gameface 07-05-2005, 10:49 PM This one may have been discussed before, but I was too lazy to look into it.
I don't really talk too much about playing hockey in my youth (I'm now 40), but when the above-mentioned topic comes up, I've got some interesting names to throw out.
The only player I've played with that ever made the NHL was a Bruins draft choice who only had a cup of coffee - Doug Kostynski. I've played against some though. Cam Neely of Maple Ridge. Brett Hull at North Shore Winter Club. Cliff Ronning at Burnaby Winter Club. There were a few others that played a couple of games, but that's about it.
Funny thing about Hull. When he was 15 or thereabouts, he was a little roly-poly who couldn't skate but had a Howitzer of a shot. From all the slagging I see him taking on these boards, he must have returned to that shape.
Ronning had all the talent in the world but everybody thought his size would hold him back.
Neely was OK (played rep in what, at the time, wasn't too good of an organization), but really blossomed when he hit Midget. Once he got to Portland, he was pretty much unstoppable.
Habsfan 32 07-05-2005, 11:39 PM I'm too young to have played against guys in the NHL at the moment but I've played against Mark Katic for 5 seasons. Katic is a future first round pick in the NHL.
ProctorSilex 07-06-2005, 12:28 AM Played with: Travis Roche, Jordin Tootoo, Rocky Thompson (Rocky just in pickup games at the rink and street hockey).
Against: Justin Cox, Mike Comrie, Joffry Lupul
sveiglar 07-06-2005, 01:15 PM Sharks pick and Sens farmhand Jesse Fibiger skated a few times at the rink where me and my buddy played pickup; he and some other college guys (none I recognized) who were all from around the local area (Victoria, BC) would show up after the college season. They all usually stuck to themselves at one end of the rink and shot on their goalie, but once they scrimmaged with us peons. Night and day in terms of skill; it was quite an eye-opener.
Habsaholic 07-06-2005, 01:46 PM I have played against John LeClair in a HS tournament. He mustve developed late because I was a better player than him, one thing he had was one hell of a slapshot. He was also very disciplined. I also played against some of the Bruins in the early 90s as a walk on try out.
GentlemanOfLeisure 07-06-2005, 03:08 PM I played on a line with Shane Doan and Cliff Ronning. On NHL 98 for the playstation. had 35 goals and 40 assists.
Le Golie 07-06-2005, 03:55 PM In the last couple weeks I've played with/against a few in a summer pickup skate session. They are petty much prospects just staying in shape. Eric Fehr, Alex Steen, Owen Fussey and a few more.
Two years ago I played a season with Craig Millar - the guy who Edmonton traded Miro Satan for.
In midget I played against a couple guys who were drafted really high - Scott Kelman and Jeff Hereema, but neither turned out to be successful, although Hereema still has a chance to play.
And I skate once in a while with a group of ex-Jets, Thomas Steen is sometimes out, another old goon named Perry Miller is there - funny, funny man.
That's all I can remember right now, I'm probably missing a few.
Hyack57 07-06-2005, 04:18 PM I played in the same arena but not against or with Rob Niedermayer.... girlfriend went to school with Brad Lukowich and Cam Ondrik.
PanthersRule96 07-06-2005, 06:48 PM Just skated with Berezin like a month ago. Um......i dont think anyone else, I'm too young though to have played against anyone like that.
ProctorSilex 07-06-2005, 07:55 PM It's kind of funny about almost all our stories and how you'd never expect some guys to make it where they did. Travis Roche for example was a average at best player here, but he worked his ass off and deserves everything he got. Justin Cox used to be a joke around our team "that kid that acts like he can stickhandle but just slaps his stick on the ice really loud".
But then again, Mike Comrie was amazing, he burned us bad once and got a good 6 goals, I remember just trying to stop him but he'd break my ankles turning me inside out. God I hate that guy.
Scottkmlps 07-06-2005, 08:07 PM Played against Chris Pronger when I was younger and living in Ontario.
DJmastamind 07-06-2005, 09:15 PM Played against Ryan Malone and RJ Umberger in HS
ProctorSilex 07-06-2005, 09:18 PM I never even thought about it until I saw his name a couple minutes ago, but my bantam team played against some Ukraine Select team that travelled all over Alberta. Only one on the team that made it anywhere was Dainus Zubrus.
He actually fought our goalie Blair in the first period and they were both kicked out, so I never got to see how good he was, but I remember the buzz going in.
Hyped 07-06-2005, 09:36 PM In minor hockey, I played against Patrick Marleau, Curtis Brown, Jeff Friesen, Lynn Loyns, Cam Severson, lots of minor leaguers (too many to mention). Only ever played with one guy though and he's currently only in Worcester (I guess Peoria now), Blake Evans.
In men's league hockey, I've played against many in our summer league: Sean Brown, Joffrey Lupul, Brian Sutherby, Georges Laraque (with and against), Brant Myhres, Cory Cross, Kurt Lackton, etc...Geez, can't remember any others, but I know there were more. It's a good summer league with many junior and NHLers coming back to play.
Oh and in an exhibition game, we played this Russian select under 18 team with a 15 year old by the name of Fedor Fedorov.
Always fun to lace 'em up against these guys...
*EDIT* Just thought of Cam Severson...
FLYLine24* 07-06-2005, 10:53 PM I played on a line with Shane Doan and Cliff Ronning. On NHL 98 for the playstation. had 35 goals and 40 assists.
JeffW 07-06-2005, 11:49 PM Coached youth league with Alain Lemieux (Mario's brother)
Habsfan 32 07-07-2005, 12:22 AM Coached youth league with Alain Lemieux (Mario's brother)
That's my dad's name... :yo:
GoBoltz56 07-07-2005, 12:59 AM I'm playing on a team with Sergei Gusev right now here in Tampa, and played with Rudy Poeschek in nationals 2 years ago. I've played against a team that Ted Nolan was coaching in a tournament a few years ago, and his son Brandon who plays for Manitoba was playing for them. I played against Paul Stastny in juniors 2 years ago, he'll probably be a 1st rounder this year, maybe 2nd rounder.
Wild Thing 07-07-2005, 04:32 PM I used to play with and against Neal Broten and Steve Christoff at the Bloomington Ice Gardens, the year after they won the gold at Lake Placid and just before they went pro. Soctty Bugstad and Aaron Broten played sometimes, too, but Neal was there every night. The guy was a rink rat. Best player I every skated against, by far. Made me look absolutely foolish one day.
firstroundbust 07-07-2005, 08:31 PM Sean Toomey, who played on a line with Brett Hull at UMD, then with the north stars...and I just skated with AJ Thelen, 12th overall in the 04 draft
arrbez 07-07-2005, 08:56 PM I helped out at Tretiak's goalie school a couple years ago, and I sniped a sweet goal on Nabokov. He was having a horrible day and all the kids were scoring on him, it was hillarious, I don't think he wanted to be there
DaveyCrockett 07-07-2005, 09:22 PM I've played with/against Mike Zigomanis and Raffi Torres at shinny.
eaton28 07-07-2005, 09:30 PM too young for NHL guys but i have played agianst a few players that got drafted to the OHL, Yves Bastien, Ryan Crouch, Justin Levec, Cory McGillis, Christian Cundari, and Danny Battochio
Twist and Shout 07-07-2005, 10:53 PM The only NHL player I've played with is Stevie Weiss.
As for NHL quality prospects, I've played against several including Sydney Crosby, Alexander Picard, while playing with Patrick O'Sullivan, Chad Painchaud, Kyle Quincey, David Shantz.
mattihp 07-08-2005, 04:18 AM I never even thought about it until I saw his name a couple minutes ago, but my bantam team played against some Ukraine Select team that travelled all over Alberta. Only one on the team that made it anywhere was Dainus Zubrus.
He actually fought our goalie Blair in the first period and they were both kicked out, so I never got to see how good he was, but I remember the buzz going in.
Zubrus has had nothing to do with the Ukraine. He's lithuanian and plays for Russia.
cjbhab 07-08-2005, 09:30 AM I havent played with any NHLers, but my friend played with Jarett Stoll and I went to watch my friend play with stoll when they were in peewee playing for the Yorkton Terriers. Stoll stuck out and you could see right then and there he was going to the NHL, he was a star in that league.
I also met Nolan Baumgartner, but he sucks.
I am also related to Jody Lehman, never went NHL, but was the first goalie to score a goal on european ice. The stick and puck is in the hall.
TORRUS 07-08-2005, 09:45 AM Although hes still a prospect I played against Kopitar.
ProctorSilex 07-08-2005, 09:55 AM Zubrus has had nothing to do with the Ukraine. He's lithuanian and plays for Russia.

