Although we are all familiar with the players left, there are some interesting numbers listed for the players, notably...

71 - Konstantin Koltsov
44 - Brooks Orpik
06 - Nolan Baumgartner
22 - Matt Murley
12 - Ryan Malone

Also as seen on the Penguins site, Abid now wears #19 and Fata has #9.

These numbers will mean the webmaster for the Pens site will need to do some updating, as I recall Orpik supposedly being allocated the #3 jersey.

Does #71 hold any significance for Koltsov? Anyone know?

Why don't they let Orpik take a low number?

I thought Orpik was supposed to be 3?

Orpik never has been able to keep his numbers, 4 was taken, now 29 is taken...
Malone took Sivek's number...
Murley's number is no suprise, nor is Baumgartner's
Koltsov's though...interesting.

im pretty excited that orpik is wearing #44. I actually have him wearing 44 in nhl 2004...how eerie eh? I've been waiting for a solid player to wear it since Robbie Brown.

This is a 25-man roster. Still two more to be pared.

Orpik would look much better with #3.

I could be wrong, but didn't Sivek wear #47 when he was first called up? If so, that would probably explain Koltsov's number.

If your referring to Koltsov47's name i have no clue, because Sivek was called up way before Koltsov ever was so i don't know how Koltsov would have to change his number to 48...unless i missed something..fill me in plz if i have :)

Koltsov never wore 47.
He played 2 games for the Penguins last season wearing 48 in both and in preseason, same thing.
Sivek had 47. But as I see it, both 47 and 48 were temporarely numbers as was 43 to Surovy. Once they make the team, the choose their number. Koltsov's 71 looks nice as it makes him "ideal". Orpik's number makes him look good too as Pronger wears 44... It's nice, both of them. Yes Sivek lost his number but Sivek is more attached to 21 then 12, but since 21 is retired...

Fata looks good with 9. The "Ronaldo" look.
Can't wait to see them the 16th...

I don't care what number Orpik wears, just as long as he plays good.

I knew that Koltsov never wore 47... I couldn't remember his number when I was signing up (and yes, I'm lazy) so I just used Sivek's. Which works, because I really like him too.

I think I'll wait to switch my username to Koltsov71 until I have good pic with him wearing that number to put in my avatar.

I like #71.

Bradley and Orpik should switch numbers. 8 for 44. As I recall, Hans "Ow my Elbow" Jonsson was #8, but was never worthy of it. I say give it to Brooks and let him polish it with some real grit -- something Jonsson never had.

In general, it just looks like Edzo is letting them pick whatever available numbers they "like", instead of going with the usual "all D where single digit numbers or low two digits", etc.

Bradley, Buchburger and Fata all have defensive numbers....

while Bergevin, Orpik, Rozsival and Tarnstrom all have offensive numbers.

Since when is 9 a defensive number?

7 and 8 maybe but some of the best offensive players of all time (Richard, Howe, Francis(some of his career), and quite a few others).

32 most definitely is not an offensive number as well, it's usually goalie but occasionally is defenseman, almost never forwards.
