Best of luck to him, was a great coach and I wish him the best.

Problem is though, who will coach the Steelies now?

That's a good question. John definetly put a lot of time and heart into the organization. He is one the foremost forward thinkers and great people I have met. A big blow to the Steelie's.

Only name I've heard so far is Jeremy Mylomok. If that happens, I'll never go to a game. I couldn't stomach to watch that guy play and if he coaches there will 20 of them!!!!! There are so many ex players still living in Boise and anyone of them would be better. Cal Ingraham is probably one guy that they could get who could actually bring people in here to play??? Don't know if he'll give up his insurance biz though. Blair Allison? Or maybe there is someone in the Dallas organization that they would like to see in here? I guess we'll see. Good Luck to Coach Olver though, I wish him the best.

Good Guy, Lazy Player. I didn't see him in his prime, just when he was here, but I don't know if he would drive guys hard enough to win, he's a pretty laid back guy. He did have an awesome playoffs 2 years ago when they won the cup though but that season was hidious. He was a player/coach last year but I don't think he's far enough removed from the players yet to be the Head Coach.
He did have the most memorable moment of my 35 years of hockey watching and playing 2 years ago so I will remember him forever. Lost his stick behind the play and was the last one out of the zone (as usual) and skated by the opposing wing and took his stick. Dude looked like a little kid who got his ice cream stolen. Just stood there with boths hands out to his side and looked for the ref. It was classic!!

Is he the best choice? Not my decision. Was he a bad player? You would know better then I would....but it doesn't make him all bad.

He is certainly not all bad, he's a nice guy. I've played with him a few times and if he doesn't get the Steelheads gig I'll probably play with him next season in the senior league here. I haven't seen too much success with a guy going from sitting on the bench 1 year and standing behind it the next year. Maybe he and J.O. had been planning this all last year, I don't know. I doubt it since J.O. signed a new deal a few months ago. If I knew J.O. had been grooming him, I might feel differently but I think if a guy wants to go from playing to coaching in one year he should start with a different team. Too many expectations to live up to. Dave Lewis is looking for a new gig????