"The most famous Druzhba youngster is NHLer Dainius Zubrus, who doesn't feel Pravilov abused the kids."
canadahockeygirl* 07-08-2005, 10:31 AM I've played pickup with and against a bunch of guys in both high school and college. Too many names to regurgitate, and most are or will be career AHLers.
Raven25 07-08-2005, 10:34 AM Just 1 -played against Brad Bombardir when he was with the Powell River Paper Kings of the BCJHL in my humbling 2 -game stint in Junior A hockey as a call-up from Junior B.
My buddy and teammate hanging out at my pad right now played against Patrick Marleau in Saskatchewan and said he was otherworldly good, single-handedly destroyed their team on more than one occasion
Calgary_Moe 07-08-2005, 11:42 AM My buddy has a funny story about playing with Darren McCarty when he was young.
I guess, as the story goes, McCarty was quite the scorer as a youth hockey player and he broke his stick out on the ice. Darren skated towards the bench calling for a stick. No one offered theirs except my buddy. (NOTE: My friend is 5'6" and McCarty is 6'1" now). So McCarty is skating away from the bench just staring at the stick (much shorter than his was), but he followed play down the ice and scored with it. When he came back to the bench, as he was giving my friend his stick back, he says, "Never give me your stick again..."
Its pretty funny the way my friend tells it, but that's it.

