hmmmm...good move to get him back i guess, basically allowed for the Sens to leave him unprotected and not end up losing him. This is probably why Wash took him in the first place.

Actually what happened was this:

George McPhee: Hey, I got yet another Senators player for you, this time in the waiver draft.

Bruce Cassidy: Great, we could really use another D.

George McPhee: Well even though TSN listed him as D on their waiver draft report, it turns out he's a forward.

Bruce Cassidy: Oh well, every little bit helps.

George McPhee: Hamel should be here for tomorrow's game.

Bruce Cassidy: Hamel, wtf, he never played for me in Grand Rapids.

George McPhee: But he was in the Senators system.

Bruce Cassidy: You idiot savant, he was in Buffalo last year.

George McPhee: Oh, that's why the name looked sort of familiar.

Bruce Cassidy: Man, why don't I have Dudley as my GM, it's just not fair.

George McPhee: Look, I'm sorry, I'll get rid of him as soon as I can.

Are we allowed to trade for a player that we lost on waivers. Isn't there a rule against that screwed Calgary when they got McAmmond back on the deadline last season. In that case, it was re-acquiring a guy off waivers that they traded earlier in the season, so maybe it has to be in that order.

 I'm dying.

But really, why do either of these guys have jobs right now.

Yes you are and thats not what happened with Calgary last year. They traded him before the draft so they could protect another player. The rule states any deal between a certain date (around the waiver draft) the player cannot be traded back to the original team for 1 year

Thanks, that makes more sense.

Basically, it boils down to a trade of Glen Metropolit for future considerations, which is a good deal for the Caps.
