Los Angeles Kings

Protected

Jason Allison, F; Derek Armstrong, F; Eric Belanger, F; Brad Chartrand, F;
Adam Deadmarsh, F; Jason Holland, D; Trent Klatt, F; Maxim Kuznetsov, D; Ian Laperriere, F; Aaron Miller, D; Jaroslav Modry, D; Bryan Muir, D;
Mattias Norstrom, D; Brad Norton, D; Zigmund Palffy, F; Luc Robitaille, F;
Jozef Stumpel, F; Lubomir Visnovsky, D; Roman Cechmanek, G; Cristobal Huet, G.

Available

Steve Kelly, F; Jan Nemecek, D; Pavel Rosa, F; Joe Rullier, D; Chris
Schmidt, F; Richard Seeley, D; Jon Sim, F; John Tripp, F; Milan Hnilicka,
G.

(the following are my personal observations after a discussion with another Kings die-hard)

1. He seems to think the Kings could ask for an exemption for Norton, based on last night's injury. I think it's kind of a moot point.

2. The Kings have Holland and Muir protected because if they want to make a move and pick up a player, they CERTAINLY have one to throw back.

3. Because Calgary protected Trefilov instead of McLennan, it's obvious they are looking for a goaltender (and will throw Tref back...) and I wonder if Hnilicka is the best bargain on the scrapheap (based on the re-worked contract)

4. Phoenix might look at Jon Sim, who scored two goals against them last night (half joking.)

5. Who would *I* like to see the Kings take a shot at in the waiver draft? (Honestly, not really anyone, but if I am forced to choose:)

* Buzek, Werenka, Trnka, Heins, Therrien, or Smrek on D
* Olvestad up front

Here's the list of notables, some you'd expect ($$$) and some you see every year. Some are disappointing former Kings who can't seem to get it together (note: I put $$$ figures next to certain defensemen of note. I'm not saying we should be interested in them, but, we are a little light there now with Norton out):

I see three very solid NHL D men that wouldn't look bad in a Kings uni. Thank god that the Wings placed Cujo on waivers. I mean, we all knew it was coming but the constant "He is worth way too much" bs on the trade boards will finally stop for a couple of days. Now we will get another present when nobody takes him. Anything to help underline the point that Cujo was waaaaaay over paid and waaaaaay over valued by the Wings.

I also have beenable to see Petrovicky a few times this offseason and think he will be taken before it is our turn to do anything. That guy is ready to make the big plunge. Its funny how EL screwed him in favor of Barnaby. That's hockey. Interesting points tubby and face.

What, you don't want Bednar back? :D

OF COURSE I WANT BEDNAR BACK... I paid about 875 bucks for that stupid game issued opening night jersey last season :)

(the Jimmie Olvestad thing was a joke... I promise.)

IMO, The best option for the Kings is Todd Simpson. When taking into consideration that DT is looking for a #5/6 D-man with some bite, he seems to fit the bill better than anyone else in the draft.

The issue there is that since he is in the same division, he is not eligible to be picked up by the Kings in the first round. It's possible, as happened last year (Robidas, Biron) that one of the other teams could select him and deal him to LA.

I think Taylor has a trick up his sleeve. Time will tell.

Holy ****!!! Phoenix left Brian Savage unproteced. He would fit in perfectly on this team! :p

Ummm... I'm pretty sure, since he's always injured Lege was kidding.. ;)

Hey, he could hang out with Lappy and discuss how best to avoid legal open ice hits that jeopardize careers... :)

because the Kings are not looking to spend 2M on a backup goaltender after they walked away from Jamie Storr at about half that, and signed Milan Hnilicka for about one tenth that.

becasue boucher is possibly a goalie of the future. once cechmanek is gone, we only have prospects who are called future backup goalies. although i believe different with Huet, it'd be nice to pick up boucher just to be sure.

if we pick him up, it'd be a great way to get a goalie starter prospect at no cost. it surprises me they let him under the waiver

I didn't see Joe Corvo's name on protected list. Is he exempt this year?

not buying it... our goalies of the future right now are even cheaper: Munce, Zaba and Chouinard.

i'm not too impressed with chouinard, decent positioning but not too aware. even less with munce, and zaba even less. our best goalie currently and who i think has the most potential is huet. these kids are all young so this assessment is more than likely pre-mature, but the goalies in our system are definately weak.

boucher would be a great pickup, even if it's for $2 million. the guy can be a future starter, it'd be sweet to nab someone like that.

I'm not sure but If my memory is correct (theres a chance) didn't Boucher and R-Cech :D not get along in Philly? also I just realised we couldn't take Simpson in the 1sst round of the waiver draft since hes in our division :mad:

i'm not too good on rules and schematics, but i believe you have to be in the league for 3+ years. so frolov, corvo, cammy, etc do not need to be protected

i'd like to see the kings gamble on shane willis... it took glen murray considerable time to develop into the type of player he has become.

then take a look see at stan neckar... he's still an available UFA.

Just to be clear, Huet = not young.

Not the future either :)

I'll give Munce and Zaba the benefit of the doubt for a couple of years. Denike... nah... Chouinard is the wildcard.

Any one think we should take Keefe (Very young good sniper in OHL I believe), and Brian Boucher ?

We can trade the Coyotes Hanlack (Spelling ?) to be there back up goalie and we can just send Huet to the AHL to take Travis Scott spot.

Plus why is every one (almost) down on Zaba ? The guy is only going to be a college freshman this year. Give him and Munce time there what 18 years old ?
