Ensane 09-06-2005, 11:34 PM Anybody else catch the episode tonight? Oh my god that was powerful. Looking forward to next week's episode. They're building it up to be even more moving than tonight's.
Just in case someone actually responds, don't spoil anything until after 11PST, since that's when it finishes for MOST of us west-coasties.

Never seen the show as I dont have FX, but I've heard great things.
My friend's father is actually a producer on that show, so theres a good chance I'll be meeting Denis Leary in the next few weeks. Probably not a good idea knowing his personality, but meh.

I think it aired tonight.
Junkhead 09-07-2005, 12:48 PM That was definitely a great episode last night. I was totally blown away that they actually let the kid die. Typically, they'll make you think the kid's going to die and then he'll pull through just before they give up on CPR. But not in this episode. And Tommy's reaction to the whole thing was a bit odd. I don't know if his look was supposed to be the look of shock, but he looked like he was just watching TV and not his son die in front of him.
Matt13 09-07-2005, 02:18 PM I was shocked as well that the kid died.
I didnt think something else could go wrong for Tommy.
I have to admit, I was kinda turned on by the lesbo fight, lol.
ebbhead 09-07-2005, 06:22 PM I hope you don't mean Franco's kid They just started season 2 in Canada. I don't know if it was the 1st episode last night. Nope just checked the site We are only at episode 2

This is the only thing i follow, i don't watch tv or anything, i dl this show even if i miss it on the dish and what not...
Best show i have ever seen in a long long long time.

My cousin lost his son, he had the same look on his face. It's shock, anger, sadness and a bunch of other emotions wrapped together into one thing that is just impossible to describe, thats how he put it when his 6yr old was hit by a pick up.
Dennis Leary has become a pretty solid actor, this show is just unreal

One more to go.
Again, this show proves to be one of the best. It's amazing how it can make you bust a gut laughing one minute, and then punch you in the gut the next.

Haha, like when Shawn was cupping his nut and probie's to see if probie had "ball cancer"...that was classic.
FLYLine24* 09-08-2005, 02:56 PM The last ep was amazing. I wish they had 22 ep seasons and not just 12 or 13 eps. The show is one of the best out there.

Any dialogue with Mike (probie) is mind numbing, but Garrity...remember the Strip joint...he has his flashes of stable conversation.

I'd say the best ones are with Probie and Garritty. It's almost like they try and one up each other in terms of utter stupidity.

Personally, I think the scenes involving Frank and Garrity are the funniest.
Especially a couple eps back when Garrity kept telling Laura a bunch of Frank's secrets, and then getting punched by Frank each time.

Yeah, when Franco and Garrity get going, it's amusing; the whole, wit vs. no-wit thing. But when Garrity and Probie have their scenes, it's like two old men talking without hearing aids.

Haha..Franco pumped Garrity's sister..that part cracked me up, i mean he didn't even punch him, i'd waste the guy that tells me he tagged my sister, thank god i watch over her like a hawk.
I remember a few of the Probie-Shawn fiasco's...the gay birthday party on who looks more "queer" and then there's the lemme grab my nut and grab urs and compare...the telling of Franco's ho-story to Laura was just Garrity's solo-stupidity...
I love the show, i'm going to buy every season as they come out.

Goddamnit. Did you have to say that?
I realize though, knowing the season finale was on tonight, it's my fault for reading this topic. But still, could've at least gave a bit of a warning.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 09-13-2005, 10:45 PM I've only seen three episodes from season 3 here in Canada, but I must say, they've been quite good. From tonights episode, I nearly lost it a couple times, like when Garrity ask Sully "Is something wrong with your hole?" and Probie's story "I read a story about this old lady who had a gun and she thought she heard someone breaking in and she shot herself in the face".
I read ahead, and know what's coming in a few episodes, but I've stopped doing it for now, but I might read ahead anyway. Either way, looks to be a great season.
Ensane 09-13-2005, 11:45 PM Wow...fn wow.