Wierd o_O what's his connection to Ukraine?
ProctorSilex 07-08-2005, 12:14 PM I have no idea, I never gave it a second thought until you pointed it out today. I think I read on that druzba page that they take "eastern european players" not so much as just Ukrainians with them.
Melanson 07-08-2005, 12:58 PM I've played pickup here in Florida with Ray Ferraro's 2 younger brothers (they were twins). I think they both got some time in the NHL with Pittbsburgh, Philly and the Rangers.
I played on a team with Jarrod Skalde who played with the Devils and Mighty Ducks. He could dominate if he wanted to but basically took it easy on the other team....much to my dismay.
A bunch of players from the IHL's Solar Bears (now defunct) used to play in our leagues during the offseason.
Kavliary2000 07-08-2005, 01:31 PM Played with:
Ramzi Abid..he was a 4th liner on my Midget AAA team
Dany Groulx..DET owns his rights..is doing very well in AHL..but will likely only be a career AHLer
Played Againts: Mike Ribeiro

Both were also with the Bruins and one or both were possibly with the Coyotes as well, I think.
petrobruin 07-08-2005, 02:16 PM I get to play p/u every fri in the summer with Steve Ruchin<Jason Williams>Andy Macdonald>Brian Cambell and a few minor leagers in London .
What a blast i get pumped every friday!

in between
Im lovin it
Petr :handclap:
Cropduster 07-08-2005, 02:57 PM I played 2 full summer seasons with Torrey Diroberto (he played in a few pre-season Ducks games, does that count?) and played against Noah Clarke, but he has only suited for 1 or 2 NHL games so far.
Guess I have only played against local talent not of the caliber you guys have played against/with
nikolai19 07-08-2005, 04:33 PM Funny crop!
I know Diro and played against Noah. Played against Gabe Gauthier and Ryan Hollweg a few years back in roller.
Played roller with Jim Thomson and Darren Langdon when he was with the RHI

They're not related to Ray Ferraro. They're from somewhere in New York, I think. Ray Ferraro is from Trail, BC. I forgot to mention that I played against him too.

HFNHL Canadiens 07-08-2005, 06:09 PM I have played shinny with Danny Syvret's younger brother Cory in Carlisle. Cory got drafted in the first round of the OHL priority draft by London, the team Danny plays on, if Danny stays as an overager they will play together.
Ri hards 07-08-2005, 06:21 PM Bill Ranford plays with a group of guys at my arena pretty regularly...except he plays out, and still blows them away.
The Nemesis 07-08-2005, 07:58 PM I haven't played with or against anyone, but one of my friends played with Gilbert Brule a few years ago.
AG9NK35DT8* 07-09-2005, 09:16 AM Well I work with a guy who played with Robbie schremp, Tim Conolly and Rob Scuderi and I also believe Mark Eaton . Now he plays on NYC's Local 608 Ice hockey team, the kid is damn good about 5'9" and about 190 bulit like a brick **** house.

