Wings lost 4-2.

Yzerman, Shanahan, Hasek, Hull, Lidstrom, Whitney and Schneider didn't play.

-Hatcher does look slow out there
-Robinson is fast but he falls down all the time
-Hudler looks good on the power play. Nice awareness and puck handling ability. Had a nice chance to score in the first period.
-Fischer looks very fast and mobile. Didn't show any ill effects from knee surgery
-Bootland lost the fight vs. Tucker. Domi challenged him later on and declined. Both could be seen talking to each from their benches.
-Wilm and Roberts didn't fight, it was more of a hugging match.
-Nice tip in goal by Holmstrom on the PP. Hope he stays in Detroit.

I had no friggen idea Hatcher was so damn slow. On the PK early in the 2nd period I believe Hatcher was going down the boards and he was as fast as my 6 year old cousin!

Fischer is looking great, could have a big year.

Hudler looked great. Hudler is great with the puck. From what I saw, for a man his size he doesnt get pushed around very easily.

You saw the game too? I had decent seats in the Green section.

Hatcher is SLOW. Still dangerous down low though. Which reminds me, the Wings were pretty weak down low. For a team that wants to be a more defensive, that's not good.

Fischer looks good to me. Very mobile and rushed the puck up a few times beating the first forechecker.

Hudler looked pretty good out there. Wasn't afraid of traffic, could move around efficiently and dish the puck pretty well. Reminds me of Larionov.

.

How bad did he lose the fight with Tucker? I have read differing views, what do you think happened?

He didn't get killed or anything but he lost.

Bootland threw the first few punches but then Tucker had him partially turned around. When that happened Tucker threw punches while Bootland didn't throw any after that. Not sure how many punches actually landed though.

Hatcher has always been relatively slow. He can move fast when he wants to, but usually doesn't unless he's trying to pinch on the PP or get to the front of his net to move somebody who could get the puck.

Look at it this way - Larry Murphy from his first to third full seasons with detroit scored 52, 52 and 40. Not too shabby for somebody that's easily the slowest defenseman to ever play the game.
Though not the same type of players by any means they both relied heavily on their solid defensive positioning.
Hatcher wasn't a +37 last season if you're bad defensively.

And think back fellow wings' fans; How many times in the late 90's have we dreaded playing against Hatcher's Stars? I know I have. He's feared as one of the hardest checkers and dirtiest defensemen in the league. Just about every forward in the league outside of the elite power forwards and the occasional goon won't be crashing our net and running our goalies this season which is another plus. And as long as he can get the puck out of the zone, I don't care how he does it, I will be happy.

Now if only Holland could get rid of Wooley AND Dandeneault and just sign Dimitri Yushkevich I'd be a dapper chap knowing that we have a REAL physical defence outside of just 2 of our top 6...

I'm not trying to start anything here, but you make it sound much better than it was. Maybe Tucker didn't knock him out, but he did pretty much hand Bootland his lunch.

No problem.

Bootland lost. Nothing more to say really.
