Speculation

Recent reports around Washington indicate that McPhee is in the market for a 5/6 defenseman:

"McPhee is continuing to explore trade options as well, hoping to package some of his depth players for a serviceable defenseman, which would address a need and negate the chance of losing young players on waivers with no compensation."

Anaheim was one of the first teams that came to mind in terms of being able to move a dman for a forward package.

Would some combination of Peat, Pettinger and picks be enough to land either Vishnevski (ideally), Sauer or Ward?

With Carney going down with an injury just prior to the waiver draft, I had the crazy idea that McPhee agreed not to take Simpson if Murray would send over a cheaper ($$$) dman at a slight premium. I'm reading way too much into it but I'm bored waiting for the season to start.

Someone's got to go when Carney gets back. There are very high hopes in the organization that Sauer is the heir apparent to Carney, so he's safe for a while.

With Vishnevsky...the package you mentioned doesn't really feel right, but how much can you really expect for an underachiever? I think they'd be looking for a guy with the ability to be a lock on a roster, a solid vet or younger guy with a lot of potential.

I think id prefer to trade sauer over Vish... Sauer may just be like Trnka or Trebil and have one solid season and then suck it up...

Sauer isnt very nasty or offensive, and is purely a positional player. I think Vish has alot more value still, im not gonna make him this years Trnka...

Which season was that? Not last year.

His rookie year was a really solid year
He was alright in the playoff run too though (granted all the Ducks played exceptional in the playoff run...)