Well well. Lets not forget he's Lithuanian and played for them this year in Div1. Played for Russia at the World Cup. Not your thread man.
Canadian Chris 07-09-2005, 04:07 PM until this past summer, I've skated, with, and played pickup with Dan Hamhuis and Derek Booguard on a regular basis over the past 3 years. Hammy is in PG quite often, Booguard obviously not so much, but he was usually on the ice with us a during the summer months a couple years ago.
Olaf Kolzig and Byron Dafoe were 2 goalies one night when we had the ice...THAT was a blast shooting on them
when I played Jr. B, I fought, and successfully got my ass handed to me by Darren McLachlan. That one still hurts to think about. He played for Campbell River, I played in Comox...the following year, Campbell River had John Deccaro in Net...went on to play at Ferris State, as well as Brock Hooten who went to the St. Cloud Huskies after playing in the BCHL and was drafted by the Sens...
Also played with Justin Cox and a bunch of other Prince George Cougars and Spruce Kings during the summer months while they were here
Aerolanche 07-09-2005, 04:40 PM Kari Lehtonen, Antero Niittymaki, Fredrik Norrena, David LeNeveu, Mike Stutzel...

EDIT: Forgot Crowder.

I really wish I had something that told me what players I played against when I went to Europe. We spent 4 days in Sweden and 4 days in Finland playing against teams when we were there....if only I could remember who we played.
Like Dyanamix though, also went to a Camp with LeNeveu and Mike Stutzel - a former PG Spruce King if I do recall correctly.
Tap on the Ankle 07-09-2005, 07:27 PM Closest I've ever come to playing with an NHL player is when I played with Eric Marsh (Brad Marsh's son) about 7 or 8 years ago. Though I am friends with a goalie (who currently plays Jr. B) who used to play against Rick Nash.
Mxpunk 07-10-2005, 09:12 AM Since I'm in California, not many....Just Anson Carter, Marty McSorely, Steve McKenna, Ian Laperriere and Stephane Fiset...
Does Nick Vachon count?!?
Hyped 07-10-2005, 06:37 PM My buddy and teammate hanging out at my pad right now played against Patrick Marleau in Saskatchewan and said he was otherworldly good, single-handedly destroyed their team on more than one occasion
He was pretty good, no denying it, but they were a one man team so we never had any trouble with them. Though Marleau was the only reason the games were somewhat close.
Minor leaguer, Chad Hinz, was a very good minor hockey player too. He was average size at the time but built super-solid. he was tough to move in front of the net.
I still think Curtis Brown was the more dominant player in minor hockey (at least that I played against). Of course, I was a Pee-wee playing up with the Bantams at that time so he may have looked that much better simply because of that...
Accord 07-14-2005, 04:34 PM Ed Jovonovski and Denis Potvin.
Both of them played in my beer league and there are also about 5-6 NHL refs and linesman in my league as well.
Nfumass 07-19-2005, 11:06 PM Ive played against a ton of guys that have been drafted off the top of my head, mike ryan, billy ryan, brian collins, rob fried, trevor byrne(dislocated my jaw w/ an elbow),adam pinault, jon dislavatore,Ryan Glenn, Rob Bellamy, Jim Fahey, Sean Collins, among others...
I played juniors w/ james pemberton, eric lundberg, mark mccutcheon, colin mcdonald...
I played HNIB against eddie caron, mike woodford and whoever else might have been in that tourny that year...
gregg johnson, peter zingoni play on my summer team sometimes right now,
we Play against this summer, greg mauldin, steve werner, Pj Fenton, couple others who have been drafted that i cant think of right now...
zamboni 07-20-2005, 12:31 AM Well I've never played with or against anyone, but I did skate with Stoll, Torres, and the rest of the Roadrunners on the same day I met Ryan Smyth.
DisgruntledHawkFan 07-20-2005, 02:03 AM Craig Anderson and Stephan Baby.
Cerebral 07-20-2005, 02:16 AM I played minor hockey in Calgary with Mike Egener and Brady Murray. Neither of them are in the league yet but both should play a few games at least...
hossy316 07-20-2005, 09:13 AM Played against Brad Richards and with Morgan Warren who was drafted by the Leafs and played with St. John's for 3 years. He's now playing in Germany and in the summer on my softball team as well!
trahans99 07-20-2005, 10:21 AM I grew up in WInnipeg playing street and ice hockey w/ Scott Kelman - 15th overall selection in 1999 by Phoenix. He ended up being a bust and is still in minors (ECHL/AHL).
ktownhockey 07-20-2005, 01:24 PM Played with: Jay McClement, Nate Robinson, John tripp, Mike Smith in Shinny.. and pick up summer hockey.
played against in minor hockey: Derek Roy, Stephen Weiss, Steve Eminger, Carlo Colaiacovo, Ben Eager, Eric Himmelfarb all from Ottawa or the GTHL. Good teams back then as well.
ktownhockey 07-20-2005, 01:25 PM Im from Kingston so only got to play them in tournaments and summer hockey.
petrskudra1 07-20-2005, 02:35 PM Went to a stick time at Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh two summers ago and got to skate with Mario, Mark Recchi and R.J. Umberger. Best feeling in the world when Mario passed me the puck, I felt like picking up the puck and putting it in a glass case.
CH Wizard* 07-20-2005, 02:47 PM I played against Alex Biega...in bantam...this guy is gonna be a franchise player in the NHL.
I played with Ribeiro, in an outdoor game. Also, Steve Begin came to see us play in the playoffs, last year.
I wanted to make midget espoirs or AAA but there's too much competition.I won't play with/vs stars for a year or so (because I'm gonna play MIdget BB, next year).
balddog66 07-25-2005, 08:13 AM Played road hockey with Wayne Primeau, (lived with a friend in highschool)
and played ice hockey with Curtis Sanford from St.L. He was two years younger than us, I was 8 at the time, his dad was coaching and he got stuck playing net because of his age...decade and a half later he's got an NHL contract to play net...maybe I should have given it a try....lol
Seachd 07-25-2005, 12:03 PM Well well. Lets not forget he's Lithuanian and played for them this year in Div1. Played for Russia at the World Cup. Not your thread man.

