From the main page of the Owen Sound site (http://www.attackhockey.com/index.cfm?page=0)

"Former Owen Sound Plater Captain Dan Snyder has succumbed to the injuries he received last Monday night in a car crash in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dan passed away early this evening.

Our condolences to the Snyder family and friends. Our prayers are with you."

Mine are with you too.

Until then, one can only hope that the link above is false and that Dan is alright for another day.

im going to make a prediction. It may be a terrible prediction. But im going to say it.

I dont ever see Danny Heatly ever being an effective Hockey player again.

If he was, owe 4 or 5 years older, I could see him being able to play through it. But for the very same reason people say he was speeding for. May be the very same reason he may never play effective hockey again.

Heatley, on the other hand, was a star in the making. Now that Dan Snyder has passed, the next best wishes have to goto him. Crime or not, i think everybody is hoping he can put this all behind him, and play hockey again.

He put 2 lives on the line. And He just payed the ultimate price for it, lets just hope he can save the other.

I too would like to send out my thoughts and prayers to Snyder's family. And for those who dont want to hear anything about Heatley in this thread....It has to happen....Heatley was essentiallly responsible for this, and now he somehow has to live with this.....for me, I seriously dont see heatley ever playing hockey again, because of what has to be going through his mind and the fact that he's undoubtedly gonna face some kind of manslaughter charges.

Man, this is horrible. It had started sounding a little bit more positive the last few days and then this happens. I'm kind of pissed at ESPN and some of the other news companies. They hardly ever had an update on Snyder, but had 2 or 3 articles on Heatley every day. All they wrote about is Heatley because he is a star, but Snyder got the worst of the accident and he was pretty much spoken about last in every article.
Anyways,

Terrible news.

Admittedly, I did not know anything about Snyder before this incident, however, from comments read about him on the Atlanta board, his story was quite fascinating. His path to the NHL did not seem to be easy, and he seemed to get to his goal based on determination. His charity work, and impact he had on the community seemed tremendous, and I'm certain that his impact will stay with the kids that he helped in these charites for years to come. All and all, he seemed to be a remarkable young man, and his death truly is a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers do go out to his family.

A few minutes ago I refreshed my browser to see what's up on the boards. It blew me away when I saw the topic. I would have thought that this would never happen. Now I don't know if I can sleep well for the rest of the night. A few days ago I called the Chicago Wolves regarding some admission vouchers, and just before I got off the phone I asked where can I send a get well card for Dan (Knowing that he used to play for them). Now I'm glad I didn't send off that card right away knowing that if his family would receive the card by now that could possibly devastate them even more. Now I don't know if I should send a sympathy card or not. This goes to show that no one should ever take their life for granted. One day you could be fine, then the next day something bad could happen to you, and then you're gone. I really hope the best of luck and survival for his family and relatives.

To the family, friends and fans of Daniel Snyder, my deepest condolences go out to all of you. It is never easy to get over the lost of a loved one. I've lost two close friends this past summer in high-speed automobile accidents. It's the worst feeling in the world. I really loved and admired Snyder's style of play. After witnessing him manhandle Eric Lindros two years ago, I kept a close eye on this kid and hoped he would be able to make it big. It's a sad day for hockey and I don't think things will ever be the same in Atlanta. It's a shame..so much to look forward to and now things will change dearly.

To Dany Heatley, my condolences go out to you and your family as well. Life is simply too short to take for granted. Although you had no intent of fatally injuring your friend and teammate, he was your responsibility and you will have to pay the consequences unfortunately. We're all pulling for you in the hockey world. You are a great young man and an idol to many. Do your time, try and get your head straight and then come back and continue your career when it's time. Get well soon, bud.

wow...this has been a terrible off-season for hockey... Just goes to show how precious life is. On top of it all, a budding superstar at the ripe age of 22 now has to live with the fact that his poor judgement led to the death of a teammate and friend. Injuries and/or jailtime, not to mention the huge burden he will carry, might take Heatley away from the NHL and destroy his life as well. At least he is still alive though. Sad, sad story. It's gutting... One of the things that I love so much about hockey, it's the only sport I care about, is the character, the tenacity and the struggle of not only the games, but the process of even getting to the NHL. The sacrifice and the absolute heart and determination, to get through all of the junior and minor league stages from such a young age, to finally get to the NHL, and the humility and character that so many of those who make it through that gauntlet retain when they get there. Dan Snyder seemed like such a glowing example of this, and Heatley to, but Snyder didn't have the natural ability that Heatley had on his side and had to grind his teeth a lot longer to get there and from all accounts was gracious to all of those along the way on and off the ice.

