How about Shividki??

Yet another forward waived by the Pantehrs. Would HE interest us?? I agree with the rest of you: Hoglund and Knutson both are redundant. But what about Shividiki. He would look great with Sedin twinds or Cooke.

Might not be a bad option, except for that contract. Is it 2 way? If so I would feel more comfortable taking that gamble. Have to keep him up or offer him on waivers when you try and send him down.

He is a RW prospect, and we are thin on those. King has made that situation look a little better than it did earlier though :)

Sign Keane or try and comb the waiver wire. That is Burke's question now. I just posted on another thread about signing Keane because there is no one else out there who can help us, but I think I jumped the gun in making that statement. I would wait and see who else pops up before I commit to Keane for the season.

BTW his name is spelled "Shvdiki"
According to the Panthers website he shoots left but plays the right and also played left wing. He was drafted # 12 over-all in 1999 (same as the Sedins) and has played parts of 3 seasons in Florida. He is a constant underachiever.

I'd pick him up. The guy is big and very talented and hasn't really had any direction playing for the Panthers. Who do you look up to, or look for leadership from on that team? I think playing with guys like Naslund and Linden, and playing in a new upbeat atmosphere could ignite him. Even if he doesn't make the Canucks right away he could play on an exciting and young Moose team that could help develop him.

I would be tempted to pick him up. He is a RW and our depth at RW isn't good in terms of prospects. He is a big talented forward who has under achieved.

I would take the risk. He has the skill set so I guess it's just the matter of maturity. Who knows, maybe he'll start maturing this year.

But can't King be moved to the Moose without having to go through waivers??? If so then why not pick up Shvidki?? He is a few years ahead of King in NHL readiness IMO.

Yeah but if Shvidki can't crack the lineup in Florida why can he crack it here? Just because he has skill doesn't mean he deserves a spot. Not to mention his salary would eat up anything we have left for a possibly acquisition on the deadline.

Remember the story you all told me a few weeks back about Keenan almost pulling the trigger on a Naslund trade for a 4th rd pick until an injury nixed the deal? I see Shvidki in a similar situation. He missed most of one season due to a serious concussion and when he did play, it was for limited minutes and he was tentitive. Keenan hates him because he doesn't rough it up but if it's skill you want, this guy has a wrist shot like few in the league. He's remarkably strong on his skates and knows how to protect the puck in traffic. He's got great vision and makes such clever passes he'll sometimes surprise his teammates. At the end of last season Shvidki got a callup and played incredibly well. He only scored 2 goals in those 4 games but created chances shift after shift. I was certain he'd be on the Panthers' top line this season.

I've met Denis but I don't know him. I don't know if he really doesn't have the heart for this level of competition. But I'm sure Keenan has convinced Dudley he doesn't have any heart because it simply can't be based on any other reason.

Some players take longer to develop. Some very good players have been taken off waivers and gone on to have extremely successful careers. You can't write off a player because of 3 bad years. Look at Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier, Bertuzzi and even Naslund. Some players just don't respond in certain environments, some have lingering injuries or confidence problems. I'm not saying he's a 'sure thing' but a guy with his size and talent shouldn't just be ignored because of 3 poor but injury plagued years. Put him in a new setting and give him some confidence and see if you can turn the guy around. Maybe we pick him up and he finds some sort of magical chemistry with Fedor Fedorov and turns out to be a steal, or perhaps he just fades into obscurity. What does it really cost us to take that chance?

bertuzzi's stat with the NYI doesnt look good either, same goes for some of the players already mention, like thorton, lecavalier and naslund. these guys are drafted so high because of their skill, and players dont just lose it all of a sudden. all they lose is confidence. so if they can ever regain their confidence most of the time they'll become successful, like naslund did, and bertuzzi did, and morrison did, and so on...

If the Nucks picked him up, they'd have to put someone else on waivers no? Personally, I'd like them to pick him up. I don't know if you can call a guy that young in his carreer a reclamation project... but big guys with soft hands dumped my coaches like Keenan are likely worth a good look.

Even if they guy turns out to be a bust... what do you really have to lose? I know very little about the guy... just heard his name once and a while... supposed to have had lot's of potential... in Keenans dog house... some guys around here seemed to be high on him last season as a possible fit with the SEdins.

The only reason I don't see for picking him up... King has worked pretty bloody hard and has impressed and seems to be a good fit. Does that get hucked and another guy just get the chance? Mind you, it does happen all the time in sports. Guess that's why they pay GM's the $ they do.