Gauthier will go pro, have played against him. Bobby Ryan, Glenn Anderson, Bruce Driver, Keny Daneyko, Danny Genovese could go pro.

Michal Pivonka
Alan May
Yvon Labre

Shawn Simpson (guess he doesnt really count either)
Pantokrator 07-26-2005, 10:17 AM I've played ball (road/street) hockey with Kevin McCarthy who was assistant coach of the Canes at the time. He had a wicked shot, but limited mobility since he has bum knees. He never passed though, just shot his mean blast.
With Jonathan Hedström (anh)
against The Sedins, Kristian Huselius, Marcus Nilsson
Moneil18 07-27-2005, 12:00 PM I have played against the Predators coaches and staff, including Barry Trotz, Brent Peterson, Paul Gardner, David Poille and Ray Shero. Peterson, Gardner and Shero are former NHLer's

Played with /against numerous college players out of the Boston Area.
My brother played against Keith Thachuk in high school
nneate 07-27-2005, 08:13 PM Played with and against Don Sweeney of the stars, hes from my hometown St. Stephen :D
ItsAllThere 07-31-2005, 12:59 AM I guess the best player I ever played against was Jere Lehtinen, when he was 16. I've actually played against him 2 or 3 times. The thing I remember him best about, is that he had an incredibly quick release on his shot.
I have also had the chance to play against Juha Lind and Sami Helenius.
Pielsman 07-31-2005, 09:16 AM I once played in a pick-up game against Doug Flutie.
He's a lot better at other sports...but he seemed cool. :)

