Very good article, thanks for posting it.

Oren Eizenman is one of my favorite players to watch over in the ECACHL. It's a pity that not many people know about him because he's a wonderful hockey player.

Peter Ihnacak (if he goes to watch his son Brian play often) should be very familiar with Oren, because both his (Oren's) and Brian's teams play in the same conference and face one another at least twice a year.

Eizenman went to my high school and was a phenomenal player. He is Canadian, but I think his parents(or maybe even him) were born in Israel.

awsome articles...both of them.

Israeli hockey, thats news to me :yo: exciting stuff! Doesn't surprise me one bit, seeing how big the russian movement to Israel is. I'm 90% sure Roger Nielsen provided the funding for the hockey rink and gave clinics there. His wife was israeli/jewish.

fyi my name is Oren too :D

Not his wife but close. He was never married. Roger certainly did give some quality time to israel and its nice to see some development there.

Former Habs coach Jean Perron coaches (Past Tense, Maybe) their national teams.

Their biggest star is Max Birbraer.

There. That's all I know about Israeli hockey.

For those who don't know, the Israeli national team is playing in the Spartak (pre-season) tournament in Russia. Teams include Spartak Moscow, Khimik Voskresensk, Neman Grodno, the Viena Capitals, the Ukraine selects and Israel.

Its pretty cool. :yo:
Here are some pics-

I got to watch Birbraer when he was with the Laredo Bucks a couple seasons ago. He is from Kazakhstan originally, if I am not mistaken, then moved to Israel or something like that.

He was also a fantastic baseball player. Oren was on the all star team I coached back in the mid 90's when he was still living in Toronto Canada. ( I now coach high school baseball in Southern California.) The only reason Oren didn't end up professional baseball was because like a true Canadian hockey always came first for him.

I'll never forget the day when after another typical batting practice where Oren hammered everything in sight we (the coaching staff) decided to see what Oren could truly do. So we cranked up the pitching machine to 85 miles per hour, let the kid see a few pitches, and then Oren stepped into the box. Pitch after pitch came whizzing by, and pitch after pitch were hammered dead center field, most of them easily clearing the fence. It wasn't long before the bantam age players caught notice and came over to the diamond to watch. With mouths gaping open we watched Oren put on a display the likes of which I haven't seen to this day (even in southern California). Then two years later he quit baseball to focus on hockey.

I regret that I never had the opportunity to watch him play. But if he is as good a hockey player as he was a baseball player then I pity the team he is playing against.

in Israel?Yes, there are quite a few Canadians working to help the sport in Israel, including the late Roger Nielson and currently Jean Perron.

You can read more about all of them here (http://www.internationalhockeygang.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=53)

It's so cool that hockey is getting bigger in Israel, I always wondered what the quality of play over there was.

Also, Israel definately has one of the most awesome jerseys ever. I once read this whole article about how hockey in I believe it was Mongolia or Indonesia was getting bigger. Max Birbraer is actually Ukrainian I think and then moved to Israel, and eventually Canada where he was drafted by the Devils I think it was. If any of you guys want to check out a really cool website, check this:

Yes, Maxim was drafted by New Jersey.
IIRC, there was some issue regarding his service in the Israeli army, but he did play for the Devils organization. The last I heard about him, he was with Florida.
