So much for our depth

Hamel and Brookbank were taken today in the waiver draft. No huge deal, but I think Hamel would have been a useful call-up at times, and Brookbank would have been nice to compliment the blueline in Bingo.

The Sens did select Metropolit, but he is playing in Europe and wouldn't be able to play in Ottawa until next season.

More waiver draft activity...

Some interesting stuff - especially Travis Green, Todd Simpson & Jani Hurme.

As for Hamel and Brookbank, I liked them both but this is hardly going to sink the ship. It does, however, take a bit of the edge out of our lineup. But with Payer, Smrek, Corso, Langfeld, Giroux, Vermette, Schubert... the depth is still pretty good.

I think I would have prefered it if we'd picked up someone like Brad Larsen or Steve Kelly, but Metropolit is an interesting player. Maybe it's a bit of payback for the incessant looting that the Caps perform on our depth chart every year... honestly - Ciernik, Kwiatowski, Doig, Boumedienne, Hamel... let's settle it down a bit.

Metro's contract with Jokerit allows him to come back to play with any teams he chooses. So I suppose he may come back from Ottawa or even Binghamton.

Good points. I can't understand why the organization gave Hamel a contract this summer only to keep him out of the protected players list and see him taken at the waiver draft. It doesn't really make sense. I don't think it will affect the line up though, as you guys have a lot of depth.

i guess they pocket 10gs, or is that only if they are claimed off waivers?

Metropolit looked pretty good against the Leafs in the preseason game versus Jokerit. I saw the game and he had quicks.