mikeyd114 07-31-2005, 01:52 PM Ive trained with many NHL goalies...Theodore, Hackett, Belfour, Cujo, Healy, there are some more but im having a tough time remembering :P
Played floor hockey in high school with Kip Brennan, Derik MacKenzie and Brian McGratton. Brennan and McGratton were very intimidating to the rest of us skinny high school kids. MacKenzie was making everyone look bad so we made him play goalie. Former LA King Jim Fox's brother was my gym teacher.
CoupeStanley 07-31-2005, 07:05 PM Played street hockey with Steve Begin.
Played often against Habs prospect Michael Lambert.
Galchenkel 07-31-2005, 09:15 PM while we were both 14, i played with Luc Bourdon at Charlie Bourgeois' hockey school in Moncton. He was so impressive, by the skills he had for a D-man of his size, and that's why i told myself to always remember his name 'cause i knew he was going to play high-level hockey. i knew him personnaly, he was such a great guy, but never talked to him since.
Default101 07-31-2005, 10:09 PM This is kinda early but still NHL draft picks... played a few months on hte same team as Barrie Colts/ Dallas Stars B.J. Crombeen, and Mississauga Ice Dogs/Florida Panthers John Hecimovic was my line mate for a year... also i'm related to Bobby Gould on my mother's side, and i've met dino ciccarelli, pat verbeek, paul yzabaert as people my dad used to play against
MacDaddy TLC* 07-31-2005, 10:37 PM Played with Brent Peterson (the Tampa Lightning one, not the Sabre)
Playing against Wawa, I had a break away and some arse was chopping at my ankles the whole way up the ice. Well after the play I followed him a little bit up the ice and as he turned I hacked the SOB. He crawled to the bench and I'm sure I had to have broke his ankle. From that point on I was hunted. Well Simon got me. I was about 8-10 feet away from the boards and I swear it must have been like what happens when you get hit by a car. I was never hit that hard in my life! I could breathe in but not out until my team's trainer came on the ice and grabbed me under my arms and droppped me on my ass about 3 times on the ice until I started breathing again. After the game I looked in the tournament program for the name of the train that ran me over: it was Chris Simon. I made sure not to forget the name or number just in case we ran into Wawa again.
I played with a lot of guys that played in the USHL and NCAA.
GermanDevil 07-31-2005, 10:52 PM Four Years ago I played roller hockey vs. former NHL-player Bill Lochead! One season later, we played together in one team...
Bill Lochead => http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=3173
nikebauer 08-01-2005, 04:07 AM I played on a line with Shane Doan and Cliff Ronning. On NHL 98 for the playstation. had 35 goals and 40 assists.

Freddie Mercury 08-11-2005, 02:59 PM One of my cousins played against Mark Messier way back when he was in Atom or whatever they called it. That is about it, though.
Kruky 08-11-2005, 03:54 PM I trained with Theodore when we were like 7 years old. Also played against Gilbert Delorme. (He was the special guest at the rep tryouts) when I was 8 years old.
I backed up Marc Lamothe (Redwings back up goalie) in my first high school year. Although I never played a game. Also that year I practice with at least 3 or 4 players that played in the QMJHL. Don't remember their names though. But I remember their slapshots. Ouch.
TheAnalogKid 08-11-2005, 04:34 PM I remember a lesser used Avalanche player came to drop in hockey one morning when I was living in Denver. I think he was a slow-footed goon, maybe Francois Leroux? I'll have to phone my buddy and ask him.
Of course (wink, wink) I taught Gretzky everything he knows...
nyrmessier011 08-11-2005, 04:50 PM I played on a line with Shane Doan and Cliff Ronning. On NHL 98 for the playstation. had 35 goals and 40 assists.
:biglaugh: I remember playing on a line with, I think, Mike Gartner and Mark Messier in NHL '93. I seriously went 81-1-2 or something...back when they played 84 games lol...those games were cake if you had a fast player (i always made my speed a 99) and got that one move down right on your breakaways...you could score 12 goals a game just that way.
jiggs 10 08-12-2005, 05:13 PM I played against fromer Jet Brad Berry is men's league the past several seasons.
Buya89 08-12-2005, 05:22 PM Bobby Ryan
Jim Dowd
JDB3939 08-12-2005, 05:24 PM Shean Donovan came to pickup one night at a local rink. Just the skill even grinders have is insane. He was the mostly insanely skilled player I've ever been on the ice with and he had horrible hands in the NHL. That really made me realize how good all the all stars are. And how insane the skill level of guys like Mario and Forsberg really is.
played floor hockey with the Sedins and Skurdra
Daniel passed to me and i shot a top corner over the canucks whale thing
it was sweet
UvBnDatsyuked 08-14-2005, 08:00 AM Played against Blaine Stoughton, one of only two players to score 50 goals in both NHL and WHA, played on a Beer League team for a few years. His first two steps were amazing and his changing of speeds going through the neutral zone pretty much made every D man look like a hack.
Also played with Gilbert Dionne. He came for a mens league game and was sort of embarassed to show his skills. He kept saying that he just wanted to play defense and distribute the puck. We talked him into not holding back for just one shift when we had two men in the box and it was a sight to see. 5 on 3 and he scored two goals in about 20 seconds.
Canadian Game 08-16-2005, 06:35 PM I can't remember who I've played against, but I've played on the same team in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta with Joffery Lupul. He was friggin quick and a wicked shooter. After a hockey game in Grande Prairie(lived there later on) and I saw his parent sin the crowd and visited with him after a game at his hockey tournament up north. I've also played with a guy named Cory Stillman (not thecurrent NHLer). He's 22 and signed with the Toronto Marlies but was injured when he signed, so I still haven't seen him ont he roster sheet but it was in the papers. Previously he played for Kingston and Barrie in the OHL.
Other than that I've skated with Darcy Lowen (young Ottawa Sen around '94 and took a slap shot off the mask that blew the helmet to peices), Brent Sutter, Bill Ranford, and can't remember the rest.
MykeAbner 08-17-2005, 09:39 PM I don't play hockey at all but my dad used to coach when we lived in Trail. Tom Renney (I think) was his assistant for a while. He knew a lot of people too, but I'm not really sure who. I was too young at the time to remember and I haven't really asked since.
mazmin 08-17-2005, 10:07 PM I played house league with and against a very young Alexander Steen. I also played against with and against Randy Carlyle's son (Craig) and Andy Murray's son Brady.
Oh, and I played ballhockey against Teemu Selanne back when he was all the rage.
allin4466 08-17-2005, 11:07 PM played against quite a few picks in Travis Zajac, Kyle Chipchura, Tyler Plante, Ryan Reaves, Nigel Dawes, Joe Barnes, Brodie Dupont
Fravashis 08-17-2005, 11:13 PM I work in a grocery store, and I saw Rick Nash picking out pasta sauce ... does that count?

