Not for next year in 2-3 years.

Not for next year in 2-3 years.

Would that be by expansion or relocation?

Expansion is usually done in pairs, who would the other city be?

Rumor is...they still don't deserve one.

OTTAWA? I know Gatineau is near Onterio but wouldn't a Q team in Ottawa be OHL terroitory? The QMJHL wants another American team for a natural rivraly for Lewiston.

if montreal gets a team in 06-07, or even in 07-08, it will be relocation. the Q wants to expand to 20 teams eventually, so in the next 4-5 years they'll be there anyways. i believe the Q will also put another team in the U.S. whether it's portland, boston, wherever. i also believe cornerbrook has a strong chance to get a team in the next expansion wave. not only would they be a natural rival for st. john's, it would help cut the travel costs from the rock.

Not only is Gatineau near Ontario, it's practically in it. Anyway...it's Cornwall they're talking about. Which is stupid.

Anyway. Junior failed in Boston once. So why not one more time? I mean. If the Montreal area gets 12 attempts, Boston's track record for junior is looking pretty sweet. Despite a terrible showing for the juniors that one year...it's a great idea.

When did a Major Junior team fail in Boston? I believe you're mistaken.
I do believe it would fail in Boston though. It would have to be Worcester, which is 50 miles west of Boston. Worcester has a population of about 300,000 and an arena that holds about 10,000. The AHL Icecats just left there after the end of last season. Boston has too many NCAA teams and the Boston people aren't hockey fans, they are Bruins fans.

What does this have to do with Major Junior Hockey? I don't think anywhere in Massauchettes would be good for a Q team unless Ray Bourque is an owner. Vermont would be a nice place to put a team. It is about 100 miles from Lewiston. 2 hours away from Drummondsville and 2 and half hours away from Viactoriaville (sp). I can't see New Hampshire with a team with the sucess of UNH and the Monarchs. No other team in Maine wouldn't suceed because northern Maine is UMaine terriotory. Central Maine has the Maineiacs. Southern Maine has the Pirates (AHL) and still surprised that the Pirates hasn't left because they have no fan support at all. In a few years I think if the Maineiacs played at the Cumberland County Civic Center for 1 game (where the Pirates play) could probably get the arena 2/3 full and that would be more than the Pirates. If Pirates played at Colisee I would be surprised if they get 3,000 fans.

Nobody in the stands?

Pretty much. For the Q to go to Boston, they would have to have some major ownership backing the team. I don't see why they expand further into the US anyway. With the huge following of NCAA hockey and the Bruins, they have a lot to compete with.

But the Q B.O.G. is made up of a bunch of monkeys...so why not?

What does this have to do with Major Junior Hockey?

Nothing. Apart from the fact that the picture is from the gold medal game of the 1996 World Junior Hockey Championships. A showcase of the world's best junior talent in which Boston virtually ignored it.

There was never a CHL team in Boston. If you're refering to the WJC, you're right, that failed. The tournament was of very little interest to the locals. As I stated earlier, Boston has Bruins fans, not hockey fans. But, there was never a CHL team based in Boston, nor should there be.

I'm not sure about Vermont. The only population is in Burlington and they are rabid
UVM fans. UVM won't let a Q team play on their campus anyway. There's no housing available in Burlington. There are very few places in New England that could support a team. Worcester has very little NCAA hockey to worry about. Holy Cross is a great school, but the level of hockey is very weak. Worcester is also about a hours ride from Boston. Most importantly, Worcester has a 10,000 seat arena with no hockey tenent. Why would Ray Bourque need to be involved in ownership for a team to work in the Boston area? I'd prefer an educated businessman. Someone with credibility that would be in the ownership for the long haul.

There is three levels of hockey in Mass. NCAA, AHL, and the NHL. So the Q would be getting thrown into mix with most of the people in Mass already having a favorite hockey team. For a Q team to surive it would need to standout and the only way is having someone as part of the ownership. who played hockey in the area. The perfect guy would be Ray Bourque as part of the ownership. It would bring people to the games. Plus the Q has most games on the weekend and that is another problem because football and baseball is king in Mass. Saturday you have B.C. football and Sunday's you have the Patroits. The season starts late Sept early October so you would have the Red Sox making a playoff/World Series run. Football in New England always goes to last weekend of season lately so there goes 3/4 of the Q season right there. Plus you have to start convincing prospects in the Mass area that Major Junior over NCAA because the fans would want to see home grown talent like they see in NCAA's.
