The news conference is expected to be about a new business partner, and not the rumoured change in ownership.
So it looks like Abramovich was just a rumor..
I'm hoping that this means Bertuzzi was signed to a long term deal? The way they worded the article it looks doubtful though
Castor Troy 09-28-2003, 12:57 PM So it looks like Abramovich was just a rumor..
Not necessarily. If you read the article, the Canucks deny that the conference has to do with an ownership change . It says they are announcing a long-term new business partner. Abramovich could be the new business partner, while McCaw remains as part of ownership. On the other hand, with the amount of money Abramovich has, and his enthusiasm in owning an NHL franchise, you'd think he'd want to be majority owner. I wouldn't rule out Abramovich yet though. With McCaw retaining ownership, Abramovich would help out with the financing, but McCaw could make sure the team stayed in Vancouver.
Peter Griffin 09-28-2003, 12:59 PM Maybe Bertuzzi got traded ? He's getting traded this year Canuck fans , sorry to say .
Can I borrow your cystal ball?
Mr. Canucklehead 09-28-2003, 01:25 PM Probably either ownership or a player signing. My question: if Brian Burke called it, it's probably about the team. Otherwise the conference would have been called by John McCaw or Dave Cobb and Orca Bay, wouldn't it?

Now that does sound like the ideal situation for sure. :yo:

Initial reports are that it is an advertising/promotion team-up. Some large business infusing lots of cash into the Canucks for rights to use the players in their ads. Nothing big. Oh, and a trade for Marian Gaborik too. :p

Hmm, I wonder what company it is? Oh, and I'll miss Sopel, good luck in Minnesota! ;) :D

If you've ever been to the Canucks.com Trades and Rumors forum, you'd know that we can get any franchise player for Sopel, Chubarov, and a pick.. if they're really good, maybe two picks.

I posted there briefly, but couldn't stand the stupidity and complete lack of hockey knowledge. The only posters that are worthwhile responding to either post here or on fanhome's board. :)

So is Peter Forsberg, Marian Gaborik, Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo and Markus Naslund.

Let's all borrow his crystal ball.

I mostly stick to the off-topic forum there

They're all going to the Rangers and they'll fail to win the cup, barely squeezing into the the playoffs with the 8th seed. The eventual winners will be Calgary Flames where Stu Grimson comes out of retirement and signs a contract for $25 USD just before the playoffs and carries the team on his back.
New Jersey misses the playoffs and wins the Ovechkin derby that everybody on these boards is so hyped about, and the senators move to Tijuana, becoming the first mexican NHL team.
And pigs will fly.

I post there, and I have posted there since Jan.2002, and I agree, the complete lack of hockey knowledge, and homerism on that board is ridiculous.
Rageinthecage 09-29-2003, 08:25 AM According to a poster on another board, the press conference has something to do with BC Lotteries. A new "scratch and win" Canucks ticket with the team receiving a portion of the proceeds. In other words, a small concession to Burke's biggest project since taking the GM job. Great news if in fact true.

Hell yeah, it could mean as much as four to five million dollars more this season.