Agreed. As always, the episode ending montage was brilliant.
Leary is so underrated, it's sick.
And it still astounds me how they can take an episode that deals with the heaviness of losing a child and still finds a way to make you laugh.
Garrity with Tommy's daughter and at the church was some funny stuff.
Laura's breakdown...Lou's revelation...Jerry's decision about his wife...the Jesus/Tommy scene...just amazing drama.
Take the wheel, let's go for a ride. if you're trouble then I'll follow you down.

This is, hands-down, THE best show on television. In fact, it is the best show since season 1 of NYPD Blue - which was outstanding.
I hate most network shows and won't risk watching them (besides - they are often opposite a game.) But I love great TV and this show is it. They walk a fine line between humor and drama but they pull it off. My favorite part of a good show (or movie) is when i expect a formulaic event to happen and they go in a different direction. Rescue Me does this all the time. Like having the kid die. Most shows don't have the guts to do that. And the honesty with which they show these guys in. They don't hold them up as white-washed heroes; they are people with flaws.
I want to see Dennis Leary at a B's game this year just to say thanks. he was great in Monument Ave. but I had no idea he had this in him
Band of Brothers but that was a mini-series so it doesn't count.]

Gotta say I saw the thing with Lou coming. It just seemed too good to be true. They sold her as a really great actor but paid it off by showing that she had done it before and knew the con well.
Nobody seems to have much to live for next season - though Proby and Garrity could hold each other's balls again for comfort.

In regards to the scene with Lou at her apt door w/ flowers, did you catch the part where the cop asked that other guy what escort's real name was, though? I remember her sharing a name she claimed was her real name with Lou in a previous ep.
Is this possibly setting up another twist to this storyline for next season.? Maybe she started out conning Lou, but finds she has true feelings for him? :dunno: You just never know with this show.

You're right there. After the conclusion of season 2, no one seems to have much to go for. They even broke Franco (although it was many episodes in the making). Garritty still maintains a smile on his face though, however, other than that quick spin he had with that arsonist girl, he's never involved in serious drama. And Probie also seems to be okay these days after getting over his hideously fat ex-girlfriend and hooking up with the Amazonian Vet. When last season ended, everyone said that the show could possibly end there--since it showed the breakdown amongst the characters. It could be said the same about the ending this season, but we all know that's not true--they'll think of something (aside from the trial) to build off of this season and sail in to season 3. I can't fn wait!

Maybe - I doubt it though. I think it gives his character an arc because he was starting to miss his wife, starting to realize that he might have made a huge mistake in letting her go. Then this chick comes along and takes advantage.
I had to rewind it to hear him say, "If it make you feel any better you're not the first guy she has done this to." Dog bless the DVR!

The thing that makes it so ironic, is that Lou is most likely the smartest one in the house, yet he's played as the biggest fool here. I dont think he thinks as much that losing his wife was a bad thing, because you saw their interactions, it was never positive. But it just shows how having such a huge void in one's life can cloud judgement ultimately. You know...we've all been there!
Junkhead 09-14-2005, 11:33 AM Definitely the best show on TV right now. I loved last night's episode. It is amazing how EVERYBODY'S life in this show just completely sucks. I really like Laura on this show, but I think I just read somewhere that she's going back to California to be on another show. So I guess that's it for her. And I really hope that Lenny Clark remains on the show. But having him shoot the drunk driver makes me wonder. But he and Leary are good friends, so I don't know why he'd be leaving.
Chilly Willy* 09-14-2005, 02:07 PM Thats why you wait till Season 3.
The Tommy breakdown infront of lesbian psycho, i sort of knew that was coming, he wasn't going to knock her out. But now what? His wife is pretty much gone again, but this time hasn't run off like before.
I see Tommy getting back with crazy *****, going back to his old ways. But this show always seems to suprise you, i thought Tommy would start drinking again way back, but he's seemed to hold it off, so you never know i suppose.
This is a great show, the only thing that pissed me off, was mentioned earlier, was when Garrity's arsonist girlfriend died, they should have made him a lil edgier after that, instead he's still a dumb oaf. Probie is probie, that guy is a moron. But now that Laura is gone, that leaves an opening for a new person, that might shake things up.

He could also go back to the hot chick he thought was his sister. I'd be up for that. As a recovering alcoholic (but one that never spent a minute at AA) I cringe every time I think he's gonna drink again. It'd suck because then he has to start all over again.
