Florida may need a back up and we could use a puck moving D-man, VAN RYN fits the bill.

VAN RYN-GILL MCGILLIS-BOYNTON O'DONNELL-JILLSON MORAN Taz my friend, you have had some pipe dreams in the past, but this is the pipiest. :joker: WickedBruinsGirl 10-04-2003, 06:00 PM Isn't Van Ryn good friends with Thornton? Didn't they play in juniors together? :dunno: :joker: Michael Karlstrom II 10-04-2003, 06:10 PM I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Shields traded to Florida. They need a backup goaltender now and Shields isn't bad at the price he is signed. We won't be getting anything for him that we actually want though. Florida could have grabbed him on waivers. We likely will need to take a contract back. I am not totally up to date on the Florida camp but if Weiss and Nedorost are going to be on the team then I think Florida will be looking to dump the contract of Matt Cullen. The Bruin's clearly have no need at all for Shields at this point. I am not sure we would have any more need for Cullen but I think the salary is about a wash. Cullen would be a wonderful asset for Providence if worst came to worst and we had to send him down. I have never heard anything bad about his character. If Florida doesn't want to dump him then I would guess we are looking at maybe a 6th round pick for Shields. This would effectively replace the pick we gave up for Green and we all could think of the trade as being Green for Shields which would have to be a good move for Boston. Getting Shields out of Boston now becomes addition by subtraction. If he is kept he simply takes cash from the payroll and gets in the way of Raycroft's development. if Raycroft/Potvin can't handle the job then the team really will need to look more at a Kolzig type later anyhow. Shields was a decent experiement I have backed as it played out but the time has now passed to make the call and the call is that Boston now needs to take any offer they get for Shields even if it offer's next to nothing of additional benefit to the team other than just moving a possible problem from the locker room. mmmBeer 10-04-2003, 11:50 PM How bout Shields for just Mike (no middle name) Ryan? I went to high school with him... he was a good offensive HS playmaker, but also brittle (same build as me, and I have a Byung Hyung Kim build)... drafted by Dallas in rd. 2 in 99 I think... couldn't beat CM, and probably won't be an NHLer, but as long as we got rid of Shields! :rolly: Anyways, I also sat behind Mike Sullivan's younger brother in English class, and all he would do all class was draw up plays in his notebook. At least we know hockey strategy is in the Sullivan blood! Add those two along with Steve Slonina - one of the first cuts in camp - and I'd feel like going to a B's game was a HS reunion! I'm sure you all care too! Jeff from Maine 10-05-2003, 03:15 AM IMHO, you have the worlds GREATEST avatar! Pabst Blue Ribbon! Aling with Natty Lites and Schlitz, has their EVER truly been a better beer? When I was at Maine, thats all we would drink. Finances dictated it of course:) And I will never forget the Rum and Coke that was sold at the Thriftway Market. The label was white and the ONLY wwriting on it at all was in black block letters: RUM AND COKE Thats just classic. almost as if Jack and Jill made it in their basement and put it on the shelves! VAN RYN-GILL MCGILLIS-BOYNTON O'DONNELL-JILLSON MORAN Boy,we are really dreaming if we think we can get Van Ryn for Sheilds.I think we would be lucky to get a 6th.That would pretty much make it Shields for Green.FYI, There were several rumours in the papers up here that Green was part of the problem in the Leafs dressing room last year along with Corson and Tucker(the 3 amigos) Habs4ever 10-05-2003, 05:14 AM Boy,we are really dreaming if we think we can get Van Ryn for Sheilds.I think we would be lucky to get a 6th.That would pretty much make it Shields for Green.FYI, There were several rumours in the papers up here that Green was part of the problem in the Leafs dressing room last year along with Corson and Tucker(the 3 amigos) 30 teams passed on him just this week, and he ain't considered more then descent backup and his pricetag is big for such a small role, but you could get 6th rounder if you pay most of his salary and thats at best. earthstar 10-05-2003, 05:18 AM Boy,we are really dreaming if we think we can get Van Ryn for Sheilds.I think we would be lucky to get a 6th.That would pretty much make it Shields for Green.FYI, There were several rumours in the papers up here that Green was part of the problem in the Leafs dressing room last year along with Corson and Tucker(the 3 amigos) The situation in Toronto began with Corson and Mogilny. It's well known that Corson has a problem with depression. He also wasn't the most popular player in Toronto, but was close friends with Tucker (his brother-in-law), and Green. The problem was heightened with Corson's lack of playing time in Toronto. The problem's in Toronto really escaladed when Corson found his wife and Mogilny together. Corson, Tucker and Green were close, so you can imagine the tension in the dressingroom. As for Shields, he's a quality guy, but he's eating salary. He would be the perfect back-up for Luongo in Florida, but I really can't see Florida offering more than a pick to the Bruins. The Bruins have no leverage at this time and should be happy to simply move the salary. sagginb 10-05-2003, 05:38 AM The situation in Toronto began with Corson and Mogilny. Yup the B's would be lucky to be able to trade Shields for a very low pick...I say around a 7th pick and they eat a part of his salary maybe....say around 1/2 to 2/3's for this year. Probably will be a buy out IMO and just let him go..and pay the 2/3's. Let's move on! | ||
