Yep.........Chicago is south of Lake Michigan and Calgary is south of Edmonton.

You know, the only reason the Leafs are #5 is b/c of you! :teach: How many threads do you start a day...
Evilo 09-27-2003, 11:00 AM Interesting to see the Pens fan being knocked for lack of support by dummies, and yet we're very active... and to boot our team sucks...
What happened to those Islander fans? Didnt that board used to be pretty active? :dunno:
Team_Spirit 09-27-2003, 11:22 AM Montreal : 14,711 post ... one one has 10,000 !
Also it's only 5,000 less than the National Hockey League Talk
Histrion 09-27-2003, 11:24 AM Yeah, Montreal definitly has the bigger fan base here, and it explain a lot of those drolls that make us look bad. There's downside and upside at being such a large group of fans...
Surprising to see the Pen's and Pred's board being so active, nice to see!

Quality counts, not quantity.
Never knew Miami was north of Calgary, D.C., Chicago...

Now now, I never said there weren't exceptions to the rule.
Anyway....with the exception of teams like Pittsburgh and Nashville, this is a pretty good representation of how well off teams are financially right now.

Who cares? There will be fans of all teams scattered all over the internet.
New Jersey was never by any means in the top 10 popularity-wise in the league, so it's no suprise they aren't here either.

We already were 5th before Monkey registered... Although he did get us quite close to the Bruins :p
May it be that part of the reason of the Habs board having a lot of posts is that quite a few fans are francophone and prefer to stay on the teamboard instead of posting on the general boards?
LaVal 09-27-2003, 03:01 PM WOOHOO
the 3 top active teams are Canadian, and we own 4 out of the 5 top spots.

Not really. Just a lot of Hab fans stick to the Hab board and ignore the rest as we end up reporting most signings/trades there anyhow. Also, Hab fans sometimes get a bad rap on the main forums. The Hab board has evolved into more of its own community as a result, which has become quite nice.

How come Dallas and Minnesota are so low? They must have very good boards of their own where their fans stay most of the time.

Sotnos 09-27-2003, 05:16 PM How come Dallas and Minnesota are so low? They must have very good boards of their own where their fans stay most of the time.
Most teams do, yet some people want to draw conclusions from team placements on these boards.
ObeySteve 09-27-2003, 06:13 PM How come Dallas and Minnesota are so low? They must have very good boards of their own where their fans stay most of the time.
Dallas and Minnesota have little fanbase in general compared to most other NHL teams. Minnesota is still too new at this point and Dallas isn't exactly in a superb location for hockey.
TVanek26* 09-27-2003, 08:11 PM Sabres are around middle of the pack...that's fine by me.
So we're in the middle of the list. I rather like to think we on the Wings boards prefer quality over quantity. :teach:
Skydog 09-27-2003, 08:26 PM Hurricanes are dead last here and who's to blame the fans for not coming here, there has been one update on the team in the last year. There are, however, 521 registered members on fanhome.com where the Canes forum is ranked 3rd behind Toronto and Montreal.
ehc73 09-27-2003, 08:28 PM Whoa, you mean Modano=God doesn't keep the Stars board in the top 10? I'm shocked. :joker:
Evilo 09-27-2003, 11:15 PM Hey every team has a good board outside HF.
Most Pens fans go to letsgopens.com, which is a pretty good site.
This shouldn't count against the traffic here.

Who you kidding? The Stars have a HUGE fanbase.. Their official website just has one of the most succesful and organised message boards compared with most. It has thousands of members.. Then they also have Andrews, the site that has your Stars news quicker then any other, it has statistics, salaries, stories, recaps, previews, links, and a message board, with probably around thousand members on his own..
THEN you have HF.. So for Stars fans, HF is often the 3rd choice, hence the low fanbase rate.

There may be more at Metro but the quality is horendous!
Here at HF on the Isles board there is way more quality then quantity. :handclap:
tom_servo 09-28-2003, 07:08 AM Aside from LetsGoPens.com, the Pens' official site had over 10,000 registered members before the admins wiped clean the slate.

The Wild is a new team, but Minnesotans have been hockey fans for decades. They're not new to the NHL, either, with the North Stars up until ten years ago. They might be the most hockey-crazed state in the country.
SmokeyClause 09-28-2003, 11:56 AM Surprising to see the Pen's and Pred's board being so active, nice to see!
Yup, the Preds have a great following here. By far the best of the expansion teams, I wish we could draw alot of posters away from the Preds website (they have several thousand members) and towards a far better board in HF.

And that's not including silly habs fans posts (like mine) on general boards that have little interest for non-habs fans.
ObeySteve 10-02-2003, 12:40 PM Um, who are all those people selling out the games in Minnesota then?
There is more to a fanbase and making revenue than just those who attend the games.
KOMO_ROCKS 10-02-2003, 12:41 PM Montreal boards dominate as far as posts go

You actually believe Minnesota even has a chance of hockey being more popular with the mainstream people there compared to Michigan?

http://www.tpgsports.com/hockey/images/mhj_feb02_cover.jpg
"The most widely distributed hockey publication in a state where hockey is more than a sport – it is a culture. An official publication of Minnesota Hockey, the statewide governing body, MHJ covers virtually every facet of the hockey lifestyle – bringing to life the people, places and things that weave hockey into the fabric of Minnesota."
Doesn't seem like hockey is just a niche sport up there, to me. So yes, obviously they can compete with Michigan. I'll look for some hard statistics.
tom_servo 10-02-2003, 12:49 PM I have a hard time understanding how you could not know how popular hockey is in Minnesota. Tons of NHL players have come from there.
thestonedkoala 10-02-2003, 12:51 PM You should go to boards.wild.com or where it is, some pretty good posters there that hate hfboards.
Oilers Hockey 10-02-2003, 12:59 PM I've been to the Wild boards, they are all so....sweet! Friendliest board in the league.
Sotnos 10-02-2003, 02:17 PM There is more to a fanbase and making revenue than just those who attend the games.
Oh yeah, there are things like dominating hockey message boards too, a sure sign that a team is making lots of money.
Anyway, why is it hard to believe that they are rabid about hockey in Minnesota?