Dave
Scoogs 08-18-2005, 12:17 AM Nathan Horton.
Saint Teemu 08-18-2005, 08:54 AM I've played pick-up hockey with a couple of guys who were drafted or went to one or two training camps.
Otherwise...
I ate breakfast in the same Perkins as Tomas Steen.
I sold smokes to Dale Hawerchuk at the golf course I worked at.
Mike Foligno made fun of me for having trouble opening the door to the bench while I was at his hockey school. (I was too young to give him stick over his stupid hippity-hop goal celebration.)
Ric Flair 08-18-2005, 11:29 AM I remember playing on a line with, I think, Mike Gartner and Mark Messier in NHL '93.
If I'm not mistaken, the create player feature wasn't part of the games until NHL '95.
Barbara Underhill 08-18-2005, 12:19 PM I have played with Murray Craven on occasion, he also used to take the ice during my high school practices and pass to us and stuff, nothing real amazing. still plays pick up hockey at the same rink I do havn't played with him for awhile.
Phousse 08-18-2005, 06:01 PM Johnny Bower and someone that looked almost identical to Teemu Selanne except his name was Derek..
Canadian Game 08-18-2005, 06:56 PM I work in a grocery store, and I saw Rick Nash picking out pasta sauce ... does that count?
Remindsme of last fall when Steve Larmer walked into Bell World in Peterborough. I sold him an Express View receiver. That was pretty cool, but I've met him before at an All-Star party.
earthstar 08-18-2005, 07:22 PM Rod Brind'Amour when he was at Notre Dame.
Shane 08-18-2005, 09:57 PM Remindsme of last fall when Steve Larmer walked into Bell World in Peterborough. I sold him an Express View receiver. That was pretty cool, but I've met him before at an All-Star party.
Or that time Cliff Ronning bought a cup of coffee at the gas station I was working at.
NYRangers 08-19-2005, 01:11 AM I played roller hockey against Rick DiPietro, he played forward though.
Hockeylover 10-06-2005, 01:58 PM I've played street hockey with my uncle Jean-Guy Morissette in the 70's. He played only one game in the NHL, and it was for the Montreal Canadian on October 30, 1963, at the Maple Leafs Garden. Here are some photos I have collected. The first image is of him entering the game he played when he replaced Lord Worsley who had been injured in the second period. Morissette was himself injured when he received a puck in the face during a practice the next morning! Poor uncle!
The other photos are of him on a hockey card that was put on the market about 3 years ago, the next one is of him the Baltimore Clippers in the 60's and the last one with the Omaha Knights in around of 1963.
