Alien series

For anybody who's seen the movies, they're apparently coming out with new redux's of some of them with additional scenes and other tiny goodies to line 20th Century Fox and Brandywine's wallets by breathing more life into the franchise with an Alien : Director's Cut.

As well, rumours are swirling more towards reality for an Alien 5 or an Aliens vs. Predator (based on the games, instead of the comic books like the previously shelfed AvsP movie).

So looking at the 4 available already, which one do you like the most ? Personally my opinion is that Brandywine productions and Sigourney Weaver destroyed 3 and 4, yet are each still bareable merely because they're Alien films and the fine directing for each. Alien 3 leapfrogged David Fincher and Alien Resurrection did so with Jean Pierre Jeunet. Basically everything in the series is airtight except for the pale horse of death at the end of the 4th one, IMO.

Cinematically, Alien is brilliant, and of course they collaborated with Hans Reudi Giger in it, so the production design was out-f***ing-standing. I like it more than Aliens because I hate James Cameron, yet Aliens itself was the peak of James Cameron, and it's also imaginatively original - a Vietnam movie in space. My vote goes for Ridley Scott's 'Alien'.

So how come you didn't vote? I voted for "Alien", and the only other vote is for "Aliens"! What the heck is going on here anyway, buster?

It was 'the company', they took my vote away for experiments in their bio-weapons division.

Definately Alien.

I've seen them all multiple times and none can touch the first.

if you have starz, you'll see they have the redone aliens with additional footage...imo, its even better than the first version...

Yup, that's the Aliens Special Edition, which has essentially replaced the older version on most all video store shelves (and cable like you said). The cover of the Special Edition is the picture I posted up top, with the green hue. It was made from a laserdisc "Aliens Director's Cut" and made popular by the dark horse comic "Aliens : Newt's Tale" which was taken from James Cameron's script. Fox figured that the series wasn't dead enough for their tastes and put it all together.

I've seen Alien 3 Director's Cut as well, and read some of the alternative scripts, which were all admittedly piss poor. So even though 3 was fairly degraded and Fincher has even disowned it, it's still top shelf compared to what could have been. They brought Giger back to do some more art design and such but by this time he had been sniffing too much of his paint fumes and all of it looked like necropheliac pornography (which we were later to see whether we liked it or not in the "Species" series).

Where is the none of the above option? I've watched all of them more than once, but for some reason I hated all of those movies

I used to watch Aliens almost every day when I was younger. While it's still my favorite I must say that I appreciate them all.

I actually have never seen any of the special edition versions so I'll have to check them out. I'm familiar with the "Newt's Tail" comic though so I guess I'll have an idea of what the Aliens special edition is all about.

I just noticed that Jean-Pierre Jeunet also directed Amelie which is another one of my favorite movies. I had no idea.

Alien. Original and best. Aside from a couple of cheesy scenes where the rubber suit is a little too obvious, that's probably one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen.

I like both 2 and 3 though, 2 moreso, but resurrection is an orgy in crappiness. Never has a single movie so defiled such a brilliant series.

I think they all stunk. No originality, bad action scenes, bad dialogues. There wouldn't been anything lost if it had been made a silent film for blind people.

"Game over man, game over..."

Aliens is my favorite of the series. I like them all, but I do find Resurection to be the worst, and at the same time the most disturbing.

Saw a trailer for Alien-Director's cut at the theater this weekend. Looks pretty cool. Never got to see the first in the theater, so I'll be there this time. Should be better than the crappy movie (Underworld) the trailer was in front of.

I go with Aliens too. James Cameron vs. Ridley Scott is a push, but only Aliens has the awesome power of MICHAEL BIEHN!

From Aliens: "Hey Vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man? - No. Have you?" :yo:

I still get a little adrenalin rush when when Vasquez yells "Let's rock!" and all hell breaks loose.

Aliens is the best for me, Alien probably second. I preferred Resurrection over Alien 3, because it had guns in it and Ripleys a mean mofo. It does however have some disturbing or "gross out" moments.

Does this new Special edition have that scene in the corridor with the automatic guns? My cousin had one special edition version over 10 years ago which had, among others, the above mentioned scene.

You're speaking of the Aliens Special Edition ? Then yeah, it's already available on DVD, with the scenes of those drone guns which more than subtlely adds a hint of paranoia and terror to the movie that wasn't present in the original version.

Love the other quote when Ripley tells him "this little girl survived longer than two weeks"..and he says "Hell, why dont you put her in charge"

and the one single best line "thats man, game over man, its game Over"

ALIENS

The sequal was a great way to build on the first movie. Kind of what I was hoping for in a Predator sequel...rather than killing one, you get a whole army of them. :handclap:

Lots of great quotes especially from Bill Paxton.

Ripley: Well, someone's gonna have to go down there, take a portable transmitter and patch in.
Hudson: Yeah, sure, with those things running around? You can count me out.
Hicks: Well I guess we can count you out of everything then.
Hudson: That's right, man.
Bishop: I'll go. I mean, I'm the only one qualified to remote-pilot the ship anyway.
Hudson: That's right, man, Bishop should go. Good idea!

The classic whiny coward. I love Paxton in that movie.
