Congratulations to Fleury. If I thought the Eagles absolutely needed him to win the Q championship this year i'd probably be a little more upset, but we have a great team and a great goalie so I'm really happy that Fleury is going to get the chance to shine in the NHL that he deserves.

He can still be re-assigned after 10 games though...

Oh I know, I'm just not expecting him to suck in these 9 games. He just exceeds all expectations in everything he does

Today is a wonderful day for the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise!!!!!!

Let's Go Pens!!!!

Per Craig Patrick, MA's contract is "exactly like DiPietro's."

Thank you god. Even if he doesn't stick this year. We have him signed. He is ours until he is 30 at the very least.

What worried me the most was losing him to UFA if he refused to sign for 2 years.

Same here.. I don't care so much if he plays in the NHL this year or not, I just wanted him under contract.

I wouldn't think that the new CBA would effect players who were drafted before the new CBA. But.. I could be wrong.

"This is a relief. It's more than we wanted (to pay) but I'm glad it's over with and we'll make the best of it," Patrick said.

ah well. i think its kinda hard to lowball the #1 pick. i dont think Fleury will reach all of his bonuses.

Thank you Craig Patrick.

I guess Caron's our back up for now and Aubin is trade bait once again.

Unless i'm wrong here and that Fleury is going back to his junior team.

The goaltenders will probably split time. Neither has been named the starter, and I don't expect that either one will before the season.

Big McLargehuge
10-06-2003, 03:44 PM
So when does Fleury get his first start?

October 10th at home against LA or October 11th in Philly?

FLEURY at HOME i hope

I can't see Caron starting back-to-back games, especially after playing only one pre-season game.

Awesome news, does anyone have the contract details?

all i've read is it can be up to 5M a year. im sure this year has a bonus for rookie of the year, and playoff bonuses two.

Big McLargehuge
10-06-2003, 06:34 PM
Aubin hasn't but he has to be...well we're one over the roster limit(or 2, I forget) and we're not gonna send someone else down.

There's 4 practices before our first game, if he needs 2 or 3 he'll get it.

i just made a post about that.

also, now there is something going on about his immigration status and they dont know when he will be able to get back to practice. hope its not too long.

http://www.post-gazette.com/penguins/20031007pens2.asp

In short, it's rookie max plus 400k per easily attained bonus trigger. In the first year, reaching two of them will trigger a massive 4M bonus. Next year, he needs three, and in the final year, four. Supposedly identical to what DiPietro signed.

And if he's getting bombarded in the NHL and he becomes frustrated what happens? You going to keep him there for the whole year? I'm not sure if there was or not but there should have been a two-way clause in the contract, just in case.

I hope he does well but if he struggles I hope Pitts will do the right thing and send him down.

you forget, cape breton was one of the worst junior teams in the QMJL last year. being bombarded by shots will be no different for him. plus, he has an excellent demeanor, which gets as much praise as his skills.

I wasn't implying that we keep him if he sucks ass, I'm implying why sign him and send him right back?