This transcends hockey in so many ways, Snyder embodied the power of the will, the reward of beating every adversity into submission and never faltering in your vision of what you are capable of. That's a legacy for his family and friends to be damn proud of, that's a life to feel privileged to have been close to. Something I'm sure they all realize more clearly than I could ever articulate it.

I wish those close to Dan all his strength through the brutal months they have ahead of them.

Dan Snyder seemed like such a glowing example of this, and Heatley to, but Snyder didn't have the natural ability that Heatley had on his side and had to grind his teeth a lot longer to get there and from all accounts was gracious to all of those along the way on and off the ice.

for words right now, as i woke up and my mom just told me the news. This is just flatout sad. It brought back memories of last year when i had a friend cut down in his prime. I pray for Snyder and his family. He had his whole life ahead of him. It's had knowing that he is my around my age. This is just a sad tragedy. And it just leaves me like this :dunno:

I knew Dan from Highschool and know what type of person he was...it never really occured to me that he could pass away, he's overcame everything in his life...then I see this on the news Sunday night...I feel just horrible...
I feel as though I should go to the next Owen Sound Attack homegame as I'm sure they'll have a moment of silence...the funeral will likely be held in Elmira. (however menonites perform this)
For those who didn't know him would have in a couple of years and didn't truely know what they were missing when he was here...
The typical Canadian dream realized through hard work.
RIP Dan...

Life can be so unpredictable- my heart goes out to both families, especially the Snyders, who now must come to grips with burying their child.

I am also heartened by the class and support that has been seen on these boards. Sometimes it takes a tragedy like this one to make everyone stop with the petty bickering and inter-team rivalries for a time and honor someone whose time came too soon.

I salute my fellow hockey fans on this one- your actions do you great credit.

Sad, sad, tragic news. So many lives affected.
Rest in peace Dan Snyder. My condolences to all who knew him.

Maybe the legacy of this traic event will be that some of these young stars will realize that they too are vulnerable, and further that they do not need these crazy fast cars in the US. Were can you drive a Porsche or Ferrari here? Life is too fragile and fleeting to take such unnecessary chances.
God Bless you Dan, God help you Dany.

I was skipping from website to website very early this morning and saw a huge picture on him as I accidently went to CNNSI.com to here. I of course immediately felt a knot in my stomach as I thought why would that picture be so big on SI. To my worst nightmare I turned the page back and saw the news. Unbelievably sad. My thoughts go out to his family and friends and to Dany Heatley. This one seems to hit harder than all the rest even though I never followed Snyder's career. God Bless

Nothing is so ridiculous as when someone starts acting all weepy about the misfortune of someone you don't even know. Condolences to the Snyder family and friends? You think that they will ever see this? No, you posted this to try and impress us with what a caring and senstitive person your are. Posts like this is all about the poster's vanity and not about Snyder's death.
Dear Mariano Snyder's brother has been known to be on this website from time to time. Also many people could have known or meet him thru his OHL days where the players are always active inside the community. No need to be an insensitive clod.

Heatley, on the other hand, was a star in the making. Now that Dan Snyder has passed, the next best wishes have to goto him. Crime or not, i think everybody is hoping he can put this all behind him, and play hockey again.

First of all, I would also like to pay my respects to his family and loved ones. It is just terrible and I extend to them my deepest sympathies.

Now, I for one don't really wish Heatley the best. I loved him as a hockey player say 2 weeks ago. Now I think he's a horrible man. Accident or not, it was reckless what he did with a passenger in the car. You want to take risks with your own life, good for you, have fun doing it. When you have someone sitting in that seat beside you, however, you better take more responsibility.

I hope he never plays hockey again. I hope he is in jail for a real long time. I hope he bends over for the soap.

No, it's not. It would be appreciated if people would use this thread:

for discussing Heatley's future if they feel so inclined.

This thread is for people's thoughts on Snyder. For those who think people expressing their condolences here is silly and/or insincere, no one's twisting your arm making you read this, show a little sensitivity please and just move on to the next thread.

Tragedy doesn't even begin to describe this terrible happening. R.I.P. Dan. You are gone all too soon. My prayers are with Dan Snyder's family, as well as with Dany Heatley. He will never mentally recover from this. We can only hope he will come to terms with the fact that he is responsible for the death of a friend and teammate. The guilt has to be unbareable. I wish him and the Snyder's the best throughout this ordeal. I hope that justice is served properly and that all of those involved can move on to the best of their abilities, though now with a large part of their lives missing.

I'm sorry to see Atlanta's season take such a blow before it even got a chance to start.
