No, but the fewest goals against in pre-season mitigates against chickenlittleism. That list doesn't include Miller, who wasn't part of the pre-season and will be back shortly.
Come on people let's get through ten and see where we are. If we are 2-6-2, I'm panicking. Until then, we've got 4 of those guys who are guys from last year. Miller will make five. The other position is up for grabs, and Ziska is not that far off and neither is Grebeshkov. If none of those guys work out Berard or Nekar are still out there. Remember Roman is the backstop and may cover a multitude of errors.
Speculation is, of course, necessary, but let's just put up a question mark, a question mark just like the other 30 teams that start the season tommorrow.
Legionnaire 10-07-2003, 06:43 PM But we've got 7, count em, 7 defensemen.
Captain Ron 10-07-2003, 06:56 PM OK here is how I see the lines.
Robitaile.....Armstrong.....Klatt
Frolov.........Stumpel.......Palffy
Pirnes.........Belanger......Brown
Chartrand...Laperriere.....Avery
Norstrom.....Corvo
Modry......Gleason
Strbak....Visnovski
Cechmanek
Huet
Extras...
Sim
Holland
Brennan
Even though it is not as good as it could be at least there would be 1 vet on each Defensive pairing.

now, just imagine colorado coming in with forsberg, sakic, hejduk, kariya and selanne...going up against that group. or maybe detroit with shanahan, stevie y, hull, zet and datsuk...how about dallas' lineup....
i'm just trying to be realistic here guys...i hope i'm wrong. i hope roman can stand on his head in some of these games...but even though roman might be good, he can't stop them all and the need for depth on defense will eventually show.

1. Your third and fourth lines are sort of awry, with Belanger playing all training camp with Avery and Laperriere... so don't look for that to change.
2. Modry will most probably be paired with his defensive partner, Visnovsky. Gleason and Holland have been coupled for the better part of camp, so I expect them to be the third pair, with Strbak as the scratch.
3. When talking about "vet" -- remember that Strbak is actually older than Visnovsky.
4. The fourth line with be Pirnes, centering Brown and either Sim or Brennan, depending on toughness needed. Chartrand just has to wait for his turn, which HOPEFULLY (based on a successful Pirnes, followed by a return by Allison...) will not come up.

only person i dont like is holland. everyone else can do the job. Strbak is a bit shaky, but i think he will adjust and get better soon. if not, zizka and grebs are there to steal the job. in fact, i was pretty comfortable last year w/ zizka, so i thinkw ecan bring him up whenever we feel comfortable. when we get miller back, we'll be one of the better defensive teams again.
no, i'm not impressed, but i am satisified considering we lost our top defensemen to an injury. its not as bad as u guys make it out to be.
