With the Langdon and Begin ' acquisitions , the Montreal canadiens need some scorers now.
Who can they get and what will it cost?

Well under the category of unproven and relatively cheap:
Shvidki and Novoseltsev are both on Florida and could probably be had...

Then there's also
Hoglund is a player that the Habs are no doubt familiar with and he will soon be a UFA again
There are some other UFAs out there with offensive flair left in their system such as Berezin, Ronning, Heinze and Thomas

I thought the habs were going to try using some of there younger guys this year ie: Ward, Ryder, Hossa, etc etc. I can`t see them making deals for guys like Ronning, Berezin, etc. I think the team will stay pretty much how it is :dunno:

I think the best solution for the habs is to find a proven scorer with some size and I don't think free agents is the way to find that player.

Personally I'd like

Brad Tapper - Decent size (6-0) but not really proven, could break out and be a very good NHL players for years. Could be had for very little.

Jean-Pierre Dumont - Good size (6-1) and has a couple of seasons behind him, would probably be a consistant 20 goalscorer if he finds linemates that fit him. I don't know what would be needed to get him.

Taylor Pyatt - Really good size (6-4) is not experienced or a proven player, makes himself useful even when he is not scoring, is still a bluechipper though I think and would be hard to get.

Sami Kapanen - Is small (5-10) but efficient in both ends of the game, Sami is a fast skater who will look to get back to his 20+ goal form after a bad year. His size makes him a questionable acquisition though for Habs.

Tapper - don't waste your time. He's been given every opportunity to succeed as a scorer in Atlanta and has failed so far. I see nothing more than a depth NHLer or career minor leaguer.

Dumont - I really like Dumont but I'm not sure he'll ever develop much more than he is now. I think he could be had from Buffalo but I don't know what he would cost.

Pyatt - never gonna happen. Buffalo is pretty high on Pyatt and he is developing. The development is slow but it is happening. He'll be a 30 goal scorer soon enough. You won't get him.

Kapanen - depends which Kapanen you get. He could put up points with the right linemates but he is on the downside of his career from what I see. Depending on what he would cost, could be a worthwhile acquisition but does make a fair bit.

I agree. The Habs goal scoring is going to come from the current players, with spots to Ryder, Ward and Hossa. Also Audette may (I hope) rebound to a 20 goal season.

Why would they trade for Novoseltsev now after they could have had him for nothing via waivers? They have tried Berezin too you know - and those veterans wouldnt fit into their plan anyways (size/age).

I would pass on all of those guys.

Novoseltsev was somewhat interesting...but if the Habs did have any interest, they would have picked him in the waiver draft, no? Also i would have no problems adding Shvidki to the organization, but i don't think he's good enough to play now, and if we claimed him then tried to send him down, would he not just have to clear waivers again? Hoglund is a definite no...always despised the way that guy played hockey.

I really don't know what the solution is going to be to the Habs scoring woes. We just don't have much in the way of tradeable assets (that we would actually be willing to trade...) to get a good top 2 line forward. I think for now Habs fans are just going to have to suck it up and hope that guys like Audette, Ribeiro and Marcel Hossa can contribute along with Koivu, Zednik, Perreault and Bulis.

and Gainey seems to be embracing young movement as well, To load up team guys we can put are Hossa, Ryder, Ward these are three forwards right here, even Ribeiro has improved as of late and seems to be pretty good in top line and can play in 2nd line for sure So I don't get why are you guys trying to bring in free agents or even trade for other players we already have very talented young players with Size that are coming in as well, its not like we have nothing in farm considering we are loaded with talent there.
