the joint out in Detroit.
The Globe, Herald, and even I think the Bruins Home page had some quotes from Rolston and Stock saying something about all the guys knew they stunk,,,we're complacent..and had to take a long look in the mirror..
This team has some serious issue..absolutley...but I'm certainely not going to judge an entire season on one blowout,,
Hell I've seen HOFamers get blownout too.
It's if they do this for a consistent period of time that I'll lose it.
Ratty 09-26-2003, 06:29 PM I, too, am not going to throw out the season one one game. But it's the statement by the coach that really bothers me. If the whole team stunk, as Rolston and Stock said, why does the coach claim the goalies played well?
Sure everyone has to take the blame. But, lets be honest with the public. We're not stupid.
JoeIsAStud 09-26-2003, 07:05 PM How can they mean nothing when so many jobs are on the line? Exhibition games are where a good coach establishes his system, instills confidence and a winning attitude.
Was Joe Thornton's job on the line? How about Sergei Samsonov? Dan McGillis?
Sure for some of the young players, these games mean a lot, and jobs are on the line. And from amny accounts several of the young players who are fighting for jobs ahd a decent night against Detroit,
Black Eye 09-26-2003, 08:59 PM Ratty, point taken. I'm not saying that the players should not be going full bore or that there is no importance to these games. What I'm trying to say is that a) it's one game and b) if they put on a stinker of a game now, it doesn't cost them. I'm guessing that fans are nervous that this team could be a bad one - so games like Detroit set off the worst fears. But it's just one game. They won tonight... I still believe we need to wait 20 games to even begin to understand this team.
