Rookie Camp?

I know the Sabres have training camp, like all of the other NHL teams, but do they ever have a rookie camp, like L.A. and Washington? I saw that LA signed Anze Kopitar during thier rookie camp; it would be nice to see some initiative like that by the Sabres. Not that I'm suggesting they rush players, but you never know, right?

Buffalo, The Leafs, and the Rags would send teams...that was kind of cool. The Sabres need to their younger guys more often in an organized manner, not just in training camp.

Rookie camp was scrapped several years ago as a cost cutting move. I think every fan would like to see it brought back.

Going back even further, they used to have a Leafs-Sabres three-day event that would feature a game in Niagara Falls as well as one up in the GTA. I recall one particular game where I wrote "Meat" next to a player to sum up his performance. Granted, Kaleb Toth has gone on to a fine lacrosse career but the kid was seriously overmatched physically....

I know I read and article about the London Knights and that Denis and Hunter were to depart for Sabres Camp this Sunday. Almost all their other drafted players are already in camps.

Thanks for the quick response about all of this, everybody.

That last part of the quote is what made me ask the question. Makes me sad

Signing the player doesn't necessarily mean he'll play in the NHL. Kopitar is expected to play another year in Sweden when he's done with King's camp. Now they have him locked up and can't lose him. That's one of the things I really hate about the Sabres. There's no reason Kyrukov couldn't already be signed and come over when he fulfills his contract in Russia. Zagrapan could be signed now and still play in the QMJHL. The longer the Sabres wait, the more difficult it becomes to sign their better prospects. They'll make more mistakes and sign a few guys that may not develop as well as they hoped, but they'll also save by getting guys to sign now rather than later if their value increases. It also avoids contentious contract negotiations that have the potential to sour the player on the Sabres. I'm sick of waiting until the deadline to find out which picks sign, reenter the draft, or become UFA's. It's a low-class way to operate a franchise.

This is a far more elequent way of saying what I was trying to say. I particularly agree with the highlighted points.
