BigMac1212 09-29-2003, 07:48 PM I'm in love with designing arenas and stadiums. I could come up with several ideas in my head. I usually design just the seating chart. My biggest problem is that if I draw them out, it turns out to be below par. Is there anybody who could suggest software that could help me design an arena? Thanks for the help.
Buffaloed 09-29-2003, 08:59 PM CadStd and IntelliCAD offer free versions of their software

If you have $3500 laying around, get AutoCAD :p
We'll be expecting arena designs for Pitt and LI now

Uhh...Pourquoi?
Just for fun?
NJ_Devil_Boy 09-29-2003, 09:47 PM I'd suggest AutoCAD. I designed a (basic) hockey arena in grade 12 using (back in the day) AutoCAD14. The views were limited, but it was good enough. We now use AutoCAD 2004 in college. :yo:
BigMac1212 09-30-2003, 09:51 AM I have a wierd brain, Renegade. I want to be a network administator. I am really good with the subjects on networking and troubleshooting. However, I have so many stuff I would like to do with my free time. One of them is designing arenas and stadiums. It's sort of a hobby, in a manner of speaking. I hope this makes my intentions more clear.
Oh, I should of made this a lot clearer. I'm not in CAD. I wanted to design an arena on products like Adobe Illustrator. But, hey, this might work. I'll try the free stuff, and, if I get a chance, I might take a few CAD classes at college. Look out, HOK; (it's an stadium design firm) BigMac1212 has some ideas for you!!!

I would almost design a new arena for Detroit, if it wasn't for their winning ways. Ah, well, if they ever need a new arena, they could always check this board. :joker: :joker: :joker:
ive designed wrestling arenas for fun in Bryce 3d, 4 and 5.
Its basic shape deigns, laying out shapes in groups to come up with what you want.
thats a pretty simple program, which could get the job done

Really??? I went to Amazon and it's around $600. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

If you're going to save $2900, you're probably looking in the right place!

Man.. I miss that. AutoCAD14 was the **** and haven't touched AutoCAD since then.
BigMac1212 10-02-2003, 07:00 PM Here's one aspect of NHL\NBA arena's that's been stumping me. I know that the NHL rink is longer and wider than the nba court. I also know that they usually put only a couple of rows of seats on the wide portion of the unused space. My question is, how do they extend the seating at each goal area? I'm can't figure it out. I'm planning to create an arena for one area you forgot needed improvements; New Jersey. Since the Devils and Nets share the arena, I though I would make two versions of the arena. I really want to make it appear like the United Center or American Airlines Center, not just put a few rows of seating not connected to the concourse. Thanks for the help.
BigMac1212 10-04-2003, 11:35 AM Anyone? Please? I'm desperate!!!
Anyone? Please? I'm desperate!!!
well, i answer with what i know
The palace of Auborn hills in Detroit Is home of the Pistons. And they were the home of the Vipers of the IHL.
at each end of the court, they had allot of floor seating. But they also had about 30 Rows of FOld In Seats. Huge platforms that wold collapse and fold up. Similar to what you would see in hiigschool Gyms [only, obviously much bigger and better seating]
BigMac1212 10-04-2003, 03:05 PM Thanks. That helps me a lot. OK, I don't have AutoCAD yet, but here's my current plan for this arena:
The CompUSA Center
Houses both NHL and NBA team
19-22,000 seats for hockey
20-23,000 for basketball
20,500-25,000 for concerts
2-3000 club seats the entire encompansing the middle layer of arena (in the style of the XO Club in the St. Petersburgh Times Forum in Tampa)
70-150 suites above club level
12 Party suites (those are suites with around 40-300 seats!)
6-12 suites near ice level (something like the SBC Center in San Antonio, not like the Gund Arena in Cleveland)
Special mini clubs near ice level for ticket holders in the lowest seating area (something similar to the one at the Air Canada Center)
Two in-arena restaruants with views of the action
Open lower level concorse (like Xcel Energy Center)
Upper level seating like that of the new Toyota Centre in Houston (check out the Houston Rockets' ticket area for more information)
Handicap seating in 60% of seating
Scoreboard like that at Minnesota and Glendale (but set higher for those in the upper deck)
Four digital-matrix screens around roof of arena
LED Ribbon Strip above main concourse and one level of suites
Old fasion look to arena like the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (there's got to be a retro arena in hockey, shouldn't there?)
And, last but not least, McDonald's concession stands!
That's it. What do you think?
PredsFan77* 10-04-2003, 03:28 PM Sounds like you better find a gracious city that will foot the bill for the beast... ;)
BigMac1212 10-04-2003, 05:17 PM How about New Jersey? They should have a great arena!

I think that may be the price for the Autocad upgrade from 2002 to 2004.
:dunno:
